Meowza...

Back from late night grocery shopping and reading some Yahoo! news while dinner is being prepared.
(almost) Top story: An elderly woman's decomposing body was eaten by her pet cats.
She died alone in her Madrid apartment and reported her 79-year old body had been eaten from the waist up. A Colombian national who had lived by herself since 1996, was discovered by Spain's National Police Corps last week.
A police officer visited the apartment after neighbors said they had not seen the woman for a month and reported a stench coming from her home.
It is believed she had been dead for at least three months and tests are being performed to see whether she died from COVID-19 complications.
Five of her cats had died from starvation. Two were alive but were in very poor condition and were sent to a local animal protection center.

The apartment was in a state of squalor, filled with animal excrement and garbage.
Personally, I cannot blame the cats for the garbage.

One of the police officers said it was the "worst thing" thing they had ever seen in their career.

Dinner is ready and I lost my appetite...

Feels so good

This morning I left my ex-girlfriend's place to play modified fast pitch softball.
I went 3 for 4 at the plate, but the team did not fare as well.
It was very hot & sunny and got hotter the more the game progressed.

After the game, I stopped by a grocery store and bought seedless grapes,
mangoes, honey BBQ sauce and a package of frozen strawberry fruit pops.
I ate 2 of the latter on the drive home and am now finishing the last one
while having a fan blow cool air on me.

All I can say, is that, it..... feels so good.

God Himself Could Not Sink This Ship

Words uttered by Caledon Hockley played By Billy Zane in the classic 1997 version of Titanic. The one James Cameron directed. By the way, James Cameron was very interested in studying Titanic and went down there himself to see where he went wrong in his film. I really respect that. But I digress. That’s a whole other blog. This blog is about my passion to relive the ill-fated ocean liner of years, no decades past. And to fulfill my dream to travel aboard the currently being built tribute, never a replacement, Titanic II.

Nobody claimed to have thought that Titanic was in fact unsinkable...at first. That was embellished by Hollywood. Titanic was indeed sinkable much to everyone’s dismay. In ways unimaginable to both the ship’s captain, engineer, and all the passengers in her wake. So what makes Titanic II virtually unsinkable? I say virtually because Titanic IIs voyages are currently being unrealized because she is currently being built. Which features defy nature? Nature by its very essence is undefiable. You cannot predict happenstance nor can you defy nature as proved by the original ocean liners sinking. It’s only considered unsinkable by our finite imaginations. Posing no contender to nature. Which is very much false. One can argue that nature has no contenders and must be respected.

First off we must thank the Australian billionaire Clive Palmer for putting the funds toward this project one that exceeds the funds of it’s predecessor due to inflation of course, duh. But I digress again. I want to give him credit for making my dream and passion of mine to sail aboard the Titanic, of what we knew her to be aboard the Titanic II. The current cost of the funding project is around 500 million and she is to set sail in 2022. Her first feature that I will mention is that she is true to the original model, just a bit broader to accommodate the physics of staying afloat in a crisis. She has third, second, and first class boarding accommodations, exactly like the original. I probably will stay in third class as the second and first class is way out of my price range rendering me subject to roommates, ugh, but ultimately, I do not care about where I stay in the ship. I can sleep in the cargo hold for all I care. Most of my days will be spent on the leisure decks and up on the main deck enjoying the cool Atlantic breeze and sunshine on my face. Enjoying the heck out of life.

Oops! There I go again...okay where was I...ahem. Oh yes. Another difference is that there will be plenty of lifeboats this time. Enough to accommodate every soul on board. Do I trust humans though?! Oh heck no! I will be bringing my own life jacket aboard. You never know what could or will happen. When a crisis happens and people panic they act irrationally. Someone could grab five life jackets and throw them overboard in an attempt to make a raft, and just like that you are without a life jacket. Anything is possible in a crisis. You have to think like that and always be prepared.

The hull in the original model was weak compared to the impact of an iceberg. To ensure it’s sturdiness the hull of the current model will be wielded shut and not riveted. The water pressure forced the rivets off encouraging faster flooding and rendered the water tight compartment worthless. And it was rumored that during her trial tests that there was an explosion in one of the steam rooms weakening the hull. The maiden voyage went on despite all this. I think that may have been true because there are too many things that have to had gone wrong to explain how weak the hull became. There have also been rumors that the ship was bombed and that’s how it split in half. Some of the passengers said that they heard a loud explosion but that also could have been due to the water pressure exploding the ships compartments and also steam pressure. It’s all so interesting but there’s no way I can prove a lot of the information that I read. (To be continued in comments section...)

Sleep deprivation... and the VBAR

On the weekends I usually go into hobby obsession mode doing maintenance and charging batteries for model helicopter flying sessions the next morning. This usually means 3 to 4 hours sleep. I'm usually out the door after 7am and go with no food or drink until I return in the early afternoon... sunburned, starved and dehydrated.

Lunch is a normal meal and I then go into hibernation for 2 hours to make up for the sleep lost the previous night.

My flight gear is low-end 'affordable' to me. Not fancy, stable with few options. The last 2 models I bought had a new control system with more sophistication in the way of offering the pilot features to change the way the model reacts in the amount of agility and reaction speed.

