I use to think everything happened for a reason and thinks often went full circle.

I no longer do.....

Bad things happen to good people for no reason...

Life is a mystery......

I don't believe in Fate and Karma....(at least not all the time..)....I believe the cosmos is a place of random and senseless occurrences, with no meaning or design, but that existence can be illuminated and enriched by random acts of kindness and spontaneous flashes of unconditional love. The universe is like a box of chocolates...with a very long shelf life..

No, not like that, though I have found that in all that happens we can make reason.

If I get stuck on an airport because of sever delays in the traffic I prefer rebooking that connection flight to a much later hour and go somewhere in the town where I am and enjoy the break.

I would have had to reschedule most things anyway, why not simply do it properly?

No, not everything happens for a reason, some things just happen. We do however have choices, and things happen because of those choices.
I don't think life is predetermined, or believe in fate or destiny as ruling our path. We make our own destiny, and often coincidences may look like divine intervention, or the hand of fate, but I think that's all in our heads....like a lot of other fluff.laugh

Well at the risk of being pedantic, I have to put it this way. If we were omniscient, then we might know the reason for everything that happens around us or to us.
Not being omniscient, we can only ask ourselves why the hell that something had to happen to us, but we will never know why.

I don't believe that there is any order in the way things happen, but I know for sure that so many bad things happen to us, that no matter how many good things happen to us, we are always questioning ourselves why there is so much suffering and so much bad all around us.

Think you´re right kid. It´s also easier to blame the hand of fate or say something was destined to be, for crappy choices we make, rather than accept we were just plain stupid.

Hang on, I think that´s practically what you said wasn´t it...

Well, I do not believe that anything is a "co-incidence" as such. To me, everything happens for a reason - that there could even be a pre-ordained time-table in place?

My belief about "bad" things happening is that one needs to try and see what one is being taught ... what can one learn from the occurence? There is usually a lesson to be learnt - sometimes something minute, and sometimes something quite life-changing .....in ones thoughts, ways, habits, whatever.

Not wishing to bore you all to the usual tears invoked at my postings - I relate some minor incidents........

Once, not lighting my cigarette saved me from a brutal farm attack.

Once, a few seconds pause while I dithered on a journey saved me from having someones tyre slam thru my windscreen on the autobahn.

Once, having a tyre blowout on a journey saved me from having a bus career into the front of my car - just over the next hill.

Once, on a motor-bike rally trip approaching a hill my sudden dire urge for a cigarette brought me and my bike gang to an abrupt halt while the other bikes sped past us. Over the next hill, all the bikes had piled into a massive accident on the downslope!

So ... I like to believe that everything in my life happens for a reason.cheers

Interesing smoky. So do you believe that happened because of 'luck?' Was that the reason?

What do you think the reason was?

Well, I have ordered my Death-Bed Scenario and am not destined to die in a gruesome road accident or be hacked to pieces by a panga-wielding nut-case.

I believe in the "as you think, so are you" scene.

Does rather hey?

In the case of the farm attack, if I`d not been sitting outside in the dark holding my smoke without lighting it, I would not have heard the small sound of a twig being brushed against that alerted me to the fence being pulled down.

If I`d lit the cigarette my night vision would have been altered and I`d not have seen the dark skin behind the fence and the hands working the staples out.

If I did not decide to have that last smoke, and had gone to bed, the intruder would have been undetected till too late.

So, actually, it was the UN-lit cigarette that saved me.
cheers
