Magic.
I had the Kids for the weekend. The pressures of Christmas were upon me.
Money, money, money Seemed to be Key as I walked about town.
The Tide of people and the frantic paddling of my two boys
seemed to wash me to the door of the toy store.
Inside we were greeted by a sparkling array of,
Video games, DVD's, Rc cars and Action figures,
Along with other distractions designed to trap the minds of the young visitors to these Aladdin's Caves.
The arrogance of Company logos and brand names hammered our brains.
My children entered a frenzy of look at this and did you see that.
I caught their sleeves, calming them saying we had to stay together.
They hopped about erratically pulling away excitedly barely listening,
It was at this point I BAH HUMBUGGED and asked myself
"Where is the spirit of Christmas ?".
Just then a familiar twinkle of light caught my sight,
as an oblivious shopper hit the bargain basket close by.
It was the reflection of a flashing Christmas tree light
on some old and cornerless boxes of marbles.
Immediately I was back at my 6th Christmas If I remember correct,
The same light reflecting of the same small glass treasures.
I lifted the box thinking they were candy.
Straight away I could tell by the weight these were no sweets.
And the sound they made shaking in the box put me on a train to the north pole.
So many colours, so Shiny and mysterious, I had not opened the clear box but already
I had spotted what was going to be my favoured one,
a blue and green one that resembled the earth.
When I opened the box and held it
I was amazed at how clear my solitary reflection was in its smooth surface.
when I awoke from my daydream, my two sons had obviously become curious
as to the nature of the items that had fixed my gaze, they were standing at the basket.
A box of marbles each, quietly contemplating the contents.
As I smallened myself to level to their ears asking If they would like some.
I seen each box contained a Giant 25mm Shooter, And In these Giants For a second I thought I caught sight of the reflection of three happy Children ?.
