It is important to accept one's nationality. Patriotism goes above and beyond the concept of acceptance though i feel it is healthy as long as it does not lead to animosity towards people of other nationalities.

This is it really, many seem unable to distinguish patriotism from nationalism, or even that to its extreme, jingoism.

In response to: Ive met people in life who would regard themselves as Patriotic. But the older I get I see it means different things to different people. What does it mean to you and how has that belief impacted on your life? Your thoughts!!
To my politics it means placing local interests above national interests, then placing national interests above international interests.
Personally, it's about respecting the history of my people and defining where my natural community lies. Which, for me, isn't in an abstract fancy - like the Socialist or Humanist believes - but within a cultural and core part of my being stemming from my own experience and the experience of loved ones.
Unfortunately, what Patriotism often means is keeping things as they are in the interests of a few. It can be purely reactionary.
Wonder if Canada would be interested in annexing some northern US states? I figure there is a lot of commonality and it would bring better government to the folks living there. They may even vote to join in.

wonder if canada would be interested in annexing Bangladesh because if canada does so, the hot weather of bangladesh will melt all its ice turning canada into a 'warm' country

Not really. We're all pretty proud of our country and how we formed it and, managed to make it work so well. Don't need to annex other places or countries.

We are the governmnet Jon and, pay for it by our labors. Nothing is free. And to show how lame some of it is, our own government leaders who tout it so highly have been caught seeking beter attention stateside.
Sides, we didn't have health care until Saskatchewan began a program in 1946 and other provinces began their own decades later so it can hardly be the reason why we became a successful democracy cut out of some of the harshest conditions on earth.

For years now I've been trying to talk people into trading Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or some of the Maratinme provinces off for some islands in the Carribean. No luck yet, but I don't give up easily.

Couldn't that be said by any people in any country ? Do you have any concrete reasoning why your gov health care isn't any good ?

Likewise here .....but because healthcare and surgery is so rediculously overpriced here that more are leaving the country for treatment and transplants etc.
