Masks actually work...

Masks actually work when used properly.
I see people put them under their nose. Failure.
Pull your mask off, stick it in your pocket and put it on again. Failure.
Wear the same mask over and over again. Failure.

A mask is a barrier to the virus.
If you are around someone who is contagious and the virus is on the surface of the mask, touching it with your hands (for adjustment or removal) and then rubbing your face will surely land the virus on your face.

I would go with MOSTLY work. They are not totally inpenetrable barriers.
They certainly REDUCE the risk by reducing the transmission of droplets, and that is important.
They work to some extent but try wearing one for 8 hrs straight and see how you like it.

sigh
You are right... next time you're at the dentist, ER, doctor's office, tell them you sympathize with their situation and allow them to remove their masks when they work on you.
rolling on the floor laughing Good comeback! We're all in this together and all have responsibilities.

On the other hand I did the cardiac stress test wearing the mask the other day, and after 20 minutes when he asked if I was alright to have the speed increased yet again, I could definitely feel the effect of lessened oxygen intake, in my legs, and declined. I wear it as required, but am very aware of restricted breathing. Heart satisfactory nonetheless. This time was much more difficult, whereas the last time had been a walk in the park.
gee, a barrier for breathing has negative results. how strange
i had this bird once. i put it in a cage and it didn't fly anywhere. so weird

there is yet another way of reason. Understand "the virus" is MICROBIAL. If masks worked-- along with the $0cial distance & the incessant hand washing-- the curve would have FLATLINED by now.

@crypto another mindless witless and puerile attempt at sarcasm, which has no relevance, as usual. The mask is uncomfortable, but serves the purpose of reducing risk in both directions. Masks do serve a function, but are far from comfortable. Thinking could serve a function in your case but appears to make you feel uncomfortable too.
If mask worked why do we in ireland have the highest rate of cases at 1600+ a day as mostly all the population ware them and we have the highest up take of the Pfizer-BioNTech one county is fully vaccinated and is the most infected mask don't work I never wore one and have not been sick in over 2 years . I'm asthmatic.
They could work, but should they?

Are masks worth the harm to the environment, our health and attitude to each other if we need to catch covid anyway? Obviously hospital is one exception, fair to mask up when you're surrounded by death.
They don't 'work' but they do 'reduce' - and that is all that is actually claimed.
