You know, during the school holiday periods. It drives me crazy!
I return to the UK in July and August, partly because 45-50 degrees in Murcia is way too hot for me, and I usually teach "lovable" teenagers in an International school. However, even the budget airlines are quite expensive at thos time, and I think it is totally unjust that the airline companies exploit us in this way.
When I was married with young children we could rarely afford holidays abroad because of the price increases during the summer months, and now as a single teacher, with only the school holidays available to travel generally, I´m still suffering the expense!

major irritation for me too.. first so difficult to get some annual leave at that time, normally limited to two weeks and then pay double price on flight.. but, thats the time for me to get home for summer holiday and most of my friends, who are scattered all over the world are home too..

Not sure if there is a great difference of weather between England and Spain, but if you travel in the winter.......you will find that the rates are quite reasonable and it`s not generally as crowded {if you can}...For instance when you leave the Northern hemisphere in the summer you will arrive in the Southern hemisphere in the winter and vice versa.Typically the best rates are based on the prevailing weather in the destination country....

I don´t believe that "supply and demand" is always profitable.
Think of how many people without chldren who wish to travel during July and August yet find it impossible due to the cost. In addition, families who also find it restrictive financially.
No, I´m sorry, but the flight companies are trying to take advantage whichever way you look at it.

But I´m a teacher,so my holidays are during the school periods, Summer, Spring and Winter, when it is more expensive. I don´t think the weather has much to do with it.

Jan when I see the charges for air fare in Spain, England, Iceland, etcc.. believe me they are reasonable and you can get even the last minute ticket for very short money but our air fares here in Mexico they are very expensive all the time.
It costs me the same to fly from any city in Mexico to Mexico City as for flying from London to iceland.
Yanno ... I have this theory that is well respected among nations and big multinational companies of the world, that the more debt you're in the more you're worth ... they actually need you alive in hopes you'll pay up!
And the added bonus is that freaks don't steal or rob from the poor.
This .... I believe ..... is why gawd made plastic!!!

Well that goes without saying, heard it many times and never doubted the truth behind it.

I´m virtually worthless in this grand picture.
Then all you need do, is walk up to the flight kiosk, show them your card and do this They can raise their rates to hell and back and you can still get on their damn plane!!!

if you stayed in uk in the first place you would not have a problem
I Buy my Ticket always a year in advance....as soon i Know the dates when i have time off from work i head to the Travelagent.
For my Holiday this year I payed 1200€ for the ticket, if i check the Airline now its already gone up to 1800€ and i still have 6 month left before i go.
Mabye you can check out if that works with Flights from Spain to UK too.
Must admit this year I am travelling back to England from Vienna... and I have decided to do it by Motorbike... after looking at the cost of an Airline ticket from Vienna to Leeds Bradford or Manchester I will loose the best part of a day travelling only Direct UK flight goes to London!!! Also the cost of the ticket is around 400euro's give or take... Riding a bike is going to cost me at 1euro 60cents for a litre of petrol around 360Euro's there and back including the ferry. Granted I have to pay for a hotel on the way out but hey such is life and I get to choose where I spend the evening without being stuck at an Airport, in case a Volcano goes pop... it's going to take me around 18 hours riding give or take so say 20 hours in the saddle... when I get there I will have my own Transport and as my Parents live out in the sticks a bit saves time on public Transport. Also means I can go biking in the old places I know and see my fellow motorcycling mates... when the family have driven me mad I am not waiting on my return flight but leave when I want and on my return I plan to visit a friend and then head over to Berlin or Prague on my way home... Try doing that by air it would cost a fortune...
