And Sometimes The Police Will Ask A Driver To Block An On Coming Speeding Vehicle That They Are Trying To Stop On The Highway That Will Not Stop...And With About 75 Feet Of Truck?....He Is Stopped In His Tracks When The Trucker Blocks Off His Way

To Even Get To Be A Big Rig Truck Driver?................Let Me Tell You ....................That There Are Dues That Most Drivers Have Had To Pay To Be Able To Get To That First Time That He Or She Are On Their First "Solo Trip"

1)Youve Decided That You Want To Be A Truck Driver....Ok...1st Thing You Have To Do Is Go To The Registry Or DMV And Get A Book To Study Because There Are 3 Written Tests That You Must Take In Order To Get A Driving Permit.....You Take The Tests At The Registry,,(About 10 Bucks A Test)...And When You Finally Pass Those Tests? You Are Given Your Permit

2) Now That You Have Your Permit?....You Have To Get Enrolled In A School...These Schools Can Be A 6 To 1 Year Period.....When It Is Time? The State Or In Some Cases The School... Will Give You The Driving Test...Youre Allowed Up To 25 Points For Mistakes....If You Go Over? Youve Failed... And Have To Take The Driving Test Once Again.........And Eventually?.....Youve Passed

3) Now You Have A CDL (Commercial Drivers License)....But That License Is Basically Worthless...Why?
Because You Have No Experience...Now?...You Have To Contact A Major Truck Company That Will Take You On As A Trainee...Such As Werner...Western Express...Schneider..Swift Transportation And So On...For Me?..It Was A Bus Ride From Providence Rhode Island To Werner Enterprises In Pennsylvania...And Thats Where One Starts To...... "Pay Their Dues"

3) When You Arrive At The Company That Takes You On?....You Go Through A 4 Or 5 Day Orientation
After That?...You Are Going To Wait For A Trainer To Come And Get You.....And Youll Have To Go With That Trainer And Do What He/She Says.. Live In His/Her Truck For About 6 To 8 Weeks...And During That Time? Youll Be Trying To Sleep While He/She Is Driving... As He Or She Has Their Radio Going...(Never Mind That Youre Trying To Sleep In A Vehicle That Is Constantly In Motion) Some People Cant Do It And Quit Because Its Hard For 2 People To Live In A Truck....And The Truck Is "His/Her Truck".....(I Honestly Dont Know How I Made It Through All Of That Hell)

4)Finally?...The End Of Living In That Hell Comes To An End...And The Trainer Usually Passes You... And You Then Get Dropped Off At The Company's Nearest Terminal.....Now? You Have To Wait For A Truck To Be Available

5) You Finally Get A Truck...And Are Sent Out On Your First "Solo Run"
This Is Where You Begin To Add Up Your Days Of Having Experience..(And The New Driver Has No Idea What He/She Is In For)...(And Some Of Them Quit When They Realize It)..And Before You Can Try To Go Somewhere Else To Work? Youve Got To Accumulate Around 6 Months Of Driving Experience

So...This Is What Just About All Big Rig Drivers Had To Go Through In Their Lives To Get To Where They Are Today

What Are The Dangers Of Driving The Big Rigs?........................You Name It People................ And That Is What We Face................ Each And Every Day Out Here..................Its Almost Like Being A Man Of Law Enforcement
Just Like A Cop?.....We Dont Really Know If Were Coming Back....Below Are Some Of The Reasons Of Why

1) ( :Insurance Fraud")................There Are People Out There That Will Suddenly Stop On A Dime In Front Of A Truck... And Of Course.... The Truck Cannot Stop Like A Four Wheeler Can... And The "Four Wheeler?" Gets Hit
Or... The Truck Driver Swerves To Not Hit Him...Goes Off The Road.... And Gets Injured... Or Possibly Gets Killed..(In The Latter Of The Two Scenarios?...The "Four Wheeler?"...Keeps On Going.... And Is Gone

