RE: Economic Sanctions Or Wars Are Not The Answer, It make People Suffering Hunger,Mental Illnesses and

At first glance it sounds nice but once any peace is attained, they'll soon complain of overcrowding due to population growth, especially in "small" countries. I seriously doubt that most people in "large" countries would even care except for those who profit by wars and the killing of people, especially in the millions. Perhaps those countries need and should be bombed back into the proverbial "stone age" for them to finally stop supporting their governments that need wars to profit by.
Would the lack of those people from countries like that really be a loss to the rest of the world...I seriously doubt that, the only good warmongering country is a dead one.wine

RE: navy seals vs s.a.s.

Is it surprising that more countries have modelled their own elite spec op units after the SAS...
It certainly is no surprise that all the white British Commonwealth countries , including Rhodesia had/ have their own versions with virtually the same methods of organizations, with some modifications as by both Rhodesia and South Africa during their guerrilla wars.
Several African countries have followed the French model that the regular Paras of the British would find similar while the Foreign Legion has combined methods from most other elite units for ultra rapid deployment and attack.
Ive watched a couple of NATO exercises which pit the French Foreign Legion with the US Marines; another time with the SAS....After 3 days the US Marines asked to be withdrawn from the games.... The completion with the SAS ended in a mutual admiration party back in Corsica, the Legion's main base attended by the top NATO military people.
I recall a conversation I had with 2 Generals in 1978; one Rhodesian and one British. The topic of the probability of British troop deployment into the Rhodesian war came up and it came out that the British commanders of both the Paras and SAS strongly advised against it because of the high casualty rates they would suffer from the Rhodesian military, namely by their elite Selous Scouts, their SAS, the RLI and the RAR. The British govt. actually listened and a number of lives were saved. The British General also admitted another factor that sent a chill through them, manly the strong possibility of mutiny by many and in sympathy with Rhodesian relatives and their cause in general. I found it interesting that many Rhodesians had actually hoped for a direct confrontation with the British military despite having so many with family ties..."kith 'n' kin" with the Brits.
Strange that the South African military looked forward to possible Russian Spetnaz intervention in /over Angola, but they backed off also. One reason I had heard was that their troops would have been unable to acclimatize to fight an African war....ah well.... wine

RE: Only for above 35 yrs - or if you luv old movies / tv-series !!!

Several easily but the most favourite is still the original Peter Gunn series from 1958 with Craig Stevens; it introduced me to the world of visual Jazz. I'm still fascinated with painting/ drawing Jazz sessions. 2 others are Babylon 5 and the current Elementary.

RE: Best Star Trek Captains

The two worst were Laneway and Cisco, despite the valiant efforts of Star Trek Inc. in putting out a DVD set called The Captains, each episode showing different categories of 'what makes a good Captain....all different even in similar situations. Well with watching as with the extras and interviews.wine

RE: which came first the Americans or the Indians....?

RE: Favourite kind of sausage !

I love sausages and have tried them everywhere I've traveled and have liked or loved their own local versions except in one country. I could care less about what meats were used; beef, pork, caribou, iguana etc. except in Columbia; they use rats, especially in open eating areas of many towns. You can even find fried rats hanging on clotheslines much like those fried or roasted ducks one sees in a Chinese take-out restaurant. While one can salivate at the ducks, idiot tourists are usually vomiting their rat 'hot dog' around public squares throughout Columbia..barf laugh

RE: world

Most humans are just too stupid to appreciate all our differences; all that distinguish us as unique be it our Races, our ethnicities; our languages ; our respective countries and cultures down to our individual talents in the many facets of the arts. The more I have seen and experienced of the world, the more I think that we all should cherish our many heritages. If only one were to suddenly disappear , this planet would be poorer indeed. Thank our stars for our many differences; I'd hate to live in a world where everyone is exactly the same. That would bore many to death.wine

If any 'lessons are learned, they won't likely ever come to mind as those circumstances usually never repeat themselves to apply any of those so called lessons and no two women are ever alike except superficially.

RE: When was the last time you went to the cinema?

