Ayatollah Khamenei had a close relationship with the general, who was widely considered to be the second most powerful man in Iran.
The military commander was hailed as a martyr, and his successor swore revenge during the funeral ceremony, while chants of “Death to America” rang out from the crowds in the capital.
State-run news outlets reported that millions had gathered in Tehran, and images showed a sea of mourners, many wearing black and waving the Iranian flag.
“God the almighty has promised to get his revenge, and God is the main avenger,” said Esmail Ghaani, the Iranian general who will succeed General Suleimani as head of the Quds Force, the foreign expeditionary arm of the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. “Certainly actions will be taken,” he added.
General Suleimani’s killing has prompted fears of escalating retaliatory actions between Iran and the United States, and of a broader regional conflict. After the attack, Iran said it would no longer abide by a 2015 agreement to suspend uranium production.
Zeinab Suleimani, General Suleimani’s daughter, said in a eulogy that the United States and Israel faced a “dark day.”
“You crazy Trump, the symbol of ignorance, the slave of Zionists, don’t think that the killing of my father will finish everything,” she said.
The general’s funeral was attended by a broad swath of Iranians, including reformers who oppose the government of President Hassan Rouhani but who perceived the killing as an attack on all of Iran.
“I felt like he was our safety umbrella spread above Iran,” said Amir Ali, 22, a university student, of General Suleimani. “I felt safe knowing he was out there.”
The Iraqi government has begun to consider new parameters for the American military in Iraq after lawmakers voted 170-0 on Sunday in favor of expelling United States troops from their country.

A 28-year-old who helps the elderly (before they pass away) to re-home their pets, has celebrated her 100th adoption.
Angela Rafuse was inspired to create her charity after her 85-year-old grandfather died, leaving his cat, Mackenzie, without a home. None of Angela’s relatives had capacity to take on the responsibility, so she decided to take in the calico cat herself.
After a bad break up, Angela moved home to live with her parents in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and began sharing the basement with the feline.
“I was processing the grief and heartbreak of a breakup and losing my grandfather, but the only options left were taking her to a shelter or me adopting her. I had to take her.”
Although Mackenzie became very grumpy and hissed a lot, Angela soon realized the cat was just scared. It eventually warmed to her new owner after lots of love and attention, inspiring the Canadian woman to start a new venture in 2021. Angela’s nonprofit, ‘My Grandfather’s Cat’, facilitates adoptions of dogs and cats belonging to seniors who are either terminally ill or wishing to enter a retirement home.
While Angela and the tabby lived in her parent’s basement for 18 months, she started posting videos on TikTok. Soon the duo grew a following of 656,000 people—and many commented about how their grandparent’s pets had to go into shelters after they passed. “It was like a divine intervention. I knew this is what I should do.” “We had 30k followers at that point and I thought ‘I can launch it on TikTok, as there were so many people in need’.”
Angela’s launch date was May 18, on her late grandfather’s birthday—and since then it has brought peace of mind to 100 pet owners. “It gives me so much purpose in life—and I have an amazing team of volunteers.” Most seniors are referred to My Grandfather’s Cat by care homes or shelters. They submit an application and the team then writes a profile to post on social media. They then interview people who might be interested, and find out who is a good fit—and the senior has the opportunity to interview the family, too.
“The senior then picks their pet’s second forever home—and the adoptees can stay in touch with the new owner who will share updates.”
One case Angela will never forget is when she helped a woman who had terminal cancer and underwent euthanasia. “We helped her find a new home for her cats, Koko and Lily, and she chose a lovely multi-generational home with two seniors, their daughter, and grandson. “She passed away knowing her best friends had the best home.” It was the last and most important thing on her to-do list.
What a great comfort and inspiration this would be to anyone with a pet!

