TrueBlue1986: Was good enough for my Dad and his Dad before him, and if I was on my death bed looking back on my life's work I don't think I could find anything more shameful than a life spent flipping burgers.

If i'd not studied as hard as I did when I was younger, i'd be grateful for a real job like that.

SOMEONE has to flip the burgers, serve in the cafes and bars, collect the rubbish, clean the sewage pipes, unblock the toilets and empty the sewage tanks, clean hotel rooms and office buildings, refill the shelves in supermarkets etc...

AND they deserve as much respect as any other person doing any other job!!! In fact ... They deserve MORE respect because their jobs are the ones that allow everyone else's life to be "more pleasant". That includes of course respect for anyone working down a mine for the same reasons!!

wine I raise my glass to your father and grandad!!

There is nothing worse than inverse snobbery, the envy of the have nots for the have. Because someone has worked and made a success of their life, they should not be the target of people who haven't.

Of course there will always be service sector jobs, but today there are too many of them, and not enough manual jobs. This is why China is wiping the floor with us and why your children face the bleakest future in 100 years, it is also why millions are losing their jobs at the moment and why our nations are bankrupt.

And, aside from the reality of today, I think many young people would actually prefer to work in a factory before working in Mcdonalds.

I think it's great ...never have I carped fished in this fashion .....but We love the international partakers...as we have always had

Not far from here they used to unload oil here and pick up wheat on the ships ...and as kids we often were allowed to go swimming off the ships ...I have swam with a lot of people from a lot of countries....even had a "Tour" of a Russian ship during the Cold war even ...

Now the ships pass us by for the great lakes....but they are great memories

That's not necessarily what inverse snobbery means, although it can be in its worst forms.

Inverse snobbery at its best is the despisal of the inherent nepotism within the social structure.

Common sense.

Unless you don't believe that having rich parents can help you get ahead in life, regardless of merit?

Oh having rich parents can be an advantage, but many people have made it without this leg up, and by the way the heuristic view is not always the right one.
