Choose The Cover - Rollingstone magazine contest

@Kenn I love all kinds of rock music. I like the southern rock thing but it's not my favourite genre either as I like heavier rock music the most. I don't mind listening to it though. I can appreciate the talent. And it's better than listening to Britney Spears! roll eyes I guess the last southern sounding rock band that I really liked was the Black Crowes. I loved them at the time. cheers

That's OK, that's your opinion. And the 2nd vid I put up was the wrong one as I later found another version and forgot to switch it. The one I meant to put up is an acoustic version where his voice is a lot more Burton Cummings sounding. As soon as I heard their music I automatically thought he sounded like Burton. And after that when I googled them on the web it's mentioned in just about every article so I'm not the only one. And in that acoustic version you hear their harmonies even more and honestly I think it is quite good, even in their other vids. So I'm not really sure what you're listening to! laugh And the 3rd vid well, I think it was a last minute thing done in someone's basement so I don't really think it's their best version but still a decent rendition. I think they must be somewhat good if they are in the finals of this competition. But hey everyone has their own taste of what good music is.

These guys are already going national. And it isn't an easy task to make it in the music business. If they win in the contest we'll see if they blow up. There are alot of southern rock fans particularly in the US obviously.cheers

Yeah, I bet they are great live!

Your welcome Langleygirl! I hope they win also! I think they're pretty good.cheers

RE: crosby is god

the newest one for next year looks insane...more realistic...right now its too easy for me[/quote

So Paul Kariya retired. He's from here. He had to cause of the concussions. Sad cause he was such an exciting player before the concussions.

For the heck of it I thought I'd mention this contest. There were 16 bands competing, all of them American except the Canadian band The Sheep Dogs. Now there are 2 left and The Sheep Dogs are one of the two. Their music is Southern rock sounding, a throw back to the 70's. The lead singer eerily sounds like Burton Cummings and there is definitely a Guess Who influence. They are from Saskatoon. If they win they will become the first unsigned act to be on the cover of The Rollingstone. After that you can guess they'll get a record contract. I think they have a really good chance of winning. The winner will be announced on The Jimmy Fallon show Aug. 1st.

Go Canada! Happy Canada Day everyone! canada
Vote if you like! You have until Canada Day to vote!

RE: crosby is god

Yeah, maybe that's what I should do to feel the void!grin

2 years old?! OMG! Once he gets the hang of it I'm sure he'd kick my butt!laugh

RE: crosby is god

I think Draper will get picked up though. I didn't realize he was 40.

I think Tampa is crazy if they don't sign Stamkos. He's a markee player and he's so young. Depends on the bucks I guess.

Don't like Maltby? I liked him. And I don't even remember Hudler.

Great team you got there. You must have Stevie Y on there? Shanahan? (though he wasn't on there long). Love Marty B.

I've never played any of these hockey games. I should try it my sister has the newest NHL one on the Wii and the Gretzky one. My eldest niece loves it.

RE: crosby is god

Hands off Jovo!scold scold

I think if you let Ozzie go, you won't get him back. He's at the end of his career and hardly plays anymore.dunno

What about Draper? I'm surprised they haven't signed him yet. He's got probably one year left in him. I'd take him for a run to the Cup.

And Modano, he should retire I think. Sad to say cause he was a good player. But I know last season he had an injury.

RE: crosby is god

Would be cool to beat the Yankee record! Montreal isn't too bad a team actually. Maybe in a couple years they'll be a threat. I'd root for them any day over the Leafs. barf

We just signed Bieksa today for a 5 year deal! yay Pretty good since we almost traded him last season because of the salary cap but didn't end up having too cause Salo got injured. Big mistake if we had done that. Out of any of them I'd trade Salo, he's so injured prone. He's had something like 40 injuries so far!doh doh His last one was a torn achilles tendon while playing floor hockey in the off season. doh doh

RE: crosby is god

So the Smythe deal is done after all. Good for Edmonton to end up keeping Brule.

I will miss Detroit in the West actualy. I like watching them. We will play them less now which my niece isn't too happy about. Guess it's kinda better for us they're movin. And yeah, that would be great if we played them for the Cup. You guys need some young blood though. It will be a long time before you break Montreal's record lol! I can't wait to see the Jets play! So cool!

RE: crosby is god

Well Ryan Smythe going back to Edmonton is very cool. Poor guy never wanted to leave that place. And Brule is great for LA. He played on our junior team here and him and Lucic were the stars. They won the Memorial Cup here which is a big deal as it's the equivalent of the Stanley Cup for juniors.

You may have heard the story about Brule a few weeks ago. He lives in Vancouver and him and his girlfriend were in this nice area of West Vancouver and drove past this hitch hiker then realized it was Bono from U2! So they drove back and picked him up. Still don't know why he didn't have a ride! Anyway, he needed to meet The Edge so they gave him a lift. They love Van. They had a concert that night so because they gave him a ride he gave them tickets to the show in Edmonton. Brule gave up his tickets to game 1 or 2 against Boston. But how often do you get to hang out with Bono? He apparently told the story to the crowd and said "I like hockey players cause they pick up hitch hikers!" I know you're probably not a U2 fan but it's kinda funny cause what are the odds a professional hockey player gives a ride to one of the most famous musicians in the world? lol! laugh

RE: crosby is god

Yes!!!! Should be in French!!!! roll eyes That's like saying Patrick Roy, not Patrick Wah!doh

Hockey draft tomorrow. We pick 29th. I don't expect anything too big to happen. Detroit is 24th I believe.