House Judiciary panel to set rules for Impeachment investigation - vote on Thursday

WASHINGTON — The House Judiciary Committee will vote Thursday to establish rules for hearings on impeachment, escalating the panel's investigations of President Donald Trump even as many Democrats remain wary of the effort.
The resolution is a technical step, and the panel would still have to introduce impeachment articles against Trump and win approval from the House to bring charges against Trump. It's unclear if that will ever happen, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has urged caution on the issue, saying the public still isn't yet supportive of taking those steps.
Even if the House did recommend impeachment charges against the president, the Republican-led Senate is unlikely to convict him and remove him from office.
Still, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler has said that the committee will move forward with impeachment hearings this fall, bolstered by lawmakers on the panel who roundly support moving forward. The vote on Thursday will set rules for those hearings, empowering staff to question witnesses, allowing some evidence to remain private and permitting the president's counsel to respond to testimony.
The committee says that the resolution is similar to procedural votes taken at the beginning of the impeachment investigations into Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.
"The adoption of these additional procedures is the next step in that process and will help ensure our impeachment hearings are informative to Congress and the public, while providing the president with the ability to respond to evidence presented against him," Nadler said in a statement. "We will not allow Trump's continued obstruction to stop us from delivering the truth to the American people."
The committee has also filed two lawsuits against the administration after the White House repeatedly blocked the panel from obtaining documents and testimony.
Pelosi has said she wants to see what happens in court before making any decisions on impeachment. She said Monday evening that she had signed off on the Judiciary vote, and "that's a logical thing for a committee to establish its rules of procedure."
The first hearing under the new impeachment rules would be with Corey Lewandowski on Sept. 17, the panel also announced Monday. Lewandowski was frequently mentioned in former special counsel Robert Mueller's report, which the committee has been investigating. According to Mueller's report, Trump asked Lewandowski to deliver a message to then- Attorney General Jeff Sessions asking him to limit Mueller's probe.
The committee has also invited two other witnesses mentioned in the report, former White House aides Rick Dearborn and Rob Porter. The White House has previously blocked former employees from testifying, but Lewandowski never officially worked for the White House.

“Purchased Friday. Totaled Saturday,” the Fairfax County Police Department wrote in a post Saturday after a Virginia man crashed his $300,000 car. The man totaled the car after driving too fast into a tree, NBC Washington reported.
Police shared a photo of the destroyed McLaren 720S, described on the McLaren website as a “ferociously fast” vehicle that also “gives you the ultimate balance of power with control.”
Unfortunately, it seems the vehicle’s owner had neither when he hit the tree just off the road in Great Falls, Va.
The driver was taken to a hospital after the accident, with injuries that were not life-threatening. The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, police told the Washington Post. The man was not identified.
The car wreck occurred as a result of speeding, and so police used the incident as an opportunity to remind drivers to “slow down.” They added, “it could cost you.”
In this case, upwards of $300,000.

USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA} director Scott Pruitt has finally resigned.
He should never have been appointed by Trump and should never have been approved.
It was no secret that Pruitt was in the back pocket of big oil.
Indeed, prior to becoming the EPA director, he spent much of his time
repeatedly suing the EPA.
Like Trump, he cares not for the welfare of the 99%, but primarily for $$$
and any way he can get it.
But, this sort of appointment by the worst US president in history is not uncommon.
Just take Department of Education director Betsy DeVos.
Yes, please, someone take her out of government.
She's never held an education job, and like Trump has no idea what she's doing.
She got the job, because her mom helped found AMWAY and donated lots
of $$$ to the Trump campaign.
Getting back to Pruitt. He did the opposite of protect the environment during
his short tenure as EPA chief.
He rolled back emission standards on autos and air pollution.
He also lifted bans on harmful chemicals.
But oddly, his resignation had little to do with the harm he has inflicted on the
welfare of humans & wildlife.
Instead, there are now at least 13 charges of unethical behavior during his short stay in office.
And his resignation will have little affect on the charges. They will continue to be determined in courts.
Unfortunately, Trump's replacement for Pruitt is in the back pocket of coal.
