"There are relative and positive snobs.I mean by positive, such persons as are snobs everywhere,in all companies, from morning till night, from youth to the grave, being by Nature endowed with Snobbishness - and others who are snobs only in certain circumstances and relations of life"

by William Makepeace Thackeray - The Book of Snobs

Snobbery makes people to be ignorant;makes people appreciate more form than substance. Finally snobbery is a form of human misery, which makes people to be alone among so many people.
Snobbery is fashionable, many people aspire to "high society",luxury and money starting to lose their uniqueness. Not all people can be Donald Trump but that does not mean Trump is superior, because you can't be like him.The people must give up all ideas of superiority or inferiority and replace them with idea of uniqueness.I think people will appreciate more each other. I appreciate people who have common sense,no matter the level of education ; I don't like snobs and arrogant.

serene56: I've only read parts of it, but I seem to be detecting a pattern here maybe

My thoughts are that young people, in particular, should receive vocational guidance to attempt to steer them to a college or university degree that will ultimately land them a job, not something they can frame and hang on a wall

thumbs up

One of the worst types of snobbery are the Grammatical/Vocab Police..roll eyes

Sometimes, we all make mistakes in spelling, we type faster than our brains work! We know what we mean but it comes out wrong!

It doesnt make people stupid or ignorant, however.

Do you really think tax money needs to spent on training people to serve burgers? Is the average person really that spasticated to even need anything more than an hours in-house training to perform a job at Maccie D's?

And it's not snobbery to know that if we train the youth to serve burgers we'll soon see our economy completely ruined.

We don't need fast food joints and useless jobs such as in telesales, instead we need car plants, factories, mines and steelworks. We need to take back the real industries that built both ours countries. The youth needs honest work and proud labour that also doesn't require a degree.

I agree with your post to a degree (no pun intended), but many of the vocational courses MD are offering go right up to management levels, so I can only see it as being a good thing.

To be honest, it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things even if you can make management level - and even still it's fatuous to suggest that many can do this - as those drawing higher wages from a non-productive industry are even more of a parasite than the grunts.

All of our national efforts need to be engaged in pursuing production and not consumption, we need to reverse a near lifetime of failed thinking that is the root cause of all our economic woes of today. It worries me to see the same attitude that has done more damage than any other in history still persisting even today.

If mines and "steelworks" were still around would YOU be working down a mine right now?

Was good enough for my Dad and his Dad before him, and if I was on my death bed looking back on my life's work I don't think I could find anything more shameful than a life spent flipping burgers.

If i'd not studied as hard as I did when I was younger, i'd be grateful for a real job like that.
