RE: Those who don't believe in God or Jesus, why don't you?

Yes, I have health insurance. Or are you trying to say Christians don't? And you base this on what statistics?

None, right?

You might look into scientology for that type of rationality.

RE: Those who don't believe in God or Jesus, why don't you?

I didn't understand the analogy of the bag of hammers either, but found the dictionary definition of help:

hammer
noun
A hand tool consisting of a handle with a head of metal or other heavy rigid material that is attached at a right angle, used for striking or pounding.

A tool or device similar in function or action to this striking tool, as:

A part of an apparatus that strikes a gong or bell, as in a clock.

hammered, hammering, hammers
verb
To hit, especially repeatedly, with or as if with a hammer; pound.

To beat into a shape with or as if with a hammer: hammered out the dents in the fender; hammered out a contract acceptable to both sides.

To force upon by constant repetition.

To deal repeated blows with or as if with a hammer; pummel: "Wind hammered at us violently in gusts"

To keep at something continuously

Hmmm. It makes sense now. laugh

RE: Those who don't believe in God or Jesus, why don't you?

This same thing happened with my mother. She was in her early eighties and had stage 3-4 colon cancer. The doctors told her she would have to have chemotherapy after the surgery and she was very afraid of this. Well, it turns out the doctor changed his mind, the second doctor same situation, she did not have to have any chemo, the surgery was successful and the cancer has not returned for over five years. She is now in her late eighties and continues to bless us with her presence.

Yes, we prayed. Was it a coincidence, or an answer? There were other things that happened that were unusual as well, but I know others would disagree, cheers this holiday weekend!!!

RE: Is it ok for Men to Cry?

Your SCREEN name is hahahahahaha and your first post is about crying??? laugh

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

The Church requires that you be Catholic to receive the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion, or Christ's Body and Blood) because to receive the sacrament worthily, you must be in a state of grace and believe in the doctrine of transubstantiation, which generally non-Catholics do not share.

Catholics believe it is reasonable to require adherence to these guidelines for participation in the sacrament. They do not withhold it from non-Catholics for any prideful or prejudical reasons.

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

Actually I do remember a nun in my elementary Catholic school days that carried around a ruler for disiplinary purposes. She was always getting mad (I rarely saw her happy) and to be fair, she never whacked anyone (on the hand) with any real injury. I also knew a very kind, loving nun who never hit with a ruler and was a much better example of Catholic Christianity than the one who ruled with the ruler. laugh

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

Mary, mother of God (Jesus)...not part of the Trinity or Godhead, which is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

"It is the action of grace, not the inner nature of the experience — what, if anything, a character feels or comprehends — that we witness in O'Connor's fiction."

In "A Good Man Is Hard to Find", grace comes to a pride-stuffed grandmother in the person of an escaped killer known as the Misfit. After each member of the grandmother's family is systematically shot, the Misfit fires three bullets into the old woman's chest. A grim ending, needless to say — but in the story, O'Connor insisted, the reader “should be on the lookout for such things as the action of grace in the Grandmother's soul, and not for the dead bodies.”

This article also gives some insight into how her Catholic beliefs shaped her writing:

Some e-notes on her religious beliefs in regards to her story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find":

Plus good old Wikipedia has some info:

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

You have several errors here (for one, Mary is not part of the god-head, or Trinity. Catholics pray to Mary - you will call this worship - but they do not say she is God.

If the OP wants a scholarly paper, I think she should reference Catholic reference material rather than other's opinions of "what Catholics believe", as there is a lot of misinformation out there on this subject. You can disagree, but I think a Catholic encyclopedia or Catechism is a better factual source than someone's opinion.

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

Jesus' life, death and resurrection is central to belief in the Catholic faith. Catholics believe Jesus is the Son of God just as the Protestants do, but they don't believe we are saved by works or faith alone, because "faith without works is dead".

Don't take as Gospel some of the opinions on this forum. Lots of misinformation (which is easily passed around), so doublecheck any "facts".

RE: What are the Catholic's beliefs about salvation?

Official teaching from New Advent, the online Catholic Encyclopedia:

Salvation begins with the grace of God which touches a sinner's heart, and calls him to repentance. This grace cannot be merited; it proceeds solely from the love and mercy of God. Man may receive or reject this inspiration of God, he may turn to God or remain in sin. Grace does not constrain man's free will.

