Mafioso mustache...

Mustache also spelled moustache refers to facial hair under the nose. I've used some language translators that have fewer words (than English) to describe facial hair. Beard, long sideburns, mutton chops, goatee and mustache all get grouped together. The same thing happens to gnat and mosquito where other languages call any 'tiny flying bug' a mosquito, but this blog is about mustaches.

I started facial hair growth in the 1970's around the time guitarist Ted Nugent released his album Survival Of The Fittest where he hadn't shaved in a few weeks. I tried the look, but that got shaved off as it really wasn't my style. In the 80's, my wife asked me to grow a mustache and it had the vertical strips like Glen Frey of The Eagles. Trimming it back to a normal length, the mustache has always remained and I often think there will be a day when I shave it off completely.

Going through old photos I found one of an uncle who had what many Italians refer to as a Mafioso mustache. It's a trimmed growth probably 5-6 millimeters (1/4") in width along the upper lip.

Certainly, if I lose my mind (and trademark mustache) and decide to shave it off, I'll buy an electric razor and document the event with photos... there will be the phase of Mafioso 'pencil thin' mustache before it all comes off!

Who knows, I may decide to keep it that way...

DISCLAIMER for those who don't actually read my blog and assume the guy in the photo is me. It's a nameless person who's photo came up on a Google search of mustaches.

How would you sleep....if....

How would you sleep...how would you feel...how would you change your life....would you even change your life at all...

If, we discovered we are not at the top of the food chain? What if all this time we thought we had our government...our military....our police force around to protect us...when in reality, there is nothing they can do to protect you. How would that change your being?

It is said in the next few years, humankind can go one of two routes. One way is not so great for us...whereas the other way...we literally become woke. No...not like the woke we speak of today. I am speaking of a wokeness where if we ask who was responsible for J.F.K., that answer is freely provided. There is nothing hidden.

Like I mentioned, the first way is not so great...

But, the second way may not be so great either. It is said that ignorance is bliss....but with all the knowledge that could be provided to us, the reality of our lives may not be such an easy pill to swallow either.

Perhaps...we are not the top of the food chain.

New life in an old condo...

One of my neighbors has health issues and confined to a wheelchair. She has a long-time boyfriend who owns a condo on the other side of the development, but stays with her like husband and wife. They have the parking spot next to me and often I say hello and make small-talk. I learned she's been transferred to an extended care facility now.

The other neighbor told me she was only renting and that the landlord owns a few units in the development. Less than a week later, I saw some workers moving furniture out. Curious, I stood in the doorway and was invited in by the owners who were doing some minimal cleanup.

We talked about if they were going to rent again and they decided with the great value of property now, they preferred to sell the place 'as is' but, I thought their asking price was a little high. Days later, they were doing some renovation work. They told me they had a buyer, but the bank wouldn't secure the loan. I don't know if the buyer had a credit issue or the adjuster thought the asking price was too high.

It appears they are on Plan B and now doing some renovation. Their handyman constructed a soffit in the bathrooms and removed the old style lighting. Upgraded lighting in the kitchen was also done. New toilets, a mirrored wall was removed and probably glass shower doors were installed. Paint throughout and they are installing laminate flooring this week.

My guess is $15,000 of upgrades will bring them $30,000 more in the selling price and all it takes is a buyer with cash who doesn't want to go through the renovation process and they could move right in!

Mañana, mañana...

I'm in procrastination mode. Nothing new, but it's been building up to new levels. I wasted (yeah, wasted and not waited) until the last day of the sale to try a bass amplifier. All the store had was one floor model. I didn't want a floor model and I wanted 2 identical, so they (supposedly) sent 2 from warehouse. One was in the original manufactures box the other was (obviously) a floor model (missing the owners instruction manual) put in a used cardboard box and packed it in Home Depot bubble wrap.

Bubble wrap doesn't hold well on things weighing 40 pounds and the corner of the box crushed in transit, taking a chunk out of the corner of the speaker cabinet.
Two hours wasted with customer support and they are express delivering a replacement, but I have to returned the damaged amp at a UPS station.

