Gopher Tortoise...

The Florida Wildlife Federation is sending out educational signs about the Gopher Tortoise, a land animal known to dig long and deep burrows. People have confused them with sea turtles and placed them in canals where they drown as Gopher Tortoises don't swim.

Under a new law passed in the UK last year, a man in his 40's has to tell the police 24 hours in advance if he plans to have sex with someone, he also has to provide them the pin number for his phone or face 5 years in jail wow The unnamed man has an interest in sado-masochistic sex (which by the way my auto correct wants to change to SODA-masochistic rolling on the floor laughing ) and was accused of rape, however even after a retrial he was found not guilty, we will probably never know what the police know, or even think they know, about this man but surely there's a human rights issue here, after two juries found him not guilty should the police have the right to inflict this on him dunno

Stormy Skies And Gales.

With winter approaching, we’re having a typical late autumn day. It is unpleasant outside. The sky is clear but there is a cold gale-force South Easter howling round the corners of the house.blues

When the Portuguese first arrived here, the wind blew them off the map and they aptly named it Cape of Storms. Later, when Sir Francis Drake arrived here on a glorious summer day and he saw Table Mountain in all its glory, he renamed us to Cape of Good Hope but I think the Portuguese got it right first time.professor

I’m living upstairs while working on the house. It is warm and snug here. I have a fire going and I’m sitting at the window looking down at the street while the wind bends the trees and chases the reds, browns, and gold of autumn down the road. There is an ominous bank of clouds sitting on the northern horizon but it won’t rain yet. It is the wrong wind for that. Our rain comes with the North Western wind.snowed in

They call this wind the Cape Doctor because it brings rain to the interior of the country but doctor or no doctor; it is no good omen to us here in Cape Town. This is the wind that takes roofs off and blows shacks over, starting fires in the process. A lot of poor families may be homeless by tomorrow. And if the wind turns, the rain will soon follow to add to their misery.sigh

Let’s be grateful for having a roof – no matter how humble - over our heads. Not everybody have that privilege.scold

I'm not sure how accurate this story is, because it comes from a British paper
that is known for not being accurate.
But so far, it is the source with the most information.

UK Residents Can Win a Good Night’s Sleep in World’s First BnB to Offer Actual Sheep-Counting
Embedded image from another site

Located near a hillside in dreamy rural Sussex, in a field full of the fluffy farm animals, a “sleep dome” is offering the chance to dose off counting real sheep. The small glamping outfit created by a sleep technology company will host two guests and feature a luxurious double-bed with views of idyllic surroundings from all angles.

After dinner and settling in for the night, guests will be encouraged to count the numbered sheep as they walk about their paddock before gently drifting off into a blissful slumber beneath the stars. Daylight will herald a guided yoga session and a breakfast full of locally-sourced food.

The ‘Shleep Sanctuary’ was created by sleep tech company Emma Sleep, and they have launched a contest offering two people the chance to try it when it opens in summer 2023. “The power of a good night’s sleep can’t be underestimated and it’s clear the nation needs it now more than ever,” remarked Dr. Dennis Schmoltzi, CEO at Emma Sleep.

More than a fifth (21%) of those polled have struggled to sleep due to worries over the cost-of-living crisis, while 23% have been kept up fretting about work.

That's definitely something worth trying!!! wine gnite sleep

It's raining mulberries, hallelujah !

Early yesterday morning about 2 am we had a deluge. It very briefly awoken me,
before rapidly heading back asleep
The large amount of water prevented me from playing softball last night.
.
One other result, was that it knocked a lot of ripe black mulberries off of a large tree on the side of my house.
There also, I have sugar snap peas transplanted there adjacent to a trellis
and I wanted to see how their growth is progressing this morning.
When I got to that side of my house, I noticed that the whole area was a carpet of fallen mulberries.
Thousands of them. A natural bounty. applause
There's tons more on the ground and way more still up in the tree.
The squirrels and birds love them.

So, I picked up a generous handful off the ground, rinsed them off with the hose and plucked the small green stem off of each of them.
I had not prepared breakfast yet, so I went inside and prepared oatmeal with a mixture; 1/2 mulberries + 1/2 grapes. Yum !

If you have never eaten mulberries, their flavor is not as powerful as a blackberry, not even as much as a blueberry. It's a subtle somewhat similar flavor to a blackberry, not as sweet either.
