My Wikipedia Donation
Do you use Wikipedia? It is rather amazing that all this information is available for free on the internet. It's also impressive that so much of it is accurate and complete!I have considered making a donation to their efforts before and thought it would be more fun to include the nice people here on CS.
I'm going to donate 10 USD ... plus 1 dollar for each person who adds a comment to this blog. Mention that you have used Wikipedia or just say hello ... and for each visitor to this blog, I will add $1 to my donation.
I thought this might be an enjoyable group effort.
Also - Has anyone been involved with editing Wikipedia entries? It doesn't seem that my own knowledge would be worthy of their efforts but I'm tempted to register and find out how I could be useful.
They seem to want to gather the combined intelligence of the world (support for many languages exists and is actively being improved). It's a huge effort ... it would be nice to be part of it.
I'll add up the numbers on New Year's Day. This will be a nice way to welcome 2013.

hope you dont mind me posting this funny video as your asking about Editing .
There are different kinds of charities. Technically (the way they are set up in the US) this is a charity. Beyond this, however, it's one of the grand projects that the internet makes possible.
I'm continuously curious ... the wealth of information available continues to amaze me.
The video reminds me of the early days at Wikipedia. People would sign up to assist and would end up posting bad information ... no references ... something off-topic or simply wrong.
As it has evolved, I've become impressed with how complete entries seem to be. References and footnotes are common now. I don't know how it all happens but it is cool.
Yep, a long time ago ,changed something about some customs and religion
Thanks for sharing your experience. I like the way they are working to get cultural topics right. It has to be difficult to keep facts separate from opinion and legend. It's good that they open it up and try to get it right.
Nice idea!
I use Wikipedia reltiv often, but as you aleady know not every time I can find right information. Still not the perfect site,,,,,but nevertheless enough usefull.
Happy New Year!
I agree ... not always correct but overall a good resource.
I use the site often myself and have noticed that their quality continues to improve.
Thank you for adding your thoughts.
I use wikipedia a lot, it maybe the first link I open when I google something. And I edited one entry about a TV series I wrote, I did not know It was in wikipedia until one of my friend google and found it there.
It's a nice idea that you do this. Happy new year, Richard, hope you have a blast year ahead
Editing the entry on the TV series you wrote ... Did it feel good to contribute or did you just feel obligated to make the information accurate?
Having things about us (and things we're involved with) posted on the web brings a different sort of burden to us. Do we end up wondering if anything about us is incorrect?
Anyways ... thank you for sharing your experience. I think your work is interesting.
I did that to make it more accurate. Actually I'm not too fond of internet thing, maybe if I was, i would've changed the whole entry Fortunately I am just a person behind the scene, not a celebrity people love to gossip about, so all news I found in internet about me is true, mostly about series or a book I wrote. It's good to have yours on internet, at least people you're communicating with can see the you're real Actually that entry in wikipedia I knew from an online friend I was talking with, it's funny I never realized about that after years
Another part of the story of our lives... the mosaic that is created as we turn the pages ... different projects, different people... The stories are interesting.
Yes,I have used Wikipedia. It has been a useful tool at times for when needing research for some of my studies at school. I don't mind taking a look at it first, and then go on from there if need be.
Most definitely you should register, any knowledge and contribution is worthy.
'Happy New year'..
Happy New Year to you!
Useful for research for school studies... This tells me that you have confidence in Wikipedia. I remember having to go to the encyclopedia at the library for school work. If the topic wasn't a popular one, the description wouldn't be very detailed.
Thankfully the depth of content isn't a problem in the new digital world!
