Congress debates Indian tribe recognition

WASHINGTON (AP) — Several members of the Congressional Black Caucus are urging the Obama administration to withhold federal recognition of a Virginia Indian tribe because of its history of banning intermarriage with blacks.

In January, the Interior Department proposed recognizing the Pamunkey tribe in southeast Virginia, which would make members eligible for special benefits in education, housing and medical care — and allow the tribe to pursue a casino. A decision on recognition, which would be the first for a Virginia tribe, is due by March 30.

I was hoping our 'King' could explain the apparent split in his 'Hebrew' tribe, but I just saw a comment he wrote on another person's blog, and it says, 'profile deleted,' so I guess we will not hear from him about this.

Sounds like a soap opera........normally the money made from casinos not only benefits the tribe, but the community too wave
Well sure, but a tribe in another location is worried about their community, not the second tribes. :)
Hmmmm, I guess I just don't quite get why, but hopefully something good will happen wine those people have had to fight for hundreds of years for their rights