In other words, Catholics believe that salvation is not acquired, but is a gift from God, so no one can boast. Faith is also believed to be grace and a gift:

"For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God'. Ephesians 2:8

RE: Body Dysmorphic Disorder

Tell her how beautiful she is, and why. cheers

RE: IF YOU WERE 55 ..AND HAD A BUNCH OF PEOPLE 18 TO 21 WHO WANTED TO DATE YOU ... WOULD YOU DATE ONY O

This seems to be the theme of most of your posts since joining. The majority of young women are not attracted to much older men physically, and vice versa. It's just nature. So there would have to be other reasons for a pairing. Why the need for so much debate? Don't believe these girls words that they only want true love. They do want something, but they can't tell you or they won't get it. If you really find a young woman that for some reason wants a man who is a lot older for "true love", tell her you are financially struggling to put food on the table but believe that is not important, you can live on love, and her working wages. Step back and see what happens.

RE: Ever wonder who your guardian angel is?

It's my understanding that the angels list in the OP's post (Saint Michael, Raphael, etc.) are the Archangels, a higher dominion or rank of angels than the guardian angels. Traditional Christian teaching is that there are three main ranks or choirs of angels, with guardian angels assigned to the welfare of human beings being part of the lower choirs:

First
Seraphim
Cherubim
Thrones

Second
Dominions
Virtues
Powers

Third
Principalities
Archangels
Angels

This hierarchy can be found in the angelology of three different religious traditions:

Christian
Jewish
Islamic

I don't understand how a day of the week would have anything to do with our personal guardian angel, but that's jmo. I do believe in them. teddybear

RE: The Dreaded Morning After Email Of Rejection

They probably don't tell the truth because then men won't give them a chance. Doesn't make it right to lie, but you can see the motivation. I don't know if they think the guy will like them anyway on meeting them, but usually they are setting themselves up for hurt. I wonder how many who have done this have gone on to a successful relationship with the person they lied to? If I was a man and this was a problem I would make it clear that physical fitness was very important to me so they would know it would be useless to misrepresent themselves.

RE: The Dreaded Morning After Email Of Rejection

I knew she was too fat (in your eyes). So they were right to ask you if that was the reason!!! laugh Can't be honest about that can you...so just be kind.

One tip: people can lose weight, and they can gain it after marriage. If you really like her, give her a chance. Weight is changeable sometimes and most people continue to love someone after they gain weight...they just help them work on a health plan.

RE: What does faith mean to you?

The question isn't, "What IS faith," but "What does faith mean to you"?

I think the OP summed it up very well. Faith puts gas in the car to keep going when you want to stall. Faith means believing when you have no reason to believe. Faith means trusting that there is something bigger than we are giving meaning to the chaos we call life.

RE: What does faith mean to you?

So you're Clark Kent?

cool

RE: How do you feel about eHarmony ? Please Read !

I think the Founder/CEO of Eharmony is in his senior years. Have you ever seen him? That's probably why their policy is to match women with much older guys, lol.

RE: Mrs Robinson, you're teasing me

I think it's Mrs. Robinson! laugh

RE: WAYS TO TURN DOWN UNWANTED MEN !!!!

I agree; most of those "responses" were mean.

RE: Do women like men who are thick?

I believe the proper usage is "were" because it is plural. "Was" would be singular usage. I may be wrong, didn't look it up, lol!

RE: HEALTH CARE BILL PASSES!!!!

I am a self employed individual who makes a decent living in California. I could not get health insurance because of a pre-exisiting condition so had to go through the state's major medical program at a whopping $816.00 a month. I can see how someone could not afford this, it is an extreme burden on me financially.

I do feel people should give up cable, etc. to pay for their health insurance and not expect other people to be responsible for it. But for those with pre-existing conditions the monthly premiums can be too high. I can afford a few hundred a month, but when you are getting to $1,000.00 it starts breaking the bank. And no, I don't have cancer or any life threatening disease with high medical costs. I don't want the costs placed on taxpayers (I am one of them!) but the problem does need to be addressed and some solutions found.

Have you ever been accused of voting down a profile

Gotcha. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night! Probably watching a move I don't remember. cool

Have you ever been accused of voting down a profile

laugh I glanced at someone's profile because of something they posted on a blog. The next thing I know I got an angry, insulting email accusing me of giving them a low picture rating. I didn't rate or vote on anything, so I'm wondering where the heck they got that idea. I didn't deserve the assault, so I'm just curious if it ever happened to anyone else. People, please be careful before firing off mean emails. You might temporarily ruin someone's night, which was perfectly fine before they got mail, lol.
