The cheap happiness. Lol.

In the shopping mall I discovered some beautiful clothes for women at my mom’s age, so I bought two and planed to mail them to mom. Perhaps they are too modern for my mom, well last time I bought one for her and she said it was too outdated.

And these two clothes are a bit fashionable for her lol. When she knew it, she said via the phone: “Wow! Don’t buy those fashionable clothes for me! I am 50 years old la! Not 30!”

Yea, she is 50, not 30. When she was 30, she was young, good-looking, but at that time, life was harsh and she saved as much money as possible for her daughters who needed food to grow up. And later life was better, but her daughters needed a lot of money to go to school, so she saved money for her daughters’ tuition… And seldom spent money in buying herself those beautiful clothes. Now life is much better, I work and earn, and buy her some beautiful clothes, but she said: “I am 50 years old la, not 30.”

At a time I can have some money to buy her some beautiful clothes which she needed when she was young, she has become old and is not that young, good-looking woman any more.

And perhaps I should buy dad some clothes too, or else he will feel unhappy if I just buy clothes for mom. Dad is a series, silent man. He doesn’t like me buying him clothes, because, “If you have money, save it, or buy some good clothes for yourself to find a son-in-law for me. Do not buy clothes for me, I am already old. And do not squander it!” he always says.

Well, in a time when people like to boost how much money they spend in buying their clothes, their cars, or how much money their boyfriends spend in buying them diamond rings or necklaces, dad will be considered as a miser, so I am a little miser too. Lol. So I always think that he doesn’t like new clothes.

But actually it is human being’s nature to love beautiful things… When he was 20 years old, he dreamed to have a dreaming clothes. At that time people bought cloth and asked the tailors to make clothes, so dad worked hard and finally saved enough money to buy a piece of blue cloth and asked a good tailor to make a suitable clothes for him… of course this is something that happened many years ago before I came to this world.

He likes new and good clothes, but he doesn’t like me buying him some clothes, just because he knows it is not easy to earn money these days, and he works hard, to save money, for his daughters.

Molly used to like boosting how rich her family was when I was with her at the campus. She always boosted that her father was a manager and her mother did business… lol. In her eyes, her family is expensive. And mine is cheap.

But the cheap family can have some cheap happiness too. When Molly comes home, facing the empty great house because her parents are all busy with their work, how can she understand the happiness I have when I go home, with dad off work, mom already finishing cooking the dinner, and sister there; and how can she understand those cheap happiness when we sit together, to eat the dinner, to talk about daily things, and to watch the television news in a common day!

That’s a family, something which can make you feel warm, cozy and safe inside.
