Your perceived idea of threat is noted...perhaps that is why Canadians do not have as much violence as the USA...we are not holed out in gated communities with weapon in hand...I did see bowling for columbine...Moore raised some good points in his documentary...
Although city dwellers do not need such fire power like a hunting rifle..I did grow up in a rural area and many people there enjoyed hunting...my brothers being hunters but also appreciated/respected wildlife...their rifles were not meant for killing humans or defending property or themselves...so the notion of protection from harm befuddled me...
Gun control is needed...whether you are mentally ill or have rage problems or illegally selling guns to minors and in turn breaking the law...we do need limits...as far as protection...more innocents are harmed...
Too bad the US people got duped regarding the healthcare debate...allowing big business to gouge the citizens is incredulous...universal healthcare is a good idea and much cheaper...I would never go bankrupt due to an illness...nor would I have to sell my house...
But the 1 %ers have won and enjoy the never ending increases in medical care...profit before people...capitalism at its finest...
Although there are pharmaceutical sales people...and GPs do get free samples here in Canada...but most doctors do not like to treat problems with medications if you can change your health by exercise and diet but that takes patient participation...
Heart problems like arrhythmias should be treated with medications due to the seriousness of the medical condition as an example but if you can drop weight and eat healthier including exercise...a common problem like hypertension can disappear not to mention saving yourself from kidney problems...
Socialized healthcare demands that medications cannot gouge the public...so it is a bargaining chip to big pharma...the government has more control not for profit healthcare models...jmo...
