Steve5721: True mate...but been to them places too...but places like Greece, you can have the best of both worlds, interesting places to visit and then a few beers at night.
I guess it was in the nature of what I was doing out there, having a beer at night just didnt enter my head, I was in bed most nights for about 7.30. I did miss my bacon butties in the mornings though.
Steve5721: I don't think there is such a thing as that...and even if there was...who issues it?
Interesting question...it sort of depends on who you know; who (what organization) are with. First off are the various Intelligence agencies which should be rather obvious, be they Syrian, Iranian, Russian, Israeli,US, French, Libyan UN, etc.,etc. Then there are the various groups that are 'officially recognized' even if they are labeled as 'terrorist' be it the PLO, the Mossad, Red Army, etc. etc. Private citizens can obtain a valid permit within certain country and have it recognized in like minded States for a price to the right person, not some innocuous desk sergeant in a local police station out in some desert sand dune... Met some US 'mental Christians' once in Beirut who had permits from the US State Dept...go figure... For the plain ol' tourist, don't bother, you really do not need to have any weapons, if the need arises, locals always will come to your assistance and even risk their lives. It is their way, unlike in the western countries .
Pirateluvr: This is Liebe2's experience: You're both right. It was your OWN personal experiences so neither of you can tell the other that they are wrong or incorrect. This is how it starts ....every time. I would LOVE to go to a Muslim country for a visit. I would however, this time probably wear a Sari or Burkha. The last time I was a Muslim country, being very young and naive, I was not dressed properly and it was not comfortable. Shorts and a t-shirt didn't cover me enough to avoid the looks
I guess I should be flattered for you hunting my posts. Whatever!
Steve5721: I don't honestly believe that I would go to ANY country that didn't allow booze to be drunk in bars or wherever...or where a woman wouldn't be allowed to wear a bikini, or walk down the street in shorts and a tee-shirt.
I wear bikini here, but I drink home
However, Europe, here I come in 1 month to wear my shorts in the streets
isn't Indonesia a muslim country.....love to go there and see this beautiful Island country

We Brits go to Turkey a lot. It's warm, the sea is clean, the food is good and the booze is cheap, the sun shines and the people are generally friendly and hospitable. And it's Muslim.

oldfoxyguy: If you were planning on a vacation , would you choose a Muslim Country over a Christian Country ?
I would simply go a country,,because I wanted to go,,I would'nt be put off by religion at all.
I was in Pakistan in 1974,,and friend,,they were real kind,,generous and thoughtful people. great sense of fun and well mannered.
You should judge vactions by which country has been completely "pissed off" by America or the UK. Its political differences,,,that is what brings the danger.
Look at the amount of foreign visitors to New York in the 70's and 80's when there where NO GO AREAs,,,like Harlem,,and guns were ringing out in streets with alarming regularity. People still came to New York.
So if its got a beach,,good cheap food,,good cheap beer and gin,,hell,,go for it,,you only live once.

I wouldn't even ask myself that question but of course I'd stay out of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Marocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. And that still leaves a lot of nice places

Not quite correct old chap...Turkey is a secular country. Main religion is islam, but the country isn't 'muslim' persay.
I'd love to go there one day....but I already live in a land of plentiful sun, sea and cheap(ish) booze!