2) (No Reverse) Drivers Do Have A Reverse....But It Cannot Really Be Used Much... As A Driver Cannot See Very Well If He Or She Has Made A Wrong Turn To Back Up...As A Big Truck Needs A Lot Of Room To Be Able To Turn Around? He Or She Must Drive Sometimes Up To 20 Miles To Find A Place To Turn Around...(And God Forbid That That Wrong Turn Doesnt Lead He Or She Into A "Bad Area"....It Could Be The End Of The Line For Them...(If You Get My Drift)
Because The Brake Lines From The Tractor To The Trailer? Are Made Of A Sort Of Plastic...And If They Are Cut?
(Which Isnt Very Hard To Do)
Then?...The Trucks Brakes Become Locked..And Youre At The Mercy Of What May Be Outside And Around You

3) ("Robberies")...(This Actually Has Happened Many A Times)....Its Night Time...And Youve Stopped At A Red Light....A Group Of "People" Run Up To Your Truck Throwing Bricks Through All Of Your Windows..In A Flash?
You Have A Gun Put To Your Head....You Are On Your Knees Outside With A Gun Pointed At You..(Not Knowing If Youre Going To Live Or Die...While They Rob You Of Every Last Thing That You Have...(Youre Lucky! They Didnt Kill You And "They" All Run Off"

4) ("Run Away Ramps")...When A Truck Loaded With At The Least 40 To 46,000 Lbs (Adding Everything Else? Its A Total Of 78 To 80,000 Lbs. Is Going Down A Grade Thats 2 Miles Or More?...The Truck Driver Must "Stab" The Brakes To Slow It Down Every 10 Seconds Or So
Each Time Those Brakes Start Heating Up...And Eventually The Heating of The Brakes Expands The Hub That The Brakes Go Up Against To Act As Brakes Should....If This Is Done For Too Long?...The Driver Eventually Will Have No Brakes....And The Truck Keeps Picking Up Speed...If The Driver Is Lucky Enough To Not Have Hit Other Cars On The Way Down? He Or She Eventually Gets To The "Run Away Ramp" On The Right Side of The Highway...(The Run Away Ramp? Is A Sand Road That Is About... At The Least? 1 To 2 Feet Of Sand..Which Stops The Truck In About 100 Feet Or So (If The Drivers Heart Hasnt Stopped Before That)

5) "Empty Trailer")...If A Truck Driver Is Going Along On The Highway...And His Trailer Is Empty?....The Trailer Essentially Becomes Like A Boats Sail......And When The Winds Are Blowing Like Hell Out There?...Many A Trucks Have Been Blown Over... And Again.... A Driver Will Get Hurt For Sure.... Or Possibly Killed

Cut Off That Breakdown Lane Halfway And Their Screwed...(Its Great Hearing Them Blow Their Horns And Theres Nothing They Can Do About It!!)..."Oh The Power One Has With A Big Rig!!!"

To Find A Place To Stay.... And Im Not Getting Paid Either Because Most Of The Drivers Like Me?... Get Paid By The F N Mile

Then Theres The State Cops Out There Hiding On The Highway...Just Hoping A Truck Will Go By With An Infraction...Like A Cab Light Out... Or Something Like That .... So They Can Stop You..... And Then The Driver Loses At Least An Hour While Mr Law Goes Back To His Car To Write Out Your Ticket That Usually Involves A Fine Too...Possibly... Points Off Of Your License

Then Theres The 4 Wheelers (Cars) That Give You The Finger... Or Cut You Off...Or Stop Suddenly To Give The Driver A Hard Damned Time.... (Not Realizing That They Could Get Killed In The Process),,,And if There Is An Accident Because Of This?...Its Always The Truck Drivers Fault...(One Would Say....But You Have That Dash Cam?!)....Well...Even With That Dash Cam?...The Car Driver Will Get A Lawyer Anyway And Sue The Trucking Company For So Much Money That The Trucking Company Will Settle With Them Because Its A Lot Cheaper For Them Than To Hire A Lawyer And Go Through All Of That Litigation.......And Not To Mention That Even If Its Not The Truck Drivers Fault?
He/She Still Has To Take A Drug Test Within 24 Hours....It Then Ends Up That The Load Will Be Late...The People You Work For Are Mad At You...And of Course The Consignee Is Complaining To The Company You Work For
