homeless people ,,,,

i have watched a few docs on homeless people ,,, and to be honest i would never hand out money to any homeless person,,, for several reasons best known to myself ,,
but the bigger question is why are people homeless ,,, to which there are lots of reasons ,,,
and next the age range of homeless people ,,as it differs quite a lot ,,
so from the docs that i have watched including docs that have been interviews with all age ranges ,,
the following is what i saw,,
the young homeless people cover two main types ,,,the first are either alcohol or drug abuse ,where the family have had enough of them and kicked them out for making their own lives a misery ,,and these are the ones that just do not give a dam about anyone or anything except for them selves, but will always play the poor me card ,,
then you have the other youngsters who have left abusive homes or parents seeking a better life with out a plan of action and go couch surfing and the like until people have enough of them and tell them to move on,,
then you have the mid range age group ,that come from relationship break ups loss of job or just bad debts ,,this group also includes families with young kids in tow ,these are mostly eviction people and this group is going to grow at a alarming rate once moratorium ends ..
the oldest group has the biggest problems , mental health being a major contribution , no jobs and no job prospects ,and no family support ,drug and alcohol abuse ,these are the lost souls with little hope of a future ,,
homeless people live in motel rooms mainly families on what support they get ,the mid range tend to live in cars or vans as these still have jobs as such but never enough money to get out of the rut ,
the older generation are found in skid row if they are drug or alcohol dependant and in tent cities if they are not , tent city homeless people due to mental health problems cause more problems by piling up junk and trash all over, and that is why they kept moving on due to clean ups,
homeless hostels and shelters are not the safest of places probably the most dangerous ,
,,,this is a world wide problem that has never been solved surely with todays technology there must be a answer ,,but the truth is there will never be a answer ,,because you can only help people that want to help themselves ,sadly it is just another way of life or should that be a way of existing

I have the greatest empathy for homeless people but it is getting hard to differentiate between the genuine person on the street or the con person. of which there are now many.

As you say this is a huge problem across the World and I guess could get worse due to the current ongoing issues of mass unemployment etc.

I try to assist by offering food and a hot drink rather than money which most people have been grateful for. Unfortunately some local Councils want to ignore the problem which just makes matters worse. I know of one area where the seats in the Public Gardens were fitted with a centre piece to deter people sleeping on them. Fortunately there was a protest and they were removed.

I'm pretty certain most people would prefer a decent roof over their head than a cardboard box.sigh
tiger,,,, the docs that i saw people were so used to living on the streets that they would not take shelter when offered, and yes authorities choose to ignore rather than do some thing because they believe it encourages the situation,,lack of social housing is a massive problem ,,and greedy landlords add to the problem no man should see half of his wages go just in rent
This is what I do also. Although, when in Florida, it's not a hot drink.
Apprentices stopped the business from going under when originally the chairman was just trying to be a good man I think. To give youth a chance. It saved the business to have these millennials who were not sent off to the university of the former indoor swimming pool to study gender theory. And in classic areas of the country this still stands. Don't treat us all like we're from London.
chesney,,,,,,sounds like you have a big grudge against society geezer
Hey, Ed. Our friend. To paraphrase a buxom female US actress---I've been in mansions, and I've been homeless---the mansions were always better.
you have some serious issues young man ,,so i suggest you put up a blog and discuss it there ,here is not the place ok ,,if you persist then i will have to delete your comments ,which i really do not want to do as i believe in free speech ,but you can not just hi jack a blog for your own reasons ,,,
vier ,,, well young man ,mansions are great if you have a big family but in reality you can only sleep in one room cook in one kitchen shower in one shower ect, ect,,,i can never get my head around why people want a 3 bed 3 bathroom property
snowy,,,,,the homeless steal from anybody if they are hooked on what ever ,,in their eyes it is fair game ,,
if you want to see a real eye opener ,,just have a look at slab city on youtube ,,then you will see the answer to that problem ,,
Hi ed, yeah I've seen the place alright and it's scary. We don't have anything that bad here in Ireland although on a smaller scale not too different.
Can't agree with you on the stealing part, only a minority of homeless in my experience are thieves.
And do you know that in California there is a vegan food bank. There is no better proof of impoverished decadence than a vegan food bank. No better example of the falsity of our wealth and status.
I don't know about "impoverished decadence" but surely a vegan food bank is better, for the environment?
I agree. Never had anything even close to a mansion. Especially these days, having more than one needs, is a curse. But compared to 90% of humanity, even modest but decent accommodation is somewhat out of bounds, no?
But we can't throw the "capitalist monster" off our backs. Fortunately, or unfortunately, it's the best system that we have.....
vier ,,there is plenty of modest accommodation at modest prices for less than 10.000 dollars ,,but not always where you want to live ,,in italy a couple of years ago ,they were selling houses for one euro each ,with a proviso that you used local tradesmen to repair them ,,,
Having a home is considered a basic need of life, but there are actually many people who have no shelter.

This is a thought provoking read.

Hi Ed..we don't have many homeless people here...not that I know of anyway.

Many young people, and even 40 year olds, still live at home with their parents.

In Germany, where I used to live, most had houses big enough to accommodate the whole family.

In Japan, from what I've heard, they have a granny flat for the mother.
hi dani ,,in japan now they are living shoe boxes ,,,the best country for elderly people has to be turkey ,because the have a law there that states if you are eldery and you are struggling with finance and your children do not help you out ,then the state takes the children to court for maintenance money to help you out,,i never saw homeless people as such when i lived i am sure there was but they are not out in the open as in other countries ...
skid row California's homeless living in the desert slab city.
Things like this lift their dignity:

vier,,, i watched a docu ,,about darwen death valley a very small town where everyone is on social payouts ,,nobody works or needs to drugs and alcohol they have suffered from at one time or another,,
reminded me of slab city ,, and slab city is now happening in every american city ,,social hand outs in america encourage this form of living ,,easy money with no effort involved ,,if the country keeps this up then the usa will be a third world country ,,,
I should but I don't have much sympathy for homeless people, having said that I am adapting to appreciating, better them, then me, which softens my lack of sympathy a bit.
