Without a doubt, and they know it.Even at this moment,i bet they are busy arranging a standby exit, with all thier belongings, and stolen wealth!
They also have families, and that is a strong bond,to keep them safe,so thier loyalties could change pretty quickly, which would be a good thing!teddybear lips

leigh2154: WWW III sounds a little extreme for right now RD....the core of Arab problems has been there acts upon others creating "forced" intervention....and not about oil, any percentage.....one life is one too many.....

OK, going back over history the core Arab problem has been religion and not the West, and that they hate their neighbours Jewish guts and if they were left to get on with it they would probably annihilate each other.

But this war would effect oil flow and production which the west wants/needs, also access to the Suez canal, which is most important for trade, so in order to keep the ME peace they supported and helped put in place strict rulers and gave financial incentives, these rulers could then afford torturing secret police forces to rule and suppress their peoples by fear and dictatorship and also through a controlled and limited economy.

The west has conveniently turn a blind eye to the propagation of true democracy in the ME for their own advantage. Democracy being the war cry of battle when justifying occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. A blatant hypocrisy.

These mixed self serving principles are as clear as day and the people of the world are awakening, the Arabs first. I heard someone say that this is perhaps the start of WWIII, but perhaps one without guns. What an wonderful ideology that would be.

Eastern Libya is no longer under Gaddafi's control, rebel soldiers in the city of Tobruk told a Reuters reporter there.

Tobruk residents said the city had been in the hands of the people for three days. They said smoke rising above the city was from a munitions depot bombed by troops loyal to one of Gaddafi's sons. There was the occasional explosion.

In response to: IMPORTANT NOTICE - American aircraft have been refused permission to land in Libya and two Catamarans are to leave Malta later today to attempt to pick up U.S. Citizens. The two high-speed ferries which take an average of 400 passengers each are to leave Valletta Harbor early afternoon on to Libya.

If you know or are in contact with any americans in Libya please advise them to head to As-shahab Port immediately. The State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs is advising that persons wishin to board should be there possibly after 9 a.m. and no later than 10 a.m. However since the ferries will leave in the afternoon, people can still make it.

The State Department said boarding the vessels would be on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those with medical emergencies or severe medical conditions.

Travellers would be allowed one suitcase and one small carry-on item. Those who want be evacuated should be prepared to wait several hours and take food, water and other necessities to the pier, which is on the sea road across from the Radisson Blu Mahari Hotel in Tripoli.

Assuming the ferries are allowed to dock and to subsequently leave, they will head back to Valletta harbor where flights to other countries may be arranged.

TOBRUK, Libya – Militiamen loyal to Moammar Gadhafi clamped down in Tripoli, with the sound of gunfire ringing in the air, while protesters who control much of the eastern half of Libya claimed new gains in cities and towns closer to the heart of Gadhafi's regime in the capital.

Protesters said they had taken over Misrata, which would be the largest city in the western half in the country to fall into their hands. The military has also moved heavy forces into the town of Sabratha, west of the capital, to try to put down protesters who have overwhelmed security headquarters and government buildings, a news website close to the government reported.

International outrage mounted after Gadhafi on Tuesday went on state TV and in a fist-pounding speech called on his supporters to take to the streets to fight protesters. Gadhafi's retaliation has already been the harshest in the Arab world to the wave of anti-government protests sweeping the Middle East.

Italy's Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said estimates of some 1,000 people killed in the violence in Libya were "credible," although he stressed information about casualties was incomplete. The New York-based Human Rights Watch has put the death toll at nearly 300, according to a partial count.

Gadhafi's speech appeared to have brought out a heavy force of supporters and militiamen that largely prevented major protests in the capital Tuesday night or Wednesday. Through the night, gunfire was heard, said one woman who lives near downtown.

"Mercenaries are everywhere with weapons. You can't open a window or door. Snipers hunt people," she said. "We are under siege, at the mercy of a man who is not a Muslim."

During the day Wednesday, more gunfire was heard near Gadhafi's residence, but in many parts of the city of 2 million residents were venturing out to stores, some residents said. The government sent out text messages urging people to go back to their jobs, aiming to show that life was returning to normal. The residents spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.

But Libya's upheaval, just over a week old, has shattered the hold of Gadhafi's regime across much of the country. Protesters claim to hold towns and cities along nearly the entire eastern half of the 1,000-mile Mediterranean coastline, from the Egyptian border. In parts, they have set up their own jury-rigged self-administrations.

That quoted bit in red is not referring to Gaddafi himself but to the foreign mercenaries. The woman who is quoted as saying that is clearly refereing to the fact that their lives are now at the mercy of an unbeliever [being the mercenaries Gaddafi brought over from other African countries]