RE: crosby is god

Ooops...that link above is from 2010! doh

Anyway, Canucks did really well. Kind of surprised Coach V didn't get coach of the year and D. Sedin didn't win the Hart trophy but you can't win them all! Great to see Martin St. Louis win the Lady Byng.

Ugh! I don't like how they're doing this show now. It's the 2nd year in Las Vegas. No Ron Mclean as host and no Don Cherry? And stars who don't even care about hockey, like Donny Osmond?doh So he does a show in Las Vegas, that's a reason to present an award? And the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Hills, roll eyes who can't even pronounce Martin St. Louis' name with French accent!doh roll eyes

RE: crosby is god

Amazing how some gems have been found drafting so late.

NHL awards are on tonight! It's in Las Vegas. It's getting a little too Hollywood though! Better kept in Canada! Do they bother to televise it where you are?

RE: crosby is god

Yes, 12 grand for a ticket!

Rebel, you're being a rebel! lol! No we don't want stores looted even if they're corporate. Most we're chain stores though. But downtown looks like a war zone. Severe damage. One department store had all it's windows broken all the way around. What's nice though is people got together posting uplifting messages on them and basically took the city back from the thugs. It wasn't true Canuck fans that rioted. These hooligans came prepared with gas masks, gasoline, etc. The same people who caused a small riot at the Olympics only it didn't get out of hand as we had tons of security and police on. My landlord said some were from Toronto, Montreal and the US. The same people who protest the G8/G20 Summits. Then of course we had others that joined in cause they thought it was cool. While I was at the big screen it was the first time I saw a couple cars parked nearby and I thought they would be good to use during a riot. roll eyes They started over turning them before the game ended. A riot was on my mind so I don't know how the city wasn't prepared. They thought everything was going so well the other nights I don't think they thought anything was going to happen. They really screwed up. But it definitely was on my mind as we were losing and people probably wanted to top the '94 riot. We probably would have rioted even if we won. Some guys have turned themselves in and others have done it for them with so much pics and vids. Some people have lost their jobs, got kicked off sports teams, lost sponsorships etc. Some families had to go into hiding.

Anyway, with the Canucks they released their injuries. They had 10 injuries with 3 key guys out. Boston wore us down. Good news is we are keeping the core together and some are willing to take a pay cut. So I hope we are consistently good like Detroit and win a Cup soon. We'll make another run next year. peace

RE: crosby is god

Wow you like Jagr eh? Well I hope he goes to Detroit then.

Yeah, kinda sucks what happened. I was caught in the middle of it but made it out OK. There are a few hooligans here that are 'professional protesters' and will riot when they can. They caused a small riot at the Olympics. And did last night and the rest of the crowd followed. The first car over turned happened with only 2-3 min. left int he game and was right by me. Then they were spraying fire extinguishers and bottles and cans were flying through the air. It was nasty. Anyway, 30 cars burned, 50 businesses looted, 12 officers injured, hundreds of the public. It looks like a war zone and our city is tarnished again. Took a long time to get over the '94 riot. I don't think the police here thought it was going to happen as every night was going so well but hey it's game 7 win or lose they should have been more prepared cause there are people that wanted to repeat the riot of '94.

Anyway, guess Canucks weren't meant to win. They weren't skating and had no gas in the tank. I expected them to come out hitting and they didn't. I think they were mentally exhausted maybe from maybe trying to be #1 all season. I dunno? Not saying Boston wasn't but they obviously had something left. Guess the better team won as much as I hate to say it as I think Boston is dirty team. The last 2 pregame skates Boston players were shooting pucks on Luo and taunting him! roll eyes Our scoring and special teams dried up too and Luo was sub-par which is very surprising.

So the average price for game 7 was $3,000. The prices people were paying were between $1,600-12,000. Crazy!

RE: crosby is god

Thanks Rebel.

"It's a great day for hockey!" It's beautiful and sunny here!!!!
4 hours til the big dance!!!

TTYL!

RE: crosby is god

That's cool. Great game for him to see. I just got back from the liquor store. !!drinking heh heh.....I'll need it no matter the outcome!!!! I hope they leave nothing on the ice tonight!!!! I hope they blow the roof off!!!

Gotta go!!! yay yay yay

RE: crosby is god

Yeah, the pens killed us. There's just something about that building. Most of the time game 7's in the final they put the whistle away and let the players decide it so I hope it's the case.