Last weekend with my son to see the new version of The Mummy with Tom Cruise and the usual un original 'special effects'laugh
We ate before going...it's cheaper to eat in a nice restaurant and much better than a 'choke 'n' Puke fast garbage diner...and a whole lot cheaper than any theatre foods or drinks. At least the water is still free, for now.
The seats were new arm char types that belong in a large living room and recline...drop in a quarter and perhaps it'll vibratelaugh
The movie was a lot better than any juvenile Branden Fraser version. Story was a bit unusual in that the mummy was a female who had never become a mommy...lots of anger issueslaugh Sound was so loud, much dialogue was lost....really loud; if shown in a drive-in you'd have complaints from people in their homes 2 miles away....
Small popcorn is $6.00 and no small cokes, just large at $5.00 Many had their own snacks.laugh

RE: Tolerance and Intolerance...

Given the state of affairs in the trump's America, it is virtually politically correct to be intolerant os races, religions, orientation and those that are tolerant of dissent. Perhaps people who oppose any type of politically correct altitudes by the new disgusting, deploy table and the intellectually depraved will soon turn to becoming incorrect by becoming more tolerant....laugh

RE: Terrorism; did you ever or do you ever

It's almost the same in South America; lots of countries within fairly easy travel: Equador to either Columbia or Peru; Peru to Bolivia and/ or Paraguay, and depending where in Argentina you live, it's easy to visit Uruguay and its beautiful beaches and casinos ; or visit Paraguay or Brazil with no more a a couple of hours flight or even by train, same as in Europe minus any terrorists of course; or rather, any active ones...laugh
Like you, I'd love to get back to Egypt, Iraq, Syria purely for all the ancient ruins before they are all destroyed by the psycho fanatics and looters; hell, I'd love to return to Argentina to a town at the foot of the Andes that I've always called 'Buenosnotches' as the scenery is so like Switzerland...I miss that place and other cities there also Mendoza in the wine country; Cordoba; Tuchman and Bahia Blanca... I miss that country; should have bought land there in the mid 70's or even Paraguay for about ten US dollars an acre...doh Too young; too soon...wine

RE: Terrorism; did you ever or do you ever

Dear LaPiu, you need to go attend classes at a war college or classes on War; Strategies and Tactics at the very least to fully understand how wars operate; what is effective and why or ineffective and why.; what purpose do the Geneva accords have; who did not sign them and why and the ramifications of refusal to sign all the accords by a major world power.
Once you can say that you have studied these, you would have gained a better understanding and comprehension of what you may condemn at first impressions without any basic understanding at all of the basic tactics and strategies used to fight both a defensive or offensive war in modern times. This Is (sadly) not the 18th or 19th century. Nations will not as they cannot fight any war to actually win. Those days are long gone. There hasn't been any glory in any wars since the the last 'world war' and any sense of honour has become the objects of ridicule and laughter just as the term 'border' or even 'nation'. Today, it is wars of all against all and nothing or anyone is can escape its brutality no matter how repulsive, repellent or disgusting you, or anyone may find it on a personal basis, or as the Yanks are so fond of saying,"nothing personal, it's just business..." and the business is war in its totality and everyone has become a part of it. No one is excluded; no innocents; everyone is 'fair-game'. Once you fully realize this concept as a truth the sooner you and others can find ways to lessen the impact on yourselves and those whom you love. The very idea of 'winning' any war is laughable; rather quaint for those currently 'exempt' from actually fighting one and yet we are all targets or will be at some point... sigh

RE: Special Gun Rights for Muslims

I'm still waiting, since the late 70s, for the ultimate gun ad from the NRA:
" Killing is Patriotic; The NRA is a patriotic group that not only advocate the rights of people to own guns but who believe that gun ownership should be mandatory for all above the age of 12.
We support the rights of people with guns to kill other people. Killing other humans is a human right. That is Life.
NRA: We support your gun rights to own any types of guns and weapons systems to defend yourselves against others . We will help you to kill others.
NRA: Americans love their guns and love to use them and if Gawd carried a gun, it would be an Amurican gun, a Colt.45 A-men! (Yeeha!)
rolling on the floor laughing
Seems that a lot of Canadians wish to be just like the kill crazy Americans, one wonders as to why they don't move there and start rooting' an' tooting' an' shooting' instead of trying to spread their noxious virus to become just like americans...no one is or would even try to prevent them from leaving; why infect another country with a desire or love of killing others who are not like them...
