This weekends football fixtures have been decimated by the weather. It's not because of the condition of the pitches, more the conditions around the grounds. In many cases there has only been a couple of inches of snow fallen but the local councils or the police have insisted the games could not go ahead.
Now I've just heard on the radio that there has never been a football game postponed in The States because of the weather...could this possibly be true?
Im not really in to football but i I believe , I know Ive caught glimpses of players out there in the snow freezing there arsses off and thinking i cant believe they didnt cancel the games. Fans are pretty card core maybe they are afraid of riot if they did
Yes, there has been games that were postponed due to weather. The officials did not want fans traveling in extremely bad weather and risking their lives. I can recall a game in Chicago many years ago when the game was stopped just after halftime because of heavy snow. There are also baseball games called or stopped because of lightning.

Probably not never postponed and it depends what level the game is. I imagine the professional teams all have covered stadiums to play in. Not sure about college football. Local teams probably do get their games canceled. Of course, I don't watch or pay attention to football in America or anywhere, but I think most big cities have covered stadiums.

No Bodleing, that's not true, though it's rare, there was an NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and NY Giants canceled due to bad weather on December 12, 2010, and the roof of the Metrodome collapsing under the weight of snow. The food vendor Aramark then turned around and donated all the food prepared for that game to the local shelters and food pantry.

The start of games have been postponed because of thunderstorms in the area. They feel lightning is dangerous. In the event of winter weather, other than that Giants-Vikings game this past weekend I am not sure.
If you want to do research, check Cincinnati because a long time ago it was really cold there and a playoff game had to be played in an outdoor stadium. The temp was something like minus 37F
If anyone remember that Raiders- Patriots playoff game from a few years ago in the snow, it has changed the way the NFL will schedule games. They go out of the their to put the Saturday night prime time game in a cold weather city because they know that will attract ratings. It wreaks havoc on the players, but what about the 50K people in the seats.

RWWizard: I think that's really cool. A true meaning of helping the less fortunate. I salute them.
Altruism doesn't exist in the corporate world IMO. I salute the Cost Accountant who determined that they would save about $350.00 in disposal costs, along with getting a 100% tax write off for the cost of the food, or if he's really clever, an even bigger deduction for the loss of revenue from the food at the retail level. Add to that the goodwill benefit from looking like Robin Hood. Why it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even take a big tax benefit for a charitable contribution on top of everything else. Call me a cynic but like "Afroman" says "F The corporate world."

Could not help but think of this one upon learning that the Vikings-Eagles game was postponed because of the blizzard. That was almost prophetic Bodleing!!!!

I remember many years ago (not online) seeing a clip from a baseball game when lightning struck the ball in mid air. I've recently searched for this but unsuccessfully. Has anyone else seen it, or was I dreaming?
