Smart TV's.

Bought a couple for the twins, and my thoughts were, another TV gimmick, to rob the poor.
But I was surprised to see that this is really an alternative to costly, vapid, cable, broadcast or Satellite TV.

UFOs now what?

Back when everyone started to carry a camera on them (cell phone)....the skeptics of UFOs would say, why are we not getting any pictures of them? Today, there are many pictures of them taken. Now what?

What is the next move for society?

Do we continue to just go on with life living literally in our own little bubbles.....or....our big bubble (the planet)? Or, do we now look beyond ourselves....our own species....and start to acclimate ourselves to others out there? What would that even look like?

I seen one documentary where they were saying that they want to understand their technology....harness it...and put it to use to protect our environment when it came to developing new energy. My thoughts to that was.....why?....so they can send us a bill in the mail for something that now cost them something even cheaper to make....to make a larger profit?

dunno

Perhaps if people could live free....not where government controls you....but where one can have access to the basic elements to life without being a slave to the powerful.

dunno

ANTIDOTE FOR CONSPIRATORIAL,,TRAITOROUS,SOCIAL MEDIA MENTAL WIZARDS....EXPULSION!

Within the last year or so a lot of the social media "clowns" decided they had sucked enough of the economic lifeblood from their customers worldwide, exploited their home countries economic opportunity to the hilt and......ALARMINGLY, have decided to enter into an incestuous relationship with our sworn enemy China for God only knows what advantage they can gain only to sharply tilt the dynamic and thereby seriously threaten our National Security! Set aside, for a moment, the militarily strategic position this decision could shape for the US in the future and focus on the blatantly TURNCOAT aspect these SCUM have demonstrated to their home country. They all were allowed tax incentives, loans, the ability to pick from the finest technological talent available to start their companies in the friendliest economic environment on earth to achieve all they now have! By way of thanks they figuratively give the finger to every single customer that ennabled them to prosper! We are currently in a situation where every single opinion, political stance and ideaology they disagree with is heavily CENSORED, they ASSUME to decide who thrives economically online etc...... This is TOTALLY unacceptable and I would humbly submit that after the first High Profile lawsuit, hopefully followed by many others, along with heavy and very SEVERE Government regulation these unappreciative, treasonous, traitorous lowlifes will be properly brought to bear! If not,I don't care how Congress and DOJ go about it but I honestly believe there is sufficient grounds to,under the auspices of National Security,Seize,(by any means available, these peoples considerable wealth, revoke their citizenship and EXPORT their asses to whatever communist country they aspire to! Technical Glitch

I was reading an old novel ... The plot was based on the background of 80's or before ...
It was a crime thriller , and the turning point of the whole thriller was a "Technical error" !! wink

You all probably remember that , before Mobile Phone , there used to be Land Telephones , through which people used to communicate with each other ... As the Telecommunication Technology was in it's primitive stage , many "Technical Errors" used to interrupt the service ...

One of such error was "Cross Connection"...

Well... As I never had any personal experience of this , so I can only try to understand and describe it as it was narrated in the Novel...

During a Phone Call between Two Caller through Land Telephone , sometimes some Third Party accidentally get access into the ongoing conversation ... Then it called as "Cross Connection" ...

As I am not a technical person , so I can't really say why this used to be happened !!

The closest thing I can relate to this , is "Wrong Number" !!!

As many times we get calles from unknown people and find out that it's nothing but a "Wrong Number"...
Though , many times , those "Wrong Number" calls look suspicious ... Like it was more of some kind of "Human Error (Preeplanned)" rather than a "Technical Error" !! wink

But anyway...
This idea of "Cross Connection" seems very interesting and dramatic to me (Though some may consider it as a serious Privacy issue) !!

Just imagine !!!
You and your Love , in the middle of an intimate passionate conversation over the phone , and suddenly you guys hear the sound of a deep breathing from an unknown unexpected source !!!!! laugh laugh

rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Lightening Siren...

I'm a half mile from the clubhouse of a golf course. On top of the building is a small weather station with a siren to alert golfers of lightening strikes.
It's pretty standard in South Florida where bad weather can jump up in minutes. I've read many of these systems are networked to larger weather centers that use sophisticated lightening detection systems and weather radar. When lightening strikes are detected, the siren blasts out a warning for the golfers to seek shelter.
Typically, I've got the windows closed, a/c on and louvers closed, so I'm not distracted by what's going on around the condo... but I do know it's going to rain when I hear the lightening siren.

I considered purchasing an amateur weather station when I lived in Miami and had a 60' high tower with a string of radio antennas. That must have been 20+ years ago when I was available as a first responder using 2-way radios to assist when a hurricane hit, power was out, phone lines down and no cellular service.

