After The Crossing

This video clip gives you an inside look at people trying to flee their countries but current US and Canadian policies hinder the hope of crossing the Canadian border legally...a program called The Fifth Estate reporting on this problem...

Another video clip to explain this phenomena...

If this was such a concern then why weren't the borders made stronger long ago to keep them out?

Puzzling to say the least.dunno
CC

It was not about keeping them out as much as recognizing they were in peril if they returned home...immigration lawyers knew that they would have better chances at entering Canada by illegal means rather than requesting asylum due to the pact between the US and Canada regarding where they entered in the first place...in other words the asylum seekers had a better chance with being accepted as refugee claimants opposed to being turned back to the US...confused

Confusing I know but the policies made between the US and Canada regarding refugees made it complicated...no surprise there lol...laugh

These tireless immigration lawyers are a few that hear the plight of many with dire circumstances...if returned to their countries...we are so lucky to have such freedoms...

The other matter is due to the Canadian government stance on helping those in need due to political or religious differences that would ultimately lead to their death if returned...

The world is not as accommodating in regards to such freedoms...

sigh
When you really get down to it and past all the bull dung, obviously it's all political and about people's lives.
Still dodging the hot button issues I see, eh Lou?

Do these people flee bad situations? Yes.
Do organizations that to do mean harm use refugee situations to gain entry to countries? They claim they do.

Throwing the borders of any country open to any and all from everywhere, no questions asked is patently ridiculous, though I've actually heard some folks in the U.S. claim that is exactly what should be done.

We are not without examples of problems which accompany large/massive numbers of immigrants.
Search -

YouTube immigrants in Europe

YouTube somali immigrants in Minneapolis

YouTube immigrants in Dearborn, Michigan

Any of those searches will bring up many vids depicting the situations and offer opinions on them.

To deny there are perils in taking in large numbers of people is simply naive.

To what extent are countries expected to sacrifice their own countries to ease the plight of others escaping theirs?

Exactly one week ago today, I saw someone carrying a sign which I took to be a comment on the U.S. immigration policy...
"98% OF US COME FROM IMMIGRANTS"

Presumably the point of the sign was that we should welcome new arrivals.

The sign bearer may not have realized that her sign also begged the counter point...
"And how did massive immigration work out for the other 2%?"

Further complicating the issue...
The resources required to provide for a single refugee (such as immigrant lawyer salaries...which I suspect are fairly substantial) could be used to address the plight of 12 people in a stricken part of the world.

So. How genuinely compassionate are we if we feeeel good happy place doting on the one that we see...while ignoring a dozen we do not see snooty
To say we should do both ignores the obvious truth that each dollar of resources can be spent only once...and the supply is not unlimited.

Yeah. I know, Lou. I've answered your question with a host of others.
You asked for thoughts; it's in no way a simple situation.

could any country with numerous cultures solve these disputes cow vs buffalo/Hindu vs muslim

To answer Immigration Law,seeking asylum as a refugee is allowed once, not a pass to shop around services.
They're essentially sponsored by a host country/community-like an adoption placement. An adoptee wouldn't solicit, runaway or hand over adoptive demands.
We do have an example/miners' canary...

YouTube immigration is destroying the EU

Note - The situation is not liberalizing Europe; it is driving it toward far right policies. Not 'may be' or 'will'.....IS!

Immigrants/invaders in Europe might do well to understand that the continent has a historical potential for lurching to the right.
They might study the relatively recent (let us say, the past 100 year) history of European right wing politics.

They should also realize neither European countries nor the EU have a functional Bill Of Rights such as that written into the U.S. Constitution.
They're flying without a net.

Yes, quite, my Wisconsin friend. Miss my days in Green Bay, with those awesome supper clubs Fridays, 75 cent lipstick on the glass 12 oz brewskys, the 15 pound lake Michigan trout on the grill, don't mention the walleye, the Appleton experimentsl aircraft fly in, and those yummy blondie, long legged, big toothed, hair puffed up in front, Nordic ethnic girls. You bet ya!. Aa.

Beyond what Dinesh said...
Listen to what the Dem strategist said.
He acknowledged that Hillary lost the blue collar vote in Pennsylvania & Michigan. That (and Wisconsin & Ohio) should've been a foregone demographic for the Dems.
That was the iceberg that sunk the Dem cruise to the Presidency.
He's absolutely correct.
There's no better, kinder way to spin it.

He's also correct saying the Dems need to get that base back.
After they exhaust all the Russian, 'whitelash', (fill in the blanks) .....ism(s) & .....phobia(s), 'hatred' and other nonsense escuses, that's gotta be how the Dems find their way back.
Period.

Again...
They should put this on a loop & watch it 'til it sinks in...
