Pandemic Schmandemic--EIS, CDC, WHO... Medico-schmos....the lot....

....At the prestigious Vierk Institute, we of course specialize in the study of severe behavioral syndromes affecting reason and judgment, not to mention understanding, and the inability not to piss up the old kilt, ---such as TD-HD Syndromes. But we have a great infectious disease division as well, responsible for proving, among other things, that wanton unprotected anonymous sex by male homosexuals was the largest initial factor in the rapid spread of HIV-AIDs, as to innocent little Black girls, in sickle cell disease crises, and others, via the fago tainted blood supply. But I digress. Based on our vast experience as medical detectives, while we agree that this recent world problem is of course largely caused by the virus known as Novid 19, there are also strong factors that coincidentally correspond to the recent US presidential primary debates. It seems that so much PANDERing makes many sick, leading to vomiting (EMESIS), especially in those with preexisting conditions. This, we show, lowers the ability of the immune system to fight off these nasty little vuckers. Now that these global health organizations have finally declared that a pandemic exists, as of today, we really think other names apply. We suggest PANDEREMESIS, to better fully reflect the etiology. As with TD-HDS, we are hot on the tails of a cure.

What now?

Schools closed
Offices closed
Malls are empty
Events called off
Flights grounded
Economy down
Even international borders closed

People are scared to look at each other, forget touching..

But, hospitals are still open, we still touch patients to check their pulse and examine. We don't hesitate and walk 3 mts away if you have cold, cough and fever...

The only community which is at highest risk, yet not stepping back

Epidemics on the rebound.....

....many are familiar with anaphylactic reactions. These are immune mediated allergic type phenomena, often in kids. Kid gets stung, eats a peanut, or sometimes breathes in an allergen, and a potentially life threatening situation starts. Hives and other skin signs, but the killer is inability to breathe, which can be fatal in a matter of minutes. Things look so bad, that the rapid response to treatment is one of the miracles of medicine. What many don't know however, is that in a minority of cases, after the relieved family is back at home, a second attack happens, this time unprovoked. So, often, these days, kids are watched in the treatment center, and unit dose injection "pens" have been developed for self treatment. Individual patient issue. Switch now to populations, specifically the Novid 19 virus. Not entirely analogous, but the immune system is also involved. Public health interventions do work, such as isolation, mitigation and quarantine. And authoritarian governments excel. But after the dust settles, and community spread of infection stops, what's left? What's left is immune naive susceptible populations, in and outside of the original epidemic area. With the airplane mobility of modern life, a few infected visitors can start the whole ball rolling again. So we have our brilliant and dazzling President Trump's restrictions on visitation. But it all begs the question of other approaches. Indeed, in the UK, there's thinking that perhaps it's better, in the long term, to suffer more illness and even deaths on the front end, while population herd immunity naturally builds up. At least until effective vaccines become on line. Don't anyone hold their breath. Of course, each situation requires individual planning and response, but no one shoe fits all. And what about all those "wet markets", really wild animal emporia, in China and other parts of Asia, where eating bats and such is a sign of wealth? Things to ponder. Things to pander.

Pesky little virus !

I had an excellent workout at my gym this afternoon.
However, I learned that tonight they will be shutting down the gym
for at least 2 weeks. Dammit !
The last 2 months I have put on a lot of muscle working out at that gym.

I get home and read some emails and for at least 2 weeks, they have delayed
the start of my softball season (multiple leagues). Dammit !

Pesky little virus !! 178 cases of coronavirus now in New Jersey.

However, at least I haven't gotten it yet and I'm still very healthy.
People in their 80's have to be fairly nervous by now.

I hope they come up with an effective vaccination sometime relatively soon.

Well, all, it's now really fully in gear....

.....the public health approach to "flatten the curve" on the Novid 19 CHINESE, VERY Chinese, virus. Good thinking, as the same number of cases, but spread out over time, will help the health care systems not be overwhelmed, even in the back waters of the world.. Might, theoretically, also boost herd immunity, and cut the death rates. While we await specific treatments, and vaccines. Low level preventive approaches, and high tech science. What could possibly go wrong?
