Did somebody mention Motorhome?

Bought one a good number of years ago and had a fantastic time touring Portugal. Sadly it now sits abandoned in the drive waiting for some TLC.

With my retirement years quickly approaching, the idea of an American all singing all dancing motorhome is very apealing.

Already own a plot of land to plonk it on in between touring the sights of Europe.

Nice,
that second one is pretty cool, thumbs up
As lovely as that would be on site getting it there in Europe would soon become a nightmare, that's even if you have an HGV licence doh
I agree Z and Non, but stil onderful to contemplate, a few years ago I looked at one in the Uk similar for sale, but due to the enormous tax here and road tax on an ordinary R.V. is massive, goodness knows what A Damon bus size Camper/R.V. would cost, the dream lingers though laugh
Z and Love

The cost of a 31 footer is marginal (30K) can be driven on an ordinary drivers licence if below 7.5tones. No road tax payable where I live, insurance around 800 euros per year is reasonable.

Petrol or diesel is less than 90cents per litre and in Spain there are no restrictions as to when it can be parked.
Hmm, that one in the picture is a pusher, all of which go over the 7.5 ton limit, has it been a while since you were in mainland Spain dunno laugh the police will almost follow you around in that to move you on everywhere you stop, round here at least, but the main problem I found with them was access to sites, most are down small country lanes & even if they fit through the gates not many have pitches long enough dancing diesel engines can also be hard to find, mine was 6.2 V8 diesel but a lot are petrol & the mpg is a bit mind-boggling on those, insurance though I used to get through NFU for less than £200 fully comp & green card for any length of time.
Sol, I see denmark has "Registreringsafgift" which is an insane duty levied on vehicles, the tax is the Valuation, not the price paid!... which amounts to 180% duty of the Valuation, Plus 25% Vat on top, road tax for a small camper is very steep, so a large R.V. would be also pro rata.
The tax is enforced rigourously, danes have them registered in germany, some try to holiday in dk, but they get stopped and. impounded, residence means TAX payable, all the money levied on vehicles goes diret to the comprehensive healthcare system, like the uk has but on a very much more inflexible scale.
Love, it's not much better in Spain in regard to anything American, the guy who handles car import duty for me said whatever I did don't import an American car as the minimum duty payable is €6k no matter how old it is doh
Just remembered, the other big problem with them is where to empty the waste tanks, very few sites have the drive facilities they need, European motorhomes have a cassette you can carry to the emptying point.
Love, I'm sort of stuck between realising that something has to be done on the air quality but being retired can't rush out & buy a new 4x4 every time a new model comes out, I'm still not convinced they really tell us the whole truth about what's causing the pollution, I'm reminded of the panic about methane, they said we were causing a hole in the ozone layer when cows produce far more than we ever did doh
Love, I'm totally powered by solar & wind here, of course with over 320 days of sun it makes it more practical but yes it's a large capital investment to install but I'm told prices are going down dramatically now.
One of the princes, can't remember if it was Charles or Philip did have a plant on their farm to harness cow slurry, but it exploded laugh
We got a bit off the camper track hehe!
My dream was realised partly of campers I bought a couple of caravans one big one quite small, fun nonetheless
Happy camping all :)
I took a picture of an American camper I saw in Scotland many years ago. It looked like a bullet or a tube train. What a dream!

I wish I could share it with you but I don't have the know how.

doh cool
When I was living and working in The Netherlands, I bought a medium motorcycle. I drove it all over the place and even took a camping trip, hitting 10 countries in 28 days. I never had a problem with traveling or finding a place to camp. I hit the back roads and saw a lot of places that tourists never see and met a lot of good people, both locals and other campers. Very inexpensive vacation. I would love to do it again if I could. handshake
