DynamiteLuv: How come Atheists do not believe in God?
Before I get started I will tell you that I am a believer. Now, Christianity gives a complex and mixed message to people. Beautiful, wonderful unconditional Love and caring. Hanging by a thin thread over Hell's abyss. Acceptance and nurturing, a promise of Heaven. Eternal torture beyond the imagination if you don't do exactly as the Bible thumping, rule quoting preacher demands. Celebration of individuality and diversity, (as long as it meets THEIR expectations). Pretty confusing, huh? any more question as to why some choose not to believe? (I believe out of faith in Him, not out of being afraid of a preacher. Get it?)

I DO get it, but you have no more reason to believe than anyone else.
Makes no difference why.
If you have no evidence for your claim, then it falls into the realm of superstition.
elsson: Sorry I am an Atheist from a non religious background, both parents Atheist and agnostic, I read the bible through indoctrination from school. Have you read Das kapital?? How many books are you going to read before you make your mind up about your, religious, social and political views to be formed?? I think I have read Kapital and the Bible and not going to condemn your beliefs but no more or less than me your were conditioned. You by the church me by the the Trots, we have our views but they were both based on theory. My belirfs in my mind are tangible the christian is faith. I prefer to trust in the tangible in my lifetime not a hope off finding some kind of eternal spiritual belief. Look at so so so many anonomilys in all religion.
I prefer the tangible as well. But my Christian religion asks me to accept a great deal on faith. Some things I do, others I do not. I am not good at following arbitrary faith based rules. But I do consider myself Christian - with tendencies to absorb ideas of other faiths into my thoughts and acts. I am Christian partly because I was raised a Christian and I agree with the Dalai Lama that it is often best to practice within the religion that raised us. I am also Christian because I love the bible, the New Testament, and what it teaches. I veer from many Christians in that I do not take many of the stories literally in the bible - including those from the life of Christ. The men who wrote those stories? Who was to stop them from incorporating legend material from the pagan faiths that existed at the time...... no one. That does not, to me anyway, diminish the wisdom and loving life path described within those pages. Thou Shalt Not Kill. Ya. a commandment, and a law of man as well at least in modern nations. To a Christian, to me, it also means that thou & thee shall not kill every single day by word, by deed, by slight of hand or insult, theft or cruelty. One can "take a life" in many ways. So I guess I am a thinking Christian, knowing full well, my friends, that Jesus in todays world would be a felon.
rohaan: Oh come on sweetheart, just as those don't want to believe, I can believe if I want. Don't take that away from me. thanx

Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven , God went missing for six days. Eventually, Archangel Michael found him on the seventh day resting. He enquired of God, ’Where have you been?’
God pointed downwards through the clouds. Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, ’What is it?’ ’It’s a planet,’ replied God, ’and I’ve put LIFE on it. I’m going to call it Earth and it’s going to be a great place of balance.’ ’Balance?’ inquired Michael, still confused.
God explained, pointing down to different parts of the Earth. ’For example, North America will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while South America is going to be poor; the Middle East over there will be a hot spot, and Russia will be a cold spot. Over there I’ve placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people.’
God continued, pointing to the different countries.
This one will be extremely hot and arid while this one will be very cold and covered in ice.’
The Archangel , impressed by God’s work, then pointed to another area of land and asked, ’What’s that?’
’Ah,’ said God. That’s Scotland
, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful people, good football teams, and many impressive cities; it is the home of the world’s finest artists, musicians, writers, thinkers, explorers and politicians. The people from the Scotlan are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they’re going to be found travelling the world. They’ll be extremely sociable, hard-working and high-achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as speakers of truth.’
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, ’What about balance God, you said there will be BALANCE!’
God replied very wisely,
’Wait till you see the bunch of tossers I’m putting down South! Tee heee heeeeee

openchick: Yip, the actual decalogue doesn't say that you shouldn't kill, only that murder is wrong. There are also some other strange things in there.
Strange how she accepts that some things don't make sense and absorbs other beliefs, but can't absorb fact.
The FACT is that there is no reason at all to believe in a god.
If there is no evidence of a god, then believing in one anyway is just a random superstition.
A hope belief, instead of one based in truth.
not like i just disovered a new planet or anything...
..... but me thinks you should change your name to intenseopenchick !!!!!

Semantics as it has been translated and translated to nobody knows exactly what it said, how many generations before the brothers grimm are believed? Aesop wrote good fables, now why was the bible not just a few Aesops doing an anthology??

Christianity borrowed everything it believes from ancient pagan religions. Death and ressurection, crucifixion, Christmas, the Last supper, Baptism by water, salvation, eternal life, heaven and hell, the list goes on.
In response to: Who was to stop them from incorporating legend material from the pagan faiths that existed at the time...... no one.
This needs more attention. The Bible says no one can add or take away from scripture. Yet we know these facts to be true:
Mark 16 :9 - 20 is a fabrication and an addition to the Gospel.
John 8 the famous "He who is without sin" story is a fabrication and added to the origional texts.
John 5 :7 is not in early texts.
And many more.
Even supposed mentions of Jesus by first century historians are fabrications. Josephus is the prime example...The statements regarding Christ were added by a scribe.
St Jerome admitted that lying was a part of winning converts. So did Martin Luther and Esubius.
Even Pope Leo X said "What a great profit this fable of Jesus has been for us."...Paul himself...author of 50% of the NT admits to lying to gain converts
If we can find ONE addition/interlopation, then who knows how many MORE there are?
Find one, and the entire book demands scrutiny and cannot be taken as authoritative.

Because there is absolutely no evidence, no reason, no demonstrated that would suggest that he is any more than a character in a book.
Why do you not believe in Thor?
