A Fishy Story

Here is a little story I concocted for those who like a tale with a bit of mystery in it. It isn't based on true events, but rather on something that I once thought had happened to me, but then realised hadn't.

‘Are these your fish?’

Mary Lampton turned to see a small, shabbily dressed man holding out a sheet of newspaper with two fish on it.

‘No,’ she said, slightly taken aback, ‘they’re not mine.’

‘Really?’ said the man, who then turned and walked away.

Mary stood and watched as he made his way across the grass towards the boating lake, where a boy was throwing pieces of bread to three excited ducks. Nearby, sitting on a bench, were the boy’s parents, taking things out of a picnic basket, and the man sat down next to them.

‘Come on, Mabel,’ said Mary to the Yorkshire Terrier sitting patiently at her heels, ‘let’s go home.’

As she walked home, Mary thought about the oddness of the incident. It wasn’t the man himself, as odd as he was, but the fish; that’s what struck her as the really strange thing, because a couple of trout is exactly what she was planning to cook for supper that very evening.

Once home, Mary made herself a cup of tea, thumbed through a magazine as she drank it, and then got on with her domestic routine. Not long after six o-clock, Mary’s husband, Roger, breezed in from work. She was at the sink washing dishes when he walked into the kitchen.

‘Did you remember the trout?’ she asked.

‘Yes,’ said Roger, ‘I remembered the trout.’

Mary turned round to see Roger holding out a sheet of newspaper with two fish on it, and she had to pause for a moment before taking them from him.

‘Were they very expensive?’ she asked.

‘Actually, they were,’ said Roger, ‘I had to buy them twice.’

‘What do you mean?’ said Mary.

‘Well, I decided to have my lunch in the park, and I picked up the fish on my way. There was a funny little man sitting on my usual bench, talking to himself, which was annoying because I was looking forward to reading my book, and he was very distracting. Anyway, I put the fish and book down on the bench, and turned to get my sandwiches from my brief case; when I turned back, the fish and book had gone, and so had the man. I couldn’t believe it.’

‘In that case,’ said Mary, ‘you definitely won’t believe this,’ and she went on to recount her own brush with the strange man.

Just as they sat down to supper, the doorbell rang, and Mary got up to answer it. She returned with a slightly stunned expression, a few moments later.

‘What’s that you’ve got in your hand,’ said Roger.

‘Your book,’ mumbled Mary.

MyLonerLife

I did this last Friday.

I've a love for music with a day spent hanging around and videoing my friend's gig being a great way to spend the start of my weekend. Making videos is becoming one of my favorite things to do.

Me in my bathroom. You're welcome.

Me in my bathroom followed by a trip to the art gallery with some lawn mowing to finish the day - I know, riveting stuff.

Philipsenonline today!

The unofficial 2021 awards ceremony!

Hello, and welcome to the show! I'm your host, Philipsen. Before we get started, please note that this is my own personal list, and it might not reflect what you are thinking. Anyway.. Let's get started!

The first award is known as "Douchebag of the year". This award is given to the person, who I think deserves to be named DB of the year. There is only one nominee, and therefore, the winner.. Obviously.. Anyway, the winner is my former roommate.

I decided to award him this honor, because he's just a massive douche. If you need a reason why, go through my past blogs, but in order to save you some time, the main reason why I award him this award, is because whenever I did something, like leave a coke can on the kitchen counter, brush a fake plant with my shoulder or open the fridge a certain way, I was greeted with a mile long message about how expensive all his stuff was and how I need to take better care of his things.

The next award goes to Album of the Year. The nominations are: Slaughter to Prevail - Kostolom, Ingested - Stinking Cesspool of Liquefied Human Remnants, Gojira - Fortitude and Tremonti - Marching in Time.

This is a tough one, because all these albums were KILLER! But I decided to give it to Tremonti. Fantastic guitar playing and fantastic song writing makes this album so good!

The next award is for the luckiest racing driver of 2021.

This award goes to Jack Aitken, who crashed during the 24 hours of SPA. Video attached

His injuries were only a fractured vertebra and a broken collarbone. Insane!

There is still a few more awards to give out, so stay tuned!

Up next, we have the award for the single most stupid people in the World. It's us, the Danes! A few days ago, a story broke, that Danes have spent 450 million Danish kroner, that's $68.766.300, on fireworks this year. Yes, 68.7 MILLION USD on fireworks. It's only been on sale since the 27th, so for four days. That's $17.1 million PER DAY! It's absolutely insane!

Moving on to the best science application of 2021. It's the covid vaccine!

Next up: Best late night host of 2021. This is a tough one, and three people have been nominated: Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers and Jimmy Fallon. I thought long and hard on this one, and I have decided to award this award to Stephen Colbert.

That leads me into the worst late night host of 2021. That's easy, it's Jimmy Kimmel.

Moving on - nuttiest politician of 2021. Three people have been nominated. Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar. I'm gonna give it to them all.

We are now at the final award. It is for the weirdest collection of people out there. You know, the people whom you go "Are you well? Do you need medication? What is wrong with you..". Drumroll please... And the winner is... The Anti-vaxxers!

I decided to give them this award, because they are just.. Well, they are a bit nutty, aren't they? For the life of me, I can't see what benefit they are. They are actively trying to stop something that will end up saving a lot of lives! I really do not get it. Can someone please explain it to me?

Anyway, this concludes this years awards ceremony! I hope you had fun, and I hope to see you again for the next one, at the end of 2022!

Happy New Year!

Quantum Leap

I'm off on vacation for nine days, and yeah, it feels soooo good.

I ran into an old TV show that was on from early 1989 to spring of 1993. Watched about three hours of it on one of the newer networks this week, and actually watching the last hour of the third one tonight. I didn't forget how good the show was, but just watching some of the episodes I remember watching years ago is very nice. There had been some of these episodes that I haven't seen.

I sure wish that they would bring it back whether it's with Scott Bakula Sam), or a newer actor playing Sam. Dean Stockwell played Al, but the actor passed away a couple of months ago.

Who remembers Quantum Leap, and which episode was your favorite, or stood out to you?
