Guess SA is in bed now, but we'll see tomorrow.
Perhaps i find out about the malaria thing then.

My guess is johburg is rel safe as its at 6000 feet above sealevel.
Morg, All you are getting is a vaccine just to boost your immune system . You are going there to have a good time not submit to an ailment . So the needle stings for a second or two . It is a small price to pay for a real shot at happiness . Good luck and I hope this one takes for the both of you . While you are there take lots of pictures and if it becomes one of those really sucsessfull ones, then you two will have no choice but to hunnymoon here in Puerto Rico . Curtisy of your personal tour guide . . . cheers
Morgen - bring a shot gun with you just in case rolling on the floor laughing

have a safe flight & enjoy thumbs up
Morg, I don't think there is a Malaria vaccine yet . I have heard that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is funding one but I can't add anything more . The desease is spread by the Anopheles mosquito . Just bring some mosquito repellent, prefferably one with DEET in it . You should be OK .
I was just thinking of you and your upcoming trip Morgan. I hope you have a great time and I look forward to hearing all about it. Dr's know best! peace

I know a girl, i norw friend of mine who once after finally having met a suitable man (following decades of wrong dudes) said:
"now i can die". Will never forget those words and the setting in which she said it. There is a lesson for us all there.

Mysst, ur not funny.
Virgo, yes. Thanks for the encouragement.
Calli, thanks.
Tango, see u soon.
Good luck & have fun in south africa!

Hep A & B shots are preventive measures in certain countries. As to do with water borne mainly...I think....& food borne illmesses. Sometimes when water is a problem that's what the shots are for. And sometimes its how food is prepared. The shots help if you get infected with a bacteria that causes hep A & B.

If you want more info you can check out this website.....traveldoctor.info. hope that helps you out. I hope I got the hep info right.
woo morg; hey have a great time, what are your plans when you get their site seeing
Not really Ter.
I wanna meet tango and her family members first and foremost.
Then i wanna learn about the country from them and their everyday life. Look at the near surroundings first.

Morgen hi, Good morning (hope its morning when you read this) doh .......blushing

Morgen, better to have your vaccinations before going into foreign countries(hepa, malaria, typhoid, and some others). Better take them before you leave for precautionary measures. To boost yourself with the immunity you need when you are in foreign land. Good luck and have a safe trip to SA. Have fun. And be happy...yay I just known you for a short period of time, but gosh, i feel very excited for both of you and Tangerino....yay

blushing
Yo Morg!wave Shay and most of the posters are correct: "have your vaccinations; there, at home; Hepatatis, yellow fever, etc.

However malaria prevention is best done by the following method:- "you take anti malaria tablets, a few day's before & continue for duration of visit" Am non negiotable on this!mumbling
I don't want to see you in a morgue!!!grin grin

professor Excerpt from Medical Journal:

"All recommended primary chemoprophylaxis regimens involve taking a medicine before, during, and after travel to an area with malaria. Beginning the drug before travel allows the antimalarial agent to be in the blood before the traveler is exposed to malaria parasites."

I camp our frquently in the bush & follow this as a prevention mantra!cheers handshake
hehehe....and do extend my regards to Tangerino....

I won't be here in KSA forever, i am sure of that and thank you for reminding me...hhehehe. Ohh, the photos...okay, it won't happen again... Be safe in your trip...
