Ive met people in life who would regard themselves as Patriotic.
But the older I get I see it means different things to different people. What does it mean to you and how has that belief impacted on your life? Your thoughts!!

For too many people, patriotism equals xenophobia. Love your country, and respect everyone else's rather than hate them!

Patriotism is about thinking that you're right and everybody else is wrong, just because of the country that you live in.

It underlies hatred, greed, prejudice and war.

We should be enjoying each other's differences, whilst recognising that not everything about an individual, or a culture, or a political system is perfect.

My idea of Patriotism is this:

Being proud to call yourself a citizen of that country, celebrating its achievements and history, pride in being lucky enough to have been born in that country..

Being a "Patriot" does not necesarily mean you agree with all your country's policies, agree with everything that is done or said in that country, but accepting that there is good and bad policy and the good outweighs the bad.

Not being blind to its faults, in other words but still being proud to be a citizen.

wave Jac, the author's question is, what does patriotism means to you.

I don't feel hatred towards any other country. My only hatred is towards terrorists.

Nor do I feel that anyone from another country is wrong just because they don't agree with my opinion. We all have differences in the real world and most specifically here in the forums but it doesn't create hatred, at least not for me.

If you think I'm going to fall for that, you're mistaken.

We had our own terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, who bombed a building in Oklahoma. I'm referring to all terrorism.

That's why it's called an opinion which you are entitled to. Conspiracy theories don't worry me or the people who believe them.
