Under Achiever

At school my teachers thought I would never amount to anything. I haven’t seen any of them since I left so they probably don’t know how accurate their predictions were. None of my achievements in life have been more than minor. This has, from time to time, caused me anxiety and dissatisfaction, but not anymore. I’ve found that since I’ve been living on my own I no longer care about achievement, or lack of it. A bit more money would be nice, but it wouldn’t take much more to spare me the usual end of the month juggling.

This made me wonder how many of the ambitions we have are for the sake of other people.

It's a cultural thing, too.

Be smug that self-actualisation is more powerful than the majority vote.
It's taken me years to train myself to stop being smug about things, jac, then you come along and tell me that. sigh
You have every right to be smug about many thing, Harbal. hug
You may be an underachiever harbal, but you've at least done that well. comfort
If you lead them to expect nothing of you, everything you achieve beyond nothing is over-achieving.
jac, what a touching thing to say, and a hug as well; thank you. hug
The older I get, Biff, the less I seem to want. It feels a bit like being set free.
Hi, Crest. At least when you haven't got much, you haven't got much to lose.
In that case, molly, I think I'm well ahead of the game. wink
The only way is up wink
Being a good person and caring for more than one's self is, in my opinion, one of any man's greatest achievements!

Hats off to you Sir!
Harbal, wave

Great topic. Couldn't agree more. cheers
I try to be a good person, Liberal, except when I'm here on the blogs or forum, of course. I consider that my time off for good behaviour the rest of the time. cheers
Hi, Bogart, nice to see you. cheers
laugh Harry.

This is your bad-boy persona grin
laugh my tablet changed Harbal to Harry laugh

You should see some of the other things it changes things to wow
Luckily I usually check the posts before posting. uh oh
That makes a refreshing change, molly, most people's tablets change it to Hairball. sigh
Harborough is the usual name it changes to uh oh
That sounds like a town in Yorkshire grin
One question, Harry.. I mean Harbal. grin
Do you make plans?
Kal, do you use a tablet?
Mine changes any non-ordinary words into just about anything!
Very rarely, Kal. Making an appointment with the dentist for next week is my idea of long term planning.
No more excuses Molly. Unless you're an android.

How To Turn Off Autocorrect On An iPhone
Open the Settings app.
Tap General.
Tap Keyboard.
Tap the switch next to Auto-Correction.
You’ll know that Auto-Correction is off when the switch is gray.
That’s all it takes to turn off autocorrect on an iPhone! Next time you use your iPhone keyboard, you’ll see that your typos are no longer being autocorrected. At any time, you can turn autocorrect back on by going into Settings -> General -> Keyboard and tapping the switch next to Auto-Correction. You’ll know autocorrect is back on when the switch is green.
I used to, Molly, but not anymore since the simcard got expired. grin
On the one I am using now, no automatic changes take place. The phone only shows alternative words I might want to choose.
Miguel, if I were an android, I probably wouldn't make mistakes.

I don't want to turn off auto correct. It works fine for normal words. But usernames can often be made-up words so it doesn't know what to do with them, and can change them to anything if I don't keep an eye on it.bouquet
Kal, my phone is like that too, but this tablet has a life of its own laugh
@Harbal
Aahhh.. no wonder. nerd

@Miguel
You made me check my other phone. laugh

doh Molly that was supposed to be android user. BTW I don't see a smart gal like you needing spell checker very often. wine
Certain life is crazy, Baby.. in this crazy world. laugh
See how easy mistakes happen, Miguel? grin

No, I don't use spellchecker very often. But it's sometimes quicker to just press the pre-formed word than continue typing it.
H. Great insight and equanimity. Just this month got a huge dose of my own, and grateful.
Yep,H. And then we die. And then face the Karma accounts. Struggling to deal with mine before then. Blog topic, perhaps.
I'll watch out for that one, vier. thumbs up
I was always an overachiever....I had to learn to change what achievement meant to me and simplify it also to get out my perfectionism mode...although I can still go there at times....wave
Harbal inner peace is an achievement in itself. I had dyslexia and in my day we were classed as dumb. Me dumb scold never I thought so seem to be fighting what's called the norm all my life. Have give up now and have an inner peace, now that costs nuthingrin I always put into pot of life when I can, love the simplelaugh things in life, so guess I am luckyteddybear
Hi Harbal, was going to comment on your blog and had something to say then I forgot laugh

Maybe it will come back to me later.

Have a good one my friend cheers
I think aspiring to perfection is a good thing, M4, as long as we keep in mind that it is only to be aimed at rather than achieved.
They say the simple things in life are the best, EX.
Just keep coming back until you remember what you were going to say, wen, it's always good to see you. cheers
I don't think karma was in my mind when I wrote the blog, vier, but I've no objection to it being introduced.
Harbal, yes to forget don't know if it's the brain cancer or just getting older. laugh
