Well, he obviously didn't hold a purely Right wing view of economics.

And if I wasn't politically angry, I'd be ashamed of myself.

Nice new picture, Leigh.

lots of trades have degrees....

I know a guy that went to school for roofing....

you may think this funny ....but think about roofs of say a school or hospital ...

What about Plumbers that do their trade in say a kidney dialysis clinic

Or heating and air ...for say a hospital or museum where room temp. change room to room...

these jobs are highly technical

Bodecia: Its true though, Eagle, isnt it?

Its the same with A-Levels; maybe its me getting old, but they all seem to have been dumbed down a little.

I don't know worldwise ... Mostly worked in education in the UK, but studied in France as well as UK.

What I have noticed is that a few years ago, people could become teachers with just a certificate and a short period of studying ...

Now, the length and breadth of the courses to become teachers is far more significant and demanding ...

I have noticed a discrepency in A Level and University courses between the UK and France. French courses being of a higher standard than in UK. I can't speak for other countries as I have no experience ... although at first glance courses in Spain also appear of a lower standard than France.

It's true that in UK new A Lecels and AS Levels have been invented in subjects that before would have been covered by a school leavers certificate!!

Thats what Im talking about; A-Levels when I was at school were considered "prestigious". Now, not so much it seems.

I have discussed the educational system here in the US, and its been interesting to learn about. For instance, here in NY State, they have what they call "Regis" High School Diplomas, which are of a higher academic level than none Regis. So, the level of the same qualification varies from State to State, apparently, which I find very odd.

One thing to take into consideration is that when A Levels were considered prestigious not so many people made it to Uni or at least not from such diversified backgrounds ...

Now so many more people make it to Uni, having "just A Levels" might not sound so impressive ... may be hug

A nurse for an example that got their degree in "some" states is not totally accepted in NY ....some have to take more college or training first...

Education varies a fair amount state to state

Exactly.

I am not sure if it is Age Glasses that makes it seem that it is easier these days, or not!

I cannot remember the percentage of students who reached A-Level standard when I was at school, but it was very small.

That could be for many reasons ... One of them being that many parents could not afford to keep several of their children in education so they had to do some sort of "quick" training (if any) and start earning a living.

Not sure how it worked in the past ... but didn't child benefit stop once the child had reached 16? In recent years that was changed to remain in place while the child was still in education including A Levels and AS Levels, at least in UK ...

Social snobbery: one example could be thinking someone is unworthy of respect and going on to feel that it is jolly fine to have a go at them behind the annonimity of a computer screen.

I fail to get this need for some to take their pleasure scoffing at others, whether justified or not, and then cover their asses by saying it was all done in fun.

Just dont get it, and I think those who do it are quite pathetic. Of course, I only mean that "in fun", so mean no offence.roll eyes

Social snobbery?
Cultural differences? IE Different expressions used that have different meanings for different societies?
Different sense of humour?
Different perceptions?
Different way of "ribbing" people?

dunno

I think you are right on the mark Eagle. I won't go into detail why I say that but I know that I am not as understood as I want to be. You have made some very, very good points.teddybear

FYI folks. My above post has nothing to do with the peep you are referring to. It is strictly about the subject of Bodecia's thread.

Now it's Friday night. Why aren't you guys partying...It's been a week of very deep subjects.

Time to get your giggy on....danceline dancing dog elephant dancing boogie cheering
