In response to the attack on Pearl Harbor, Canada declared war on the Empire of Japan Before the US.

Representative Jeannette Rankin (Republican from Montana) was the 1st woman to hold Federal Office in the US.
She was the Only member of Congress to vote Against the US entry into both WWI & WWII.
Shoulda given ms rankin to the japanese.
Pearl Harbor was 80 years ago

The Civil War was 80 years before that

The Revolutionary War was 80 years before that.

It makes one wonder what may be looming in our Very Near Future ... uncertain

There'd likely not've been WWII without WWI.

As for the effect on the course of World History -
Gavrilo Princip shot Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand & Blew Up the World that Was and Was to've Been.

In an Instant - He reset the course of history of the Entire World.
No other single action by one person has Ever had such far reaching consequences.
Nothing else even comes Remotely Close.

The only single event that might rival it is the conversion of St. Paul on the Damascus Road.
But Paul didn't Do that - It happened To him.

And even That didn't change the World so drastically in so Short a span of time.

TIME Magazine named Albert Einstein the Person Of The 20th Century.
They got it Wrong - It should've been Gavrilo Princip.

I'm not sure people could survive a drop from 20,000 feet with a 1000 detonation. Houses would be blown into toothpicks in a range around 300 miles..

Albert Einstein suggested that any outcome of a possible WWIII would be so dire as to revert mankind back to the Stone Age.
And then we rebuilt Japan into a trading giant>doh Guess it behooves the wealthy.
Mom was always after me as a kid about Pearl Harbor. Guess it was because her Navy dad could have been there except for his disability by then. As a kid..it has no meaning to me. Yeah mom, yeah..I know.roll eyes
But, mom got the last laugh. She died 29 years ago on Pearl Harbor Day. She made sure I honor and remember it. I like to hope her dad came to get her in her sleep. Weird eh?dunno