A docile model can now be user adjusted for high performance with control setting changes. The bad part is documentation for this is sketchy. The manufacturer has several YouTube videos in a series for setup. Other pilots have posted videos explaining some of the mystery... however, not enough detail is available to my satisfaction. For example, there are 2 parameters to control drift. One for front/back and one for left/right. The numbers can be in a range of -250 to +250. Great... except no one can tell me if negative numbers pulls it to the left or right. Seriously... 2 calls to tech support for clarification and the technician says he doesn't have time to 'walk me through' a setup and to follow the videos.

Currently, I'm the only one at the field flying that brand/model of control system so there is no local support. There are a few companies who make controllers and the majority of better pilots use one called VBAR. Naturally, it's advised if I want to up my skills, to get with the VBAR crowd as there are a handful of pilots who can offer direct help.

Friday a friend and I went to a hobby shop 40 miles away that specializes in selling the VBAR radio gear used to control model helicopters. Saturday, 2 of the club members did some surgery on one of my machines by removing the existing controller and installing a VBAR. The radio is fully controllable via a touch screen and within a few minutes they were able to download a few apps via Wi-Fi to further enhances it's capabilities.

One of the guys who set up the new system did some initial test flights while asking how I preferred the setup, handing it over a few times for me to try the different settings and telling which direction I liked best.
It was a busy day at the field with some 9 pilots waiting to fly so neither of use did more than a few test flights. On Sunday, I got in a few flights being very cautious as it's characteristics were very different from the previous controllers I had experience with.

I got the phone call lunch was waiting and I packed my things to head home. After eating, I got online to check mail and read some news stories. The one article that caught my attention was about sleep deprivation. We know it's been linked to hypertension, obesity and diabetes. Now it's believed to be connected to dementia.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear as I was fading and needed to power-nap.

Most of my Sunday is gone and I've got to finish some shop drawings for the kitchen I ordered last week. Hopefully, I'll get to bed before 2am as Mondays are always hectic and I need to be alert.

Driveway photos

Some of these are from one of my front yard driveway cameras the others were taken by hand.

Myth states red fox only come out at night, but of course they can come out whenever they feel like it. She isn't rabid I have both day and night photos of her for over a year. She comes out and wanders whenever the mood strikes her.

I have been watching this girl since she was just a fawn playing with her siblings. She found the camera long ago. She has posed like this on numerous occasions. Does she hear the ultrasonics and grow curious? I don't know.

One of these handsome men is probably her Dad. I believe I have seen her mom with both of them.

I snuck up on this girl *Grey Fox, (I have both types) when she wasn't paying attention.and started taking pictures. At the clicks of the camera she turned around and I got these images before she turned to look, freaked, and took off running for my woods.

I have a small fish pond I used to keep stocked with Koi. The fish would grow nicely and wintered over okay outside when the pond froze, but they kept disappearing. Somewhere around my third restock I grew curious and set up some motion detection cameras. The mystery was soon solved.

Again myth tells us these Opossum are nocturnal only and forbidden to emerge in daylight. I have seen the Opossum have not been told this rule on several occasions. This one let me take his picture before waddling off back into my woods.

I have occasional cougar, red wolves and bear too, but they are more elusive and don't give much photo opportunity.

Immortality

Do we become immortal when our name and date of birth and death become engraved in a granite stone?

If you think about what stands the test of time.

Would you write your most important bit of wisdom on your stone for the future of humanity (provided there is a future of humanity)?

So...immortality is real then.

If you believe...even somewhat...in astrology

Then you would have to believe that the alignment of the planets and the stars have power/influence over human life and or behavior.

It is said we are entering into a new era. An era that is completely out of our hands and will be dictated by the universe and its alignments. It is said to be a sort of golden era on a celestial level...humans are to become Christ-like....I have heard it described. Secrets of one's thoughts will no longer exist, where people will be able to know what you are thinking.

If you do not believe in astrology, then perhaps you can explain how it has existed for 1000's of years. That's a lot of crazy people out there over a long period of time.

Speaking of crazy. I was at a major hardware store today and the worker lady said something I thought was interesting....I can tell later she was sort of embarrassed for saying it...because it really came out of nowhere. While we were behind the computer and she was showing me the list of materials available, she blurted out, "no wonder people are crazy these days." I forget what we were talking about...but it really did not fit with what we were talking about. Perhaps she meant I was crazy. lol

Maybe it is just around my area here. But there have been some weird things going on lately. For example, at the same store 2 days earlier, they only had two checkouts open and there were two lines of people in the store that went halfway through it...and it is a large store. I have never seen that before. My dad and I literally had to wait about 20 minutes to get checked out.

Just today, hearing sirens in town (and I live in a very tiny town) I learnt that there was another serious roll-over accident at the same corner...that accident being the second one there in the last week. Whereas, there has not been an accident there for as long as I can remember.

A couple of days back...I have known my neighbor since he moved in 2 years ago. He is always a happy go lucky type...always willing to help out...always seemingly happy. We were talking and he used the "F" word. I remember feeling a bit shocked by that...that is the first time I have heard him use it.

Greeting from Tula de Allende Mexico

Haven't checked in in awhile. I'm giving my COVID vaccination a good test by traveling through a bit of Central Mexico. I started in Guadalajara and I'm in Mexico City tonight, where I spent a week. A lot of people wear masks but social distancing is pretty hard. Especially on crowded city buses. I'm going to Guatemala tomorrow. It's good to be traveling again. In the middle of the photo you can see the Aztec ruins in Tula de Allende. Cheers.
