HuggerMan4U: I do not judge a person for their looks, income, job status, type of job, or anything else. People are who they are, and it's not for me to judge. Having said that, I am not as comfortable around rich people as I am around low/medium income people, and I think it's because rich people have a totally different attitude of privilege and power (think Bill Gates vs a homeless person on the streets, or my rich brother and sister-in-law.) Also, since I'm a churchgoing guy, I'm equally comfortable around church folks and non-churced folks alike.
your right of course.....i judge people by their hats......blues blues blues blues blues blues blues rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing laugh

Ho Bo,hope you are feeling a lot better now, post op etc.

My friends are from all walks of life, but funnily enough I find the rich ones far more accommodating than my middle class friends.

I guess those that have aquired wealth as against those born in to it,have a different take on life and are far more judgemental.j.m.o.[/quote]

I've noticed that before as well!!

I don't care where people have gotten their "degree", Uni or the University of life or how much money they have or not in their bank account, what job they do, and even less what car they drive if they have one!!

I care about how open minded, interesting, wise, talented (in whatever field) they are. How kind & respectful they are. How much joy de vivre they have.

I find small talk boring and couldn't spend more than a few minutes with someone who's only interests are work (work politics bore me yawn), TV, slippers and what's for dinner!!

Come to think of it, don't think I could stand either someone who DOES have an interest, but that's it!!! That is ALL they know how to talk about. Well may be I could stand it for a few minutes!! laugh

Well rounded people are good company for me!! And I'm not talking about their figure!! wine

Bodecia: Something that was touched on in an earlier post: acquired wealth and old money... People that were born with a Silver Spoon in Their Mouths are a funny crowd; often narrow-minded and sheltered from the Real World, but many times with wonderful manners and social graces. Acquired wealth types have worked hard, built up from nothing, but have a chip on their shoulders the size of The Trump Building towards those who were born into it.

Takes all sorts!

The wealthy (those born with silver spoon in mouth) crowd that I have known and know, to me appear far less narrow-minded, arrogant and judgemental (and snobbish) than those who "acquired their wealth later" (those with a chip on their shoulder) ... The latter appear more snobbish, arrogant AND judgemental because they still have something to prove ...

Or at least so I have observed ...

Makes sense...when you have always had something (money) how/why would it change you?....If you were born into a rich, arrogant family, chances are good you will be arrogant too....But when someone "builds" wealth there might be a greater chance for snobbery and arrogance...don't know cause I'm not rich....laugh wave

"Wealth" is relative and so is whether someone is considered "rich" or not ...

To the ones who're starving and homeless, the ones who live in the shanty towns are "rich".

To the ones who live in the shanty towns, the ones who live in the high rise rise building and have a job and a car are "rich".

To the ones who live in the high rise buildings, the ones who live in their own house with a garden, a better job and a bigger car are "rich"

Etc. Etc. Etc!!!!!

All a question of who's looking from where ...

Thats reallly what I was saying, yes. thumbs up

There are still some of the Silver Spoon Brigade who abound, and who are delightfully and blissfully aware of what on in the real world. They are cute and nicely amusing.

There are some, however, who have been so doctrinated all their lives that those who are less wealthy/less educated/less priviliged than themselves are lesser beings.

Those who have built themselves up from nothing can be extremely snobbish, yes. But I think it is partly because, having come from poor backgrounds some of them, they intensely dislike loafers, laziness and lack of ambition in others.

Some very wealthy Old Money folks I knew of in England were the opposite of arrogant. They were actually quite embarrased of their inherited wealth, did many charitable things to make up for it and kept a low profile.

So, as with all things, its wrong to generalize too much.

In response to: Are you a Social Snob? Do you pick your friends and dates based on their levels of education, their occupation, the type of car they drive, the area they live in? Do you even know you do it?Does it matter to you what your friends do for a living and where they went to school? Do you find that your social groups, if you have them, tend to be with similar "types" of people? Would you prefer not to date someone who has no college degree because you dont feel you would have anything in common with them?

In these days of chronic recession, it is amazing how many of us are employed in positions of "lesser" social status that normal; many are forced to do what they have to to pay the bills, so it is increasingly difficult to guage who has the better education - the local mailman or the guy in City Hall.

Robert Green Ingersoll once said:

"“It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.”

How true.

Additionally credit card debt is out of control: and many sufferers of credit card debt are in that situation because of "trying to keep up with the Jonses'" - buying things that will give the impression of wealth and status, like nice clothes, a nice car outside, etc etc.

In a so-called "Classless Society", after listening to others, reading articles and forming my own opinions, it appears to me that snobbery still runs riot in the world, whether it be toward lesser-educated, lesser-financially well off or those who live on "The Wrong Side of the Tracks".

Any thoughts?
...rubbish....all my friends on here can come and visit me.....do you all mind useing the trademans enterence......rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing grin

Some have built wealth in other ways than in money ....

How much of life did someone lose by being successful.....how much success was lost for living life?

Many self made rich may look at people as lazy, ect. ....but that is not always true....they simply value other wealths over money is all....

Who is to say which is better.....I feel mine is ...as I am sure others think theirs is..

TrueBlue1986: I'm an inverted snob.

I don't tend to care how educated, rich or succesful one is. However, anybody who was privately educated or has had some sort of gilded youth I tend to avoid as if they were a plague - not with every person mind you, but I generally find them nauseating, unserious and unwise to the World.

More than likely I see things this way because my favourite people are generally the aspirational Working Class. The only "elite" in my opinion can be those who tore themselves from nothing.

thumbs up A such young head for a shoulders.
