The Dinner Table.........

When my kids were young and at home, dinner time was family time. Everybody at the dinner table at the same time. Talk of your day, jokes, school, news..... all took place as we sat together and ate. There was no eating in front of the TV, not in front of the video games, not in your room. We sat together. I thought this was the was all families ate dinner and was saddened one day to hear my daughter's friend say...."Do you eat dinner like this EVERY night? All we use our dinner table for is folding laundry."

Now that my kids are all grown and living their own lives, I only get this special dinner time on the holidays, but it makes me smile that my kids have taken this family ritual to the next generation.

C'mon....sit at the dinner table with me....let's talk about our days, the news, whatever....

Could someone pass me the salt and pepper please???

dinnertime was the same way here, me my parents my brother and my 3 sisters all on one table.. often joined by my uncle. Don't remember ever having serious conversations but we Always made allot of fun around the table. When I was very young.. till i was maybe 8 or so that would be the only time my dad actually had time for us.. he worked allot, allot at home as well so we did see him often but he was Always busy but we could bother him without him getting mad or something.. but dinnertime he actually had time to make fun with us. And ofcourse we did have the visits to the soccermatches every sunday. I like those memories. thanks for reminding me.

LOVED David Cassidy!!!!!
NOW THE DINNER TABLE THEN WATCH TESE GUYS ON BLACK AND WHITE TV COULDNT AFFORD COLOUR TV LICENCE THINGS HAVENT CHANGED STILL CANT LOL
Our family was so big we just kinda ate in shifts. Mom would always feed us younger kids first. However, holidays were different. We would go to the special table in the dining room and extend it and really feast!

Yes, good memories!

Oh yeah, a little add-on. I just got invited to my sisters house and she will bake a ham or probably most likely get a "Honey Baked" ham. They're up in age and we will just sit there and gab about "things", but it's always a happy one!
oh the partridge family ya
Calli....It made me smile when you said dingroon table and not kitchen table. Every place I have lived has had a diningroom. Not an eating area but a separate room, apart from the kitchen. I love that! I don't like sitting in the mess of the kitchen while I eat with my family and /or friends. Kitchen tables, in my opinion, are for coffee in the morning (if it's not nice enough outside to go on the porch) or doing bills.
