As I remember it.....

Is technology making us lazy? With technology, life is definately become easier but is that so? Some said, with technology, we become lazier . I remember in the 70s & 80s, I hand-washed my family's clothes. There was no washing machine then. Imagine the pails of clothes to be washed. But I survived. Now, I just chucked all my clothes into the washing machine. Ahhh...life's so easy.

Overtime, it spoils your clothes. Either they are torn or missing a button or 2.

2. Mopping the floor with a piece of cloth instead of a mop. I remember I used a piece of cloth and a pail of water to wipe/clean the floor or the whole house. Had to squad and wipe/clean under the chairs and desks. Can't believe I did that. Later, I used mop and had to squeeze the mop with hands.
Now, with a special pail, I don't have to use hands.

3. When I started working, I took the public bus. Though I had driving licence but dared not drive. Started driving after 10 years. Before I bought a car, I used public buses either to work or attending Girl Scouts meeting. I would walk from the bus station to the meeting place. It took me 20 minutes. Now, with a car, I dread walking even to the nearby shops( only 5 min walk).

It's so convenient driving to the shops. Before this I could walk miles and miles but with a car, I've become lazier. Sigh....

4. Cell phone. There was no cell phones. Only the old-fashioned telephones where there was no redial button. I could remember most of my friends and relatives telephone numbers. Now with a cell phone, I can't remember anyone's number by heart. All stored in the phone and searched for the names we wanted to call. As easy as ABC. Don't have to memorise the numbers . Our memories then were good but now....getting weaker and weaker for not using the brains much.

5. Computers/internet. I used to write letters to pen pals . My writing and grammar improved. I remember everyday I would wait for the letters. Disappointed when there was no letters from the postman.

Now, I just sit in front of the computer and type/chat with friends all over the globe. My typing improved but sitting too long in front of the computer make the whole body aching.

6. Greeting cards. Used to send greeting cards to friends. Now , just send e-card or wish them through emails or facebook. They can see the wishes immediately unlike sending by post. Got
to wait for 2 days to arrive.

In another words, we can't live without technology.

I need this to be happy.
Hi honeybzz! wave

Technology is our friend and laziness is a choice. uh oh

In the past, the effort of living filled the day. There was limited time for other pursuits. help

Technology has allowed us more freedom. The challenge lies in how we use this freedom; the time that we now have to do whatever we wish.

I don't worry about how others use their leisure time. We all could be more productive, but that's not what freedom is for. Freedom is for the pursuit of happiness (for ourselves and others) and it's not for us to judge others.

We should just look at ourselves and think about how we use the freedoms of time/leisure/energy in our own lives. dancing

Good topic! thumbs up thumbs up
I agree. We have too much junk at our disposal and it does makes us lazy.

But I keep my life simple and make choices like if I sit at the computer a couple of hours I make sure I also get up and do some chores or take a walk.
Sur_de_Quito, human are never happy with what they have. They have everything, yet they want more.
alonerdo, we can't live without technology but we can choose technology that is to our advantage.
Elmorya , true, human are never satisfied.

vyoleta metz, I believe true love can make a person happy.
Inthemind, I agreed that laziness is a choice. The benefits of technology is unquestionable . It allows us to do things we could not possibly do before.

If we are too dependent on it, it surely restrict our freedom and not forgetting a hole in the pocket.

Ed1941 , that should be the way. We should do some light exercises after long hours in front of the computer.
