Communion Time

My son makes his communion in a few days. This Country has changed so much Since I made mine that I sometimes think, either I’m getting old or “I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
Gone are the days when Dads would spend savings renting a car and piling the family in for a session of mass were kids stood silent and parents believed the priest to be a powerful messenger from God, and afterwards the arduous journey around to a long list of Christmas card Relatives would begin.
A day of Fond hellos and sad Goodbyes, Biscuits, cake and Lemonade. and at the end Children counting the rewards of their efforts of being Good patient children.
We now have a disempowered church seen as a shadowy organisation of corruption and abuse, Priests now ask for respect rather than demand it. and rightly so in my opinion.
Family’s now book Pubs and Venues For meals, the cars are left at home and tired old relatives come shuffling out of homes to half heartedly take a place at the table with with others they would rather not see, Hellos are barely mustered and every one thinks about what they ought to be doing elsewhere. dinners and desserts* are quickly eaten and Separate roads are taken until the next grandiose event in the constant game of one-upmanship.
Now when children get home they most likely google what upgrade they are going to buy for their virtual existence to help them escape the tortures an all too real reality. before being Dragged of to make a Confirmation.
But for the most part these changes are Political in nature but alas not in practise. We still have The Rich saying that the poorer majority are suckling too hard from the social teet and the majority of the poorer Class saying the rich are corrupt and squander to much Public resources. Im sure this will be the way and its an Argument that we will face for many years to come, And honestly an argument I am hesitant to try answer as its bound to lead to fisty-cuffs.

The European Union is now almost Twenty One years old. With the signing of The Maastricht Treaty establishing it into its currant entity.
This would mean in my eyes as a Community we should have, the large majority of us anyway made our Confirmation to it, let alone accepting its Communion,
But for the life of me I can remember doing either, I Voted Euro skeptic all the way from my Eighteenth Birthday till now. As have most people I know for some strange reason, This is not to say Im for shutting Ireland off from the rest of the world. Far from it. What I am against is the fact that what seems set up is just more subterfuge another smoke and mirror gag to confuse us. Maybe Im slow when it comes to politics but here are three simple questions about the EU I have no idea about. Perhaps my Ignorance is leading me to this feeling of oppression I’m getting lately !

1. Who is the Head of the EU ? and Why

2. How are your Country’s issues Prioritised in the decision making process.
Do you have a Voice ?

3. Are we on the way of becoming a United States of Europe and if so how does that idea sit with your Patriotic Constitutional views, Do we have any left after The Treaty of Lisbon ?

How I yearn for another day of lemonade and Cake. sigh
Non.
What a difference.doh

Good Old days.handshake
timotie,
Times sure have changed thumbs up
Non, that's a big subject confused just taking the voting issue for the moment, as I recall the UK voted in the 70's on what was then known as the Common Market, it was a narrow yes vote but since, whenever the subject has come up in conversation I've found, like you, it's near impossible to find anyone who either did or will admit voting yes, I don't realistically think the vote was rigged so that leaves us with a large percentage telling porkie pies laugh But this aside the UK has never been given a vote on what we have now, my feeling is all governments since the 70's have been scared to give the populous a vote as they know likely result. doh
Zman,
the Political approach today does indeed seem to be
"its easier to get forgiveness than it is to get Permission"
I don't know who's to blame for that the voters or the voted. dunno
Bogart,
I agree but All great civilizations in history have made the mistake of stretching their resources a bit to far, and always resulting in failure of Solitary Governance. Do you really think it will be different this time around. cheers
Non, again from memory, the Spanish had a vote a couple of years ago on changes to the constitution, the government advised voters to vote yes & then did, in huge numbers, possible in 90% range, I wonder now that EU subsidies have begun to dry up, unemployment is heading for 30% & austerity measure are hurting most whether they would get the same support dunno
Non, nope.. we humans really like to make the same mistakes all over again..but also, mother earth can not cope with the increasing number of human kind type; so unfortunately, we will see some type of controls in the future. the main questions is who is going to control - US/europe, versus china versus russia...
Zman,
I am researching the fact that because of the said promises to get the Lisbon treaty ratified, were in fact all lies Was there an act of fraud perpetrated on the peoples to sell out their constitutions. these lies include Freer trade, more jobs, less tax and others I have to go dig up. If in deed we as a people could find this we could legally null and void a lot of the BS being handed down in Austerity dunno confused
True Bogart,
I see that storm on the Horizon too sigh
Another Crusade perhaps to cull the numbers ?
already in progress my friend.. already.. and we will pay for that (both ways)..

George Orwell's Ghost is Rolling his eyes and shaking his head as we speak. doh
Dela,
I could not have said that any better.
I also find it funny that the feel good factor Film the Hollywood
Clap Trap gave us this year was Les Misérables. laugh

Instead of having a revolution we can watch it on the big screen and then in the comfort of our own homes with our feet safely of the ground. rolling on the floor laughing
George Orwell's was a great prophet, in a few years, he will be so close to reality that his writing will be banned.

Non I got up this morning to a gorgeous day. Went and got some fresh fruit from the market and felt on top of the world so to speak. And then blues I read this and the reality of what is going on under the surface of our existance set in. I think I will always pine for the way things were. I don't really know what awaits in the future. I do know I miss the days when you bought fresh baked cookies over to the new neighbors moving in instead of looking out your window with fear and wondering what to expect from the new arrivals. The world progressed as they call it. I guess I really haven't. My heart is still in the fifties and sixtiesmoping sad flower

Congratulation to your son with his Holy Communion!
I am happy a new " adult " member of Catholic Church joins us! innocent

This days, your son cannot understand the meaning of Communion for himself maybe; as we all - members of the EU, do not appreciate fully the EU Importance. I am EURO- Optimist and how I am devoted to Catholic Church, as well I am devoted to the EU.

I believe in progress and the United Europe States is the best way of development and cooperaton in spite of the fact " teenage EU member states" do not appreciate it much today.

Maybe one day your son will feel the impact of Communion according himself in Catholic Church and his approach to himself,God,people, and love.

One day we all will understand why the EU is the way of peaceful and prosperous vicinity in Europe.

Please God.

P.S. If not.... we have tried to do something great and positive.

Enjoy your day Non.
thumbs up
fleurdelis,

Thank you also for the wishes of spiritual bestowment toward my son
