Two holidays eclipsed by Santa...

I was in the Home Depot this past weekend and that area with holiday displays had Christmas trees and four foot high plastic Santa statues. This year, sales of Christmas ornaments eclipsed Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Walgreens Pharmacy hasn't lost the spirit as they have an entire aisle of ghosts, goblins and skeletons...

Mozambique

Mozambique has one of the most beautiful unspoiled coastlines in Africa. However, most beach tourism is confined to its islands.
Dont come to Mozambique if you are expecting that life here would be the same as where ever you came from.
It suffers from poor infrastructure and roads, inadequate public healthcare, corruption and sporadic water supply.
Id say visit Mozambique only if you're the adventurous type.

Its a paradise.

Halloween past

We all have memories growing up what it was like during the Halloween season. Seems like a lifetime ago, as I have fond memories of Halloween. The cold crisp weather, the scary movies put out by various networks, and of course, the candy. thumbs up

I would say my favorite Halloween was spent on Halloween eve when my area had trick-or-treat night on that day every years from about 5pm to 6:30 or 7pm. It was 1984 when my gf came down to spend it with me. We strolled around the area and got with my friend Steve as he was handing out candy to the kids out on the step for and elderly couple he knew. We sat down with him for a bit as we went on our way back to my house. We sat out back in my lounge chair out in my back yard for a while, and I gotta say, it may not have seemed like a lot, but it was honestly like a little piece of heaven for me. As I have gotten older, these memories have become even more special for me.

If anyone would like to share their favorite Halloween moment, feel free.

Oh, and as for the candy, gotta love those peanut M&M's, Reese's, Kit Kat's, and Twix candy. jackolantern

Stepping outside of one's Comfort Zone...Top 10 Survey findings (very interesting read)

Complimenting a stranger in the street is the top thing adults would most like to do in public, but don’t have the guts, according to a poll from the UK. The poll of 2,000 adults found 40 percent ‘consciously limit’ themselves in life because they fear being criticized when doing things more freely. The survey, carried out by OnePoll, revealed that going to the cinema alone, singing aloud, and walking barefoot are other unconventional activities we are too embarrassed to indulge in.

Well over half of respondents feel more alive when they push themselves out of their comfort zone, but they are often too scared to take the leap. One in three (34 percent) worry what other people would think if they were to be so adventurous—and 43 percent hold so much of themselves back that they believe others would be shocked to learn their true personality.

Pavan Chandra from Peperami, which commissioned the poll as part of a new campaign to encourage spontaneity, said, “We as a nation are traditionally known as being a bit stiff and reserved. “However, if everyone went outside of their comfort zone once in a while, they’ll start seeing the fun and exciting side of life.”

TOP 10 THINGS ADULTS WISH THEY COULD DO FREELY IN PUBLIC:
1. Compliment a stranger
2. Go to the cinema alone
3. Walk down the street singing loudly
4. Tell someone they love them
5. Listen to something without headphones
6. Fart or burp openly
7. Walk barefoot
8. Do yoga stretches in the park
9. Adjust your underwear
10. Dance in the street

Life Update

I have been self employed for 10 months now and it’s caused my brain to think in new ways. It has greatly improved my skepticism too. I posted this on Facebook and I wanted to share it here as well. It is something I need to do because I don’t want to look back on life never taking the initiative.

I put this in quotations because I am quoting myself from Facebook:

“Okay so here’s the game plan with my professional life. First I will renew my MA state certification, then update my resume including the certification renewal. Then I will start applying for lab technician jobs. I’m going to tell employers that medical assisting is a back up job but I really want to do laboratory work. I think that’s the best approach. It’s good to have everything updated on your resume first. So Tuesday I will be heading to Fresno Library to work on renewing my certification. It expired in May. I have a one year grace period to renew it but I need to get on the renewal list soon. The really cool thing about all this is that I don’t have to stress about it. If it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out and I still have medical assisting and self employment but I’ve decided to finally go after and fight for what I really want again. I have nothing to lose really. The worst they can say is no but I have to get onto the career path in the laboratory sector if I want anything to happen with it. You have to think everything through like this when you’re making a life change and that’s what’s always daunting for me but I don’t want to not pursue this, you know? I want to live life to the fullest. I still have my clinical lab science training license. Perhaps God will open up a door for me once I get in on the lower end of the totem pole. I realize I have to think positively now and not make up a million excuses. They want a 4 year degree in hardcore biology and chemistry classes to obtain that license and I did all that. I’m feeling like I want something now to show for all that work I did. Some of those classes I felt were at University of California level even Ivy League. I mean you can go as deep into studying science as you want. It’s really truly amazing.”

