What an average person can do to slow down out of control Global Warming

1, Use Less Electricity.
Most of the electricity that is sent to your house is produced by burning fossil fuels like Coal, Oil and Natural gas. The more you use, the more fossil fuels are burned to create that electricity. The burning of these fuels creates Carbon Dioxide CO2. CO2 is a Greenhouse Gas which acts like a barrier to thermal radiation while allowing the higher frequency radiation, light, to freely pass through. Simply put, visible light passes through CO2 unhindered, falls on the earth, people, pavement, roof tops, lakes and oceans etc. These things absorb the light and get warm and release this warmth in the form of lower frequency Thermal Radiation. CO2 is opaque to Thermal Radiation thus, it can't escape back out into space. The result? The temperature of our environment goes up. The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the more energy is trapped. CO2 is not the only Greenhouse Gas but it is the most abundent. BTW, Glass is also a very efficient substance for allowing light to freely pass but it's not very transparent to thermal energy. This is why a Greenhouse is made of glass.

Here's how to use less Electricity;
Turn lights off when they're not needed, same with ceiling fans. My house has 2 outside lamp posts. 1 is halfway up the driveway and the other is by the back corner of the house. They have a sensor which turns them on when it starts getting dark out in the evening and they go out when the daylight reappears the next day. They are very convenient for when you come home late at night. The bad part is they light up my bedroom like it was broad daylight so in order to get some sleep I have the close the blinds. That's not the worst part. Are you ready for this? Each lamp post has a 500 watt bulb. So they are normally on for 9 hours a night. Do the math, 500X2X9 = 9000 watts a day, 7 days a week. That comes to 3,285,000 Watts a year, 3 Million, 285 Thousand Watts. And guess who pays for that? It didn't take me long to unscrew the bulbs from these 2 lamp posts. If I need lots of light outside at night for whatever, I just reach up and screw the bulb(s) back in and the light comes on.

The Ring of Fire...

There will be a solar eclipse tomorrow morning, Saturday, October, 14, 2023 that will run in an 'S' curve diagonally across the United States, through Central America and sweep out across Brazil.
Starting around 8am in Oregon and goes to 10:30 in Texas. They are the lucky ones to see a full eclipse. With the exception of the the northeast, Pennsylvania to Maine are out of the path. More than half of America should see some of the eclipse.
It's called a ring of fire because some places will see a perfectly aligned eclipse where the sky will darken and only the outer edges of the sun will show through giving an illusion of the fiery ring.

Yahoo has a news story:

Time & Date actually have an interactive map showing the graduated areas of the most eclipse.

Always, there are warnings not to look directly at the sun, only former presidents can do that. Use a pinhole projector or specialized eclipse glasses. Always there will be reports of people losing their vision because they stared at the sun without proper protection.
Don't be a statistic.

Breakthrough discussion relating to SETI

It is 5 videos here. The concepts..

These are video excerpts of the recent Breakthrough symposium in connection with Project SETI (Search for Extra Terrestial Intelligence). As human technology has advanced since the 1960s, so too has the way the SETI program works.

Lineage of a bio-sphere. Looking in directions SETI hasn't done yet. Atmospheric traces of molecules produced by the manufacture of plastics for instance. Organic life vs inorganic life. Would we recognize life? How long does a civilization last? What is life? Do we truly want to create a self aware AI and droids to do our exploring for us? Do true AIs go through the Darwinian process and evolve away from the original design? Is the Darwinian process unique to Earth? How unique is Earth's bio-sphere? Are there other similar bio-spheres on other Earth like worlds or are their chemical processes unique to that world? The more extensive and expansion our search for other life in the Universe becomes, the more noticeable we become to other life searching. Is that a good thing? Etc.

1 Stephen Hawking in a presentation made for this summit, shortly before he passed on.

2 Martin Reese discusses the odds of SETI detecting organic or electronis intelligence?

3 What is life?

4 Inorganic life. Complex molecules are techno signatures..

5 Evolutionary traces in nonorganic computer programs (i.e., Artificial Intelligence programs) in response to changes in environment.

Question to ponder.. If we design self aware AI robot droids to do space exploration for us and build structures for us, then send them off into deep space, for how long will a self aware robot droid happily work for us, versus seek an independence from us and come up with a way of accomplishing that new goal?

Area 51 Nevada, USA.

Was Bob Lazar correct when he said that he worked on alien craft when efforts were made to reverse engineer the technology that was capture following crashed UFOs. He talks about a new element called 115 also known as moscovium. This was the power source to create incredible speed.
Area 51 was the site of his work before he left and tried to reveal the project to the public. The authorities denied his claim, even to the point that he didn't work there, but subsequently people who knew him confirmed his employment after seeing tax form with his name and work location.
Obviously another cover up by government.
Recently scientists confirm that they have discovered element 115. The apparent problem with this substance is the difficulty in producing it in sufficient quantity to generate it's power potential.
When that is overcome, then it will revolutionise travel. Maybe they have now achieved this but kept it secret.

got hospital?

I used to work for a custom cabinet shop that did a lot of projects for designers.
Typically, they would ask how soon they could get a wall unit and the boss would (sarcastically) reply "Quicker than you can write the check."

Earlier in the week, China announced they would build a 1,000 bed hospital in Wuhan city within 10 days as necessary for the corona virus.

The media in the first few days showed lots of photos and videos of earth moving equipment clearing land at the site. Several days of playing the same videos actually became annoying.

The due date is February 3. What's the update... got hospital?
Checking early today, I see the same photos from day one.

The whole world is watching.

Maybe they are on schedule, but if I were doing an update on the project I'd be using a new set of photos. Perhaps there is a holdup on funding...

Okay, later this evening, I found some updates.

Defying logic

Been and paddled kayak yesterday. Saw a female elk with 2 calves. Totally under impression.

But where is the logic?

So where is miss piggy

An Ancient frog species named after Kermit the Frog by scientists

Kermit the Frog has been around since 1955 – but a new Kermit on the block was actually around much longer ago.

Scientists have uncovered a fossil of an ancient 270-million-year-old amphibian ancestor, and named it after him.

Shit happens

A Queensland camper has made a momentous scientific discovery after taking a closer look at a hairy poo.

Entomologist James Tweed was chilling out in the lush rainforest that sits behind the Gold Coast's busy beaches a while back.

As he wandered off to clean his teeth, his gaze fell upon what he thought was a blob of bird poo, turning furry with mould in the humidity.

But it turned out to be Australia's newest creepy-crawly – a longhorn beetle so distinct from its relatives that it's not just a new species, but a whole new genus.

Thiiking out of the Box

Tis a pity science and scientists are considered a poor investment, because there are a lot of good ideas happening out there every day.

I choose not to defend this blog entry from Troll attacks. I have better things to do with my time. (have at it Vier)
