I've been downsized......
I suppose I should consider myself fortunate that it hasn't happened before now.....but I must say....it's NOT a good feeling...
A combination of shock, panic, anger and disbelief all kind of rolled into one. 
I can see their mouths moving, but after hearing....."It has nothing to do with your job performance"...."You'll have a severance package"......"the turn in the market; increase in interest rates"...
I can't hear a word they're saying. Inside my head, all I can "hear" is....."starting over; what about my bills; who did I see was hiring?; what am I gonna do?"........ 
I began working, officially, when I was 15. In that time, any job changes have been my decisions....OH, and one company went out of business (I had been there 11 years). I've never been told that my particular area was being downsized. I know I'll find another job.....and I know I'm employable, but it HAS hit my self confidence a bit.
Thanks for listening....just needed to vent a bit.

sorry to hear that. unfortunately we have become expendable numbers and board decision now are to cut payroll. and, you as an experience manager you don't fit.....because you THINK!!

They say it happens to everyone, so I think it's encouragement enough that You're not the only one who have been through that situation.. And yes, no matter what people say to reassure you it's nothing personal, still it hits your inner shield and somehow makes a little damage on your defenses. But you'll get it over it. You'll pass through that horrible feeling.. Just remember, it's temporary. Helps a lot with me.. I'll invite you for a drink

before the good news bad news must come first. . . .
So have short vacation aka quality time wit your family before searching for your next job. . .