I heard Hhorton is with the team for support. I really hope the Canucks just do it for Raymond. Poor guy. He's still in Boston and it's a serious injury. The doctors think he'll be lucky to play in Nov. He has a hard time a head of him. I'm worried losing so many players to injury. We are running thin and just need to make it over the finish line! Raymond made some key defensive plays in a couple games and he's a super fast skater. Looks like Jeff Tambellini will be filling in. He's Steve Tambellini's son who's the GM for Edmonton and was a player for Canucks and was in upper management. So Jeff Tambellini grew up here so hope the home town kid has a great game! He's a fast skater too!

Ugh!!! Sorry about your injury! Ouch! That sucks! Especially for it to affect your play.

Well I hope we do it.... I really can't go through '94 again. roll eyes I'm heading to the big screen again with the masses! It really is something to see!

Jeff Tambellini

RE: crosby is god

The Fleet Center is a jinx, atleast for Lou! I don't get it. He was great all season. We should have all those goals. roll eyes WTH? Is this the plan or destinny to win on home ice!! I'm gonna have a heart attack soon! Atleast we scored on Thomas. If we press more we will do OK. Kesler was amazing. Playing his guts out! I hope Mason Raymond is OK. Apparently he couldn't stand on either leg and went to the hospital. We are really losing guys to injuries now. .blues

Yeah, baseball is OK but I find the games so long sometimes. Heh heh, our football team is called the Lions too. Poor guys are getting no press cause it's all about the Canucks right now.

RE: crosby is god

very mad roll eyes

RE: crosby is god

That's cool! Have fun! I'll be standing in a mob of people watching it! GO CANUCKS GO!!!!cheers yay peace

RE: crosby is god

Wow! You're pretty good!! I predicted Spain for World Cup and that was a wild guess too!!

I was just watching the sports and the guy said the last 6 Stanley Cups have been won on the road!!! I like that stat!!!yay yay yay

RE: crosby is god

Who else did you pick? The Giants and The Mavericks? I guessed the Giants but it was a wild guess! lol! I'm shocked the Mavs won. I don't know much about basketball but don't they have 3 of the best players in the league? I thought for sure they'd take it. Oh, well nice for the underdog to win! Dirk Nowitzki is cheering on the Canucks. He sent a taped message to the media. He's good friends with Ehrhoff and I'm sure he's rooting cause of Steve Nash who's a die hard Canucks fan.

RE: crosby is god

The crowds have been pretty good. The police have taken a different approach with the crowds than they did in '94 when we rioted. :( They focus more on liquor poor outs and making sure the crowd is safe than arresting people. Things now are really easy going and not so tense. People want their pics taken with the police and high five them! So there's a better relationship with them but who knows what would happen. I would think we wouldn't riot if we won but knows. There always seems to be a police officer who's a jerk though like the other night. This rapper guy got arrested because he was busking after 7pm. roll eyes The crowd was trying to stop him from being arrested but to no avail. We are all partying down there with all sorts of musicians and it's a once in a lifetime thing. What a joke! It's cool cause as this guy raps people breakdance. I hope he's back down there tonight.

Anyway, we have to do it tonight!!!! I hope they're hungry for it and have the fighting spirit!!! But our all time record in Boston sucks! 8-40-8! But alot of those losses came when we were a new team and Boston was really good at the time. Yeah, it will suck when it's over but the summer goes by so fast. Atleast I can deal with it more if we have won!!!!

RE: crosby is god

uh oh blues very mad

RE: crosby is god

Rebel, TBH I wouldn't mind them losing one so we can have the win in Vancouver!!!!! It would be insane!!!!! But hey if it's a sweep, I'm OK with it. But honestly I expect them to win 1 or 2 games. I just don't want them to win 3, cause my nerves couldn't take it! doh doh doh

Yes, game three is the pivitol game!

The other night was crazy watching it on the big screen. We have 3 different locations down there (2 are being moved today a block or two down cause they need more room!) and one out in the suburbs. I got so squished from people. People went crazy when we scored but it was major bedlam when we won in OT!!! Then the city went crazy. Major intersections were taken over by the people as we partied in the streets. People playing their instruments, rapping and people dancing to them. Also guys playing street hockey. It was a great time. I took lots of pics and vids. I'm savouring every moment! Today I'm going to Rogers arena. $10 tickets sold out instantly and we're going to a kids charity but scalpers are scalping them even for $100. It was nice to see Manny Maholtra return. Unbelieveable he's playing again. It's a big boost to the guys to have him back not just on the ice. He was always around the team though.

Right now, I'm thinking of Linden, Naslund, Bertuzzi, Ohlund, Jovanaski. It must be so hard for them especially Linden but I know he would be happy for Van. I'm also thinking of the old Canuck guys from '94 especially and '82. Even Luc Bourdon who died in a motorcyle accident a few years ago. He was Burrows' roommate.

I hope they win today! Bring the Cup home to Canada baby!!!!

yay yay yay

RE: crosby is god

OMG!!!! It was bedlam downtown!!!! yay yay yay I'm not getting ahead of myself but...........2 more wins!!!!!!!!!grin

RE: Dr. Death dies at 83

Well I guess he did himself in going on 60 min. as before that no one had any concrete proof what he was doing. But I guess he risked it on TV cause he believed what he was doing was right, to end the suffering of others who chose it.