Life and interest changes for me that I'm no longer in a radio club to offer public service. There are many more resources now, so let someone else invest the time and money for weather stations and inclement weather alert systems.

They are all around my area so I don't have to look too far to find one:

Computer Upgrade... at some point in time.

Upgrades come under a few headings. Do them or ignore them as it's not broke so I don't have to fix it. At some point in time I have to do an upgrade or two and the time is nearing.

I bought a few refurbished computers over the years and they appear to be okay for my normal use. My business computer was purchased new years ago with an older system using Windows 7 and some of the software I'm using requires Windows 10 to get all the features out of them.

The latest version of Google Chrome is like the kiss of death and email drags, times out and sometimes requires a refresh to function.

Time for an upgrade I've been putting off for a while. I bought a refurb and I'm busy migrating all my data and programs from the older computer to the new one. One main program that handles my PDF documents similar to Adobe cannot be moved. The company offered an upgrade that was half price, so I'm in the process of installing and setting up the environment that will take a few hours to accomplish.

Upgrades, sometimes you've got to do them!

Batteries...

Modern life would be very difficult without the use of batteries. Over the years battery technology had changed greatly with more power and less weight. Consider how hearing aid technology fueled smaller devices, iPhone ear buds go for hours on a single charge.
Probably the least improvement is the automotive standard 'wet-cell' car battery. Heavy, but supplied lots of high current.
Lithium-Ion and lithium-polymer batteries appear to be everywhere powering all types of electronic devices... especially cellphones.
The problem is they are volatile if mishandled. Overcharging a Lithium battery can cause an explosion with the battery emitting toxic fumes. A while back I read a story about a girl who shipped her phone between the mattress and pillow. This insulated the heat dissipation while charging. She was lucky it only smoked the phone and pillow. Other devices actually explode.
I order lots of batteries and the packages have warning labels on the box.
Airlines have restrictions for traveling with batteries. New generation cellphones are sealed, so you cannot tamper with the battery, but proper charging care is essential.

Amazing amounts of wasted bandwidth...

The IT department of the last company I worked at had more than 30 computers connected to their intranet that synchronized with a remote service over a fiber link. Huge amounts of data passed through their system. At the end of each business day it did an offsite backup that took nearly an hour. If you needed to use the system during that time you were guaranteed to wait for information stored on the server.

The technician warned everyone who streamed music that only low bandwidth services were ( like Pandora ) were allowed. That didn't stop employees from downloading YouTube videos. That presented two problems... the employees were watching videos and not working and the overall bandwidth use was very high.

The place I'm at now does the same thing on a smaller scale. Streaming music and videos. While some are out on appointments and client meetings, the music on their computers plays on endlessly. One coworker plays movie soundtracks and goes off to meetings. Knowing he's out, I stop the music. I'm there to work and not entertain myself.

In the old days there were bandwidth caps where the service was reduced to a crawl and you had the option to pay for more monthly bandwidth or be frugal and choke your business data because some plans had crazy up-charges for exceeding your quota.

I'm thinking what could happen when more people update their cellphones and get 5G models with 50 times the bandwidth capacity. 5G is advertised free but what happens when excessive use reaches your plan limits. It's time to call and up your limit... or end wasted bandwidth and save your money.

Apple Helps Chinese Communists Suppress Protests

Apple Helps Chinese Communists Suppress Protests – Removes Crucial Tool of Dissent on iPhones and Does Not Tell Mainland Users.

Sadly, the freedom protesters were not able to use AirDrop, a file-sharing feature on iPhones that allows users to share content in authoritarian states.

Apple removed the feature in their latest update in China and did not notify users.

Apple is working with the communists now.

Anti-government protests flared in several Chinese cities and on college campuses over the weekend. But the country’s most widespread show of public dissent in decades will have to manage without a crucial communication tool, because Apple restricted its use in China earlier this month.

AirDrop, the file-sharing feature on iPhones and other Apple devices, has helped protestors in many authoritarian countries evade censorship. That’s because AirDrop relies on direct connections between phones, forming a local network of devices that don’t need the internet to communicate. People can opt into receiving AirDrops from anyone else with an iPhone nearby.

That changed on Nov. 9, when Apple released a new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 16.1.1, to customers worldwide. Rather than listing new features, as it often does, the company simply said, “This update includes bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.”

Hidden in the update was a change that only applies to iPhones sold in mainland China: AirDrop can only be set to receive messages from everyone for 10 minutes, before switching off. There’s no longer a way to keep the “everyone” setting on permanently on Chinese iPhones. The change, first noticed by Chinese readers of 9to5Mac, doesn’t apply anywhere else.
