I guess someone in 2005 figured that the 1988 carbon 14 dating was flawed because either the scientist used repair cloth (which repair did occur after a 1532 fire) or the cloth was contaminated due to how it's been handled. A 1995 DNA test says blood found on the cloth is male and human but nothing further.
I hear the explanation for the 13th or 14th century dating is because the cloth samples for study were unknowingly taken from repaired areas of the cloth of that period not from original cloth dating back to when it was actually used.