I’m very happy that self employment has got me out of my stagnated thinking. It was terrible. I was majorly stuck and it was preventing me from going forward.

Bored As All Get Out

I turned 40 last month and everyone is saying oh your 40s will be exciting. Nope. I feel like each year that passes is even more boring than the previous year. And I don’t mean boring like I have nothing to do. I mean psychologically boring. I always have plenty to do. I want to know when life started to feel boring to you guys and what did you do to remedy it? I feel like I’ve experienced everything except marriage and children and no good on that front as I seemingly grow distant from men each year that passes as well. I’m becoming LESS of what they want. laugh

Over 50? What and How have you changed?

For those of us who have, did crossing into your 50s change you much? After making it past 50, did your outlook on Life and attitudes about it change?
Well, some things changed for me, physically and mentally. I’ve made a list. Perhaps it was the same for you too?

Things I now avoid doing as much as I once did:
* Watching, listening to and reading negative news broadcasts (local & international)
* Exercising on purpose (no gym, no yoga, no swimming)
* Buying low-fat and sugar-free foods (some taste ‘blah’, and are a waste of money)
* Worrying about eating 3 ‘square’ meals a day, drinking 8 glasses of water and getting 8-10 hours of sleep each day (don’t think it makes sense at this age)
* Accepting the opinions of medical ‘experts’, scientists, etc (about the health of my own body/mind)

Some of the things I’ve started doing more often than I once did:
* Letting the ‘chips’ fall wherever, and procrastinating (the world wouldn’t end if I do)
* Being patient with myself
* Being open-minded about the lifestyle choices of others
* Questioning established societal and religious ‘norms’ (some things just don’t make sense anymore)
* Accepting what Life ‘hands’ me and making it work
* Enjoying time doing absolutely ‘nothing’ except thinking, writing, watching, listening (just ‘being’)
* Expressing my thoughts through my writing (poems, blogs, etc), and sharing with/learning from others whilst chatting online

Many of these changes have helped me to enjoy better peace of mind, and general health. Adopting a pet added to my daily routines (and monthly expenses blues ), but that has also helped.

What about you?

To dream or not to dream...

I dream in color and most of my dreams are realistic. Normal stuff. I've jammed with other musicians, had conversations with friends and family. Discussed things about work. A few times I know what my day would be like because my dream the night before gave me a clue. Not a premonition, but enough sequence that I 'got the gist' something was coming up.

Years ago, I worked for a company and decided to leave because it was extremely hectic and I felt like I wasn't getting support from management... I waited for them to hire a replacement before leaving and a few months after, I was told the replacement wasn't working out and to PLEASE come back!
I did and the night before my fist day back I had a dream of meeting a blonde haired woman wearing a blue business suit. It was in a corporate environment and she was basically complaining to me about work that wasn't finished.
100% accurate. I was sent to meet a designer they started doing work for shortly after I left and she was very busy meaning it was potentially lots of work for us. So, I had to go to salvage the account.

Two days ago, I was dreaming I had the refrigerator door open and I was looking around. I do that often, open the door (letting cold air out) and stare for a few minutes... strange, but not a big deal for a dream. In the dream, I saw a package of English Muffins. I've been avoiding bread products to lose weight and thought "How did they get here?"
The first thing I checked when I got up was to see if English Muffins were in the refrigerator. Nothing!
Yeah, I've got some in there now!!
