Starting to make that change - tomorrow!

I am typing this on the final day of the month, September 30th. Tomorrow, on October 1st, I am starting fresh with more healthy eating. To do that, I have bought a few ingredients that - hopefully - is gonna take me down a path of more healthy eating.

Change will not happen over night, but over several months. I don't expect to be a changed man tomorrow, just because I have started eating more salad and vegetables. The first thing I have to stop eating is chips. I eat way too many of them, but they're an easy thing to eat, but not very healthy or filling, so they have to go.

The next thing on my list: stop drinking so much soda. Switch it for water or flavored water. This step is undoubtedly going to be the hardest step, because I'm addicted to coke. Not the powder, but coca cola. I have been drinking it for over 35 years, so kicking the habit completely is going to be VERY hard - but very rewarding, in the end. Hopefully that will see an improvement on my overall body, as well as on my wallet. I bought 5 crates today, which sat me back 565 kroner, or about $80.

Every day at work, I drink 4 cans. The plan is to slowly bring that number down to 0. Some people might be thinking "What about diet soda? Isn't that better?".. I have heard somewhere that diet soda is worse than regular soda, but I am not sure if that's true or not. I might have to ask a nutritionist about that.

But - starting tomorrow, I will begin my quest for a healthier lifestyle. It's gonna be hard, but rewarding in the end!

Crossroads

I think I am at a crossroads in my life. Been there before and had to navigate my way through, seems like I will have to do the same again.

I got a reality check last week. Kidney specialist told me in no uncertain terms that I need to quit cigarettes and stop taking anti inflamatories for my hip and leg pain. I think the reality of it is hitting home, my kidneys are not good and it could cause problems for me later on. I don't need to make big changes aside from quitting smoking, but I do need to make those changes.

Like the man said. You can have fame, fortune, women, everything in the world but if you don't have your health, you got nothing. Its time to start treating my body better and get rid of the cigarettes and the anti inflamatories. Kidney dialysis is not something I think I would adapt to very well uh oh

FAA’s diversity push includes focus on hiring people with ‘severe intellectual’ and ‘psychiatric’ disabilities

The Federal Aviation Administration is actively recruiting workers who suffer “severe intellectual” disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website.

“Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government, as a matter of policy, has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring,” the FAA’s website states. “They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism.”

“Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritized DEI hiring over your safety?,” tech billionaire Elon Musk wrote on X last week. “That is actually happening.”

I say, flying could become a lot more fun in the future.

Evidence that Covid 19 was around in November?

A good friend of mine works at a hospital lab in a big city. Well, she does not play any direct role in the scenario, but she might have prompted indirectly some of the action to be taken.

Anyway, she has just informed....

Her mom's boyfriend was very sick in November. His doctor thought he might have lung cancer, but it was later diagnosed as pneumonia.

Just recently, in fact the results were gotten today. He and his doctor decided to test him for the anti-bodies of Covid 19, and his test came back positive.....meaning he has had Covid 19.


Well...either he had the disease in November, or he caught the virus later on and never even knew he had it because there were no signs he had it.

I am not doctor, but if I was a betting man (and I am) I would put my money on the fact he had the virus back in November.

So over getting older

I've had too many samples of old age recently and it is really grating my carrot. A molar broke - just broke! - and then I was deaf for a while, sheesh that's the pits, back to normal now. Then my eyes started blurring and I had to get specs and now my leg starts hurting when I walk my dog, will whoever is ill-wishng me just cut it the hell out, okay?

Someone, I think Bette Davis, said old age isn't for sissies. Another said after 60 it's just patch patch patch. I've never felt old before but yup as fast as one symptom gets patched up starts another. Off to the clinic, I'll be getting frequent flyer discount at this rate.

I'm a sissy. Take me now.

I wonder how many steps I walk in a year..

My phone keeps up with how many steps I take in a day, and calculates that into kilometers. Since I have had my current phone, I have walked 423.456 steps, or 296.42 kilometers. In USA measurement, 296.42 kilometers is 184 miles.

How long has my phone kept a tally of my steps? Since mid-may, so I have been walking 184 miles in two and a half months. Let's say I keep this up, just for the sake of making the math easy, I will just count it as 2 months.

The math is as follows: 184 divided by 2. That's 92. Then take the 92 and multiply that by 12. That means that by June 2024, the number of steps I have taken will equal 1104 miles, or 1776 kilometers. For reference: 1104 miles is the same distance from Burkeville, Texas to Dragoon, Arizona. It's quite a distance.

It's important to point out, that this is just a quick average monthly number. It can be higher or it can be lower.

The point is - I have walked 184 miles in two and a half months. Something I didn't ever think was possible, given that I am the laziest person ever. It helps that I have a job that I love.

How effective really is a mask?

By now, the science is settled: Wearing a mask is the easiest, least intrusive way to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Understanding why isn’t rocket science, but it’s not always intuitive, either. If you—or someone you know, say, a misinformation-spreading Facebook friend—are looking for a handy explainer, try this YouTube video from It’s Okay to Be Smart.

Viruses can be difficult to understand because they’re invisible to the naked eye, traveling inside water droplets on unseen air currents. With a technique called schlieren imaging, though, we can see these air currents, and that’s what It’s Okay to Be Smart uses to demonstrate how masks work.

The science behind schlieren imaging is a little complicated, involving a spherical mirror bending light in subtly different ways to reveal differences in density that would otherwise be invisible. It’s important to note that this doesn’t let us see viruses—they’re too small for that—but it does let us see how air flows when we exhale.

Using a combination of slow motion and schlieren imaging, the video reveals what a cough looks like with and without a mask. The differences are striking. The unmasked cough creates a massive plume of potentially virus-laden air, traveling much farther than you’d expect—about 2 meters, which is why social distancing means staying outside that zone.

A mask does two things: First, it captures much of the droplets expelled when you cough, sneeze, or breathe; second, any that aren’t captured have their momentum blunted, keeping them from traveling very far. That means less chance of infection for people around you. The bottom line is that masks work—and this is a good video showing you exactly why.

Just wanted to inform why I have not been here lately. I discovered at the end of November I have Brain Cancer.

50 lbs +

That is how much weight I have lost since last summer when I was diagnosed diabetic and started to eat right. The closest thing I can figure out is that I am sweating out fat. My a** is nothing but a bit of wrinkled hairy skin, skin folds and wrinkles all over my body. If I were to sleep with a woman now, the lights would have to go out, I am awful to look at now rolling on the floor laughing I know the skin will eventually go back tight again but its quite different looking at myself now.
