The good old days

I remember the days when watermelons had a dark green ,almost black crust and they tasted so much better than the one we have nowadays ,When I ask the farmers who grow them, what happened, all they say is we have some new hybrid seeds.Nowadays they are bigger heavier but they smell like grass and the taste just aint the same .Same thing happened with tomatoes
they just don`t taste the same ,They look good but the taste is gone ,same story,we have some new hybrid seed
I wonder if the children of our children will say at some point in their life,"I remember the good old days"

Yes, it's same stories in our life, in other hand, we should keep on moving for surewine
Hi dedo I remember youwave I can remember in the good old days when my melons were bigger toodevil no no the ones I grow in my green house.
Hope your are wellcheers
A common thing to say for each new generation. I remember my grandfather saying it, now my dad and i even start doing it myself nowadays.
Basicly its an easy way to express concerns about certain aspects of daily life.
Some things have changed and won't be considered an improvement to some. Others on the other hand may think these changes are for the better. A community as a whole will determine where things go to in the future, some changes we will like others we won't. Its the price we pay for evolution.
hmmm indeed I do know too what you say indeed About the Watermelons we Had in California in the 1940s 50s and the Tomatoes . had not had one in years . its not the same indeed . every one Grew the own mostly in the Vally .
Those plants were attacked easier by different deseases and they have new formulas now imbented them in zukini plants that are much stronger and resists deaseases so they use those methods but they are tasteless.professor
handshake Dedovix, I know exactly what you mean and the very best watermelon I tasted was grown in the Kalahari, a semi desert place. Was also a dark green skin. Apparently the ones being grown now are more easily transported and have a longer shelf life.

Watermelons are thought to have originated in southern Africa and there is evidence of their cultivation in the Nile Valley as far back as the 2nd millenium BC. They do not feature on the walls of the Egyptian tombs but numerous watermelon seeds were recovered from the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
i bought 1 kg onion just for 9 rupees ( 0.145 usd ) a couple of days ago. applause
Dedo,

I never was much for watermelon, it taste like water and ice with food coloring on itdunno dunno
I do enjoy tomatoesthumbs up thumbs up they are great on sandwiches, unless the sandwich is peanut butter, of course
doh doh
There is a market near my home and I often buy fruit based on how it smells. The hybrids usually lack that heady aroma.
you are right - I remember saying to my Dad, these rotten tomatoes just don't make the same mess as before when we throw them at those pesky politicians! grin
You can still find the non-hybrid seeds if you shop for them. BTW, the same is true of cows and chicken. Many hybrid varieties exist, but the old lines can still be found.
GMO food now,canned food,was better for us/better blood flow,etc.
