Ok... here's one about my childhood...

My mother is a "Jehovah's Witness" and she has been trying to convert the whole family for 41 yrs (unsuccessfully) confused
yeah... go figure!!

I remember going door knocking with her as a child and was often confronted by irate residents ranting and raving for us to leave their property with some resorting to hosing us, throwing stuff, slamming the door in our face etc.., if we didn't leave immediately.

What do you do, not do, when religious fanatics come knocking at your door to preach?? Do you get into it with them or take offense etc..,?? What about being on my side of the fence?? Anyone with similar experiences??

Hi marie wave interesting thread ..

Personally, I have no problem with this. Years ago I might have felt a bit indignant as I have my own faith and felt that those people were trying to "indoctrinate" me into theirs .. but I've never found it necessary to be rude.

Over the past few years though I've felt that the reps/missionaries from various churches that do pop by are simply wanting to pass on their goodwill and there's been times in my life when I've found that pretty comforting.

Although I've not actually invited anyone into my home (they're still strangers after all, just like the people flogging stuff) I've often had a chat at the door or as I'm working in the garden out the front.

I actually think they have a lot of guts, given the reaction that they'd get from a lot of people .. but they are people too and I personally don't feel that anyone deserves the treatment that they receive; a simple "No thanks" is enough, surely dunno

I've usually said I'm Buddhist and don't believe in a one god, but that usually seems open a conversation i'd rather not have, and when it gets to read this i decline as i don't like throwing others peoples teachings in the rubbish as i get negative karma from that. Usually ends about then.

Another i just been dealing with another, stunningly beautiful, mid forty's lady from the 7 day...comes with lovely photo suit, extremely pleasant, and pleasing to the eye, displays almost all her finer points while chatting with the cam running (almost all) all yours Robert just follow me, I'm going to a nice wedding tomorrow, I'll sent you some photos...you must be lonely living alone, what do you do with your time...
Answer, i don't listen to music, I contemplate /observe my mind, eat before two p.m. and study suffering, bound up in time the divorce is on its way again.
Really was stunning lovely lady, oh but the price far to high

Hi mariespoodles(love the name!!!)

I will share a couple of stories:

1. In my undergrad days in the early 70's, I was home at the time of 2 young Mormon lassies came to the front door of my parents' home, where I lived then. Wanting desperately for a break in my studying, I invited them in, much to my parents' horror.

They began to set up their slide projector, next thing you know, there was a full blown pic of Joseph Smith, American of-course...anyway, they stayed for ages, I made them cups of tea...had a great time(anything to avoid study!!!). Well, by then, my parents were about to slit their wrists, being Roman Catholic...seeing me having such a great time, asking so mnay questions(I was truly curious, simply because it sounded all too ridiculous!)...I think it took them several years to stop fearing that I woas turning Mormon. Then several years later, I started seeing this guy, who turned out to actually be, and unbeknowns to me, of the Mormon faith...My parents really liked him!!!doh ...but no way I could marry into the Mormon faith...so I had to let him go...Ya can't win!dunno mumbling

2. I have a dear friend, who one day, saw these 2 young men, oozing JW all over them...through his kitchen window. So he was well prepared for the good ol' knock on the door...So when they announced who they were, he screamed at the top of his voice, with the facial expressions to accompany..."I am the devillllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"...He said ya shoulda seen the look of sheer terror on their face, as they shot off up the street...!!! rolling on the floor laughing
