Stuff.....stuff........stuff!!!!!

With my new found freedom from work schedules, I have decided to clean out closets. I know, I know....not very self-enlightening, but non the less, necessary.

As I pull out everything from my bedroom closet, I don't even know just how I got all of this STUFF in there to begin with... frustrated Armed with a GIANT trash bag, and DETERMINED to thin things out, I begin to go through this heap of STUFF on my floor.

OH! It's a gift my daughter made for me in 1991....an old snuff can, painted a now fading pink with sea shells on top.....and look....it's my son's ribbon for perfect attendance in the first grade!.....and there's my oldest son's acceptance letter for college and paper arm bracelet from the first "gig" he and his band played.... giggle giggle

As I sifted through things...I found no need for the GIANT trash bag.....after all, when I was done all I had to throw away was a handful of old threads and store tags.

As I put the final box back into my over stuffed closet, I realized that this wasn't just "STUFF".......it was my memories.....my life. And my closet, I mean, my heart runneth over wine

I can relate. I always try to tell myself, "no you have to get rid of trash" but when I remember that "this is the wrapper of the candy my ultimate crush gave me." and "O, this is the banner my friends made for my birthday surprise." etc etc.. Result, they're still there.. laugh laugh wave
Bogart hug I am taking it easy...for ME anyway... giggle giggle
Good to know I'm not the only one! wave
NotMissTaken... wave I know. If anyone other than me went through my "stuff" they'd probably wonder what I was keeping all this trash for.... laugh laugh

Bogart... frustrated These are the only bricks I can find...and they're in use right now!!! laugh laugh
lgs,

Acting on a brainwave once I asked my sister to clean out my closets. Being such a close part of my life for so long she turned sentimental on me, reminding me of the value and meaning of each item she is about to trash!

Needless to say we ended up taking a trip down memory lane and all is still intact...

So much for depending on my 'brave' sis laugh
Chocheta.. laugh laugh Awesome sister you have there!! Maybe someday you'll do the same for her wine
Our "treasures" are like songs.....or smells, that can bring a memory into our minds and we get to "re-live" that moment.....and smile or cry or laugh...it's a GOOD thing... daydream daydream
Funny, when I decided to move here to Tennessee...I startedout with a three bedroom house....full of stuff...and horses and all that goes with them. I came here with only that stuff that would fit in my car and some horse tack that would fit in the horse transport...at first it was "painful" to eliminate my personal belongings....I kept only the most sentimental...all my pictures and some clothes and dishes.( And my BUlldogs toys...even though she is gone) Good luck with that!
Calli wave There are 2 kinds of "stuff" (IMO) There's stuff like televisions, couches, pots and pans, end tables, dressers, clothes...etc. and then there's STUFF.. pictures, cards, momentos, letters etc.. I'm not really a materialistic person, so the stuff I could care less about......but the STUFF....I'd fight for that....JMO
Over the years and a couple of divorces and almost going homeless relieved me of a lot of "trash". Things I really wanted to keep, I'm sure, but I don't know what it was with the exception of a few pictures I wished I still had.

However, I do have a small box of momentos that I drag from place to place. And I do know why I keep those. Just like you know why you have kept your "stuff"!!
Hey Lgs.

Good for you.

I personally, dont keep and hold onto possesions or the past anymore.
It can hold you back.

Ed... hug For some reason......and I'm not "profiling"...but us women tend to hang on to more things than you men do. Probably because we're, at times, more sentimental....hope I'm not putting my foot in my mouth...... foot in mouth giggle
whtwhb... Hey!! wave I've really been giving thought to your suggestions. It would be great if I could parlay something I really enjoy into a business!!! daydream daydream idea laugh
You aren't. But we men tond to "collect" different things like old army stuff we were issued. The picture of the big fish that didn't get away!