I started charging batteries to fly model aircraft today and will finish this morning. I got to bed late and figure I'm at least 2 hours behind schedule. My original plan was to go to Miami, fly with some friends and after go to the salon for a haircut with the stylist I've used for a decade.

Mañana, mañana... I'll do that tomorrow.

mañana is Spanish for tomorrow. I use that word often.

The shoes on or off controversy...

I'm on both sides of the fence when it comes to shoes on or off in the house. It wasn't an issue growing up in the 50's and 60's, I remember tile floors and shoes were optional. In the 70's most of the house had carpet. Vacuumed weekly and shampooed a few times a year. I was known to wear flip-flops or running shoes.

In the 80's I developed toenail fungus and a few treatments of Lamisil (at $200 each) reduced the severity, but never eradicated the fungus. Hint: The podiatrist said it was contacted from the many years I went without shoes.
Somewhere in the 90's I started wearing (light-weight) construction boots as I was a project manager and often I had to be on jobsites. I'd wear them all day, in or out.

One day while in the waiting room to see my doctor, an advertisement for Jublia came on the TV. It's a prescription strength anti-fungal liquid. I told my doctor, got the prescription and it actually worked. So 20+ years of chasing a cure for fungus was gone! I'm more careful about going without shoes, especially in areas of wet grass.

A girlfriend asked why I wore shoes in the house and my answer was simple. "FIRE... everybody out... FIRE!

Most of the people I know leave their shoes at the front door and walk around barefoot.

As a worker in clients houses, many insist my people remove their shoes. I have to remind them it's against OSHA safety regulations. If they were to get injured without safety shoes on, insurance would not cover the claim. I've asked if they want to sign a waiver to accept the cost of medical in the event someone would get hurt and not be wearing proper shoes.
Disposable booties/shoe covers were provided by the company.

Prior to booties becoming readily available, I've gone into clients houses and removed my shoes because they insisted. One family who professed their cleanliness had a dog. When I was done with the minimal visit of measuring and discussing the design, my socks were dirty AND collected dog hairs. Foolishly, I put my shoes on and right after, the bacteria contaminated my shoes that required me to dispose of them.

Fast forward... I come up the stairs, into my apartment, wipe my shoes on the mat, head to my studio and put my bag with job folders on the side table. If I plan to be in for a while, I'll remove my shoes and get into leather slippers.

There's a shoe storage box on the wall by the door that doesn't get used. When I go to my daughter's house they have a pile of shoes at the door and usually family/friends go barefoot or change to slippers as the upstairs rooms are carpeted. I keep my shoes on. If it's an issue, I'll wear booties.

Yahoo ran a story about shoes in the house and the opinions/experiences varied wildly.
The fear factor of lead based paint, bacteria and E. coli was over hyped.

With THIS blog, I'm risking an injury

And maybe a friendship also....
but I done it years ago before, and because I'm deeply worried, I'll risk it again.

Since April of this year my friend, our friend Nam is in Ukraine, assisting in their war.
September 2nd is the last mail I received from him, unlike his last mail before it, he was over there with only 3wks to go, asked me to pray for him as he felt those last weeks were going to be his longest, and him being him, the NAM within the man had to throw a joke in of course, to lighten his mood and perhaps for me to worry less..... as if.

Not long ago I put out a request for a link, and thanks to a member, I received one handshake
but the thing is, unless I hear from Nam, I need to be searching every once in awhile and since I don't have the know how, could someone else from another end if possible, do the search for me???

Would really appreciate, if someone would.

A thought for Nam along with a prayer, he'll return home, safely.... teddybear

Goodbye...

Goodbye my friend. It's been great. We had some good times together. Those sunsets that seemed to last forever. I'll see you next year on the 10th of March. I wish you could be here all year round... but It's out of my hands. I wait for your return.

increase in funerals

I have been noticing a large increase in local funerals by me for the past 6 months or so. I never said anything but I have been paying attention.

Just last night, I overheard a member on my pool team talking to another guy about how people he knows are dying. He said, in the past week, he went to 3 of them.

I am curious. I remember after the vaccine was administered, there had been some reporting on excess deaths. I wonder if they are still monitoring that today?

dunno

Stay safe everyone.
