grizzwald: I live very close to Toronto...it is getting harder and harder for family run farms to compete ...we now see a lot of barns empty but the fields being still used...as someone bought them up for the fields..
between Toronto and New York maybe...But if you go an hour west of Toronto you will find more family farms than corporate

I remember when I was around 17, I started going out with a farmer's son.

After a month or so, he broke it off. I found out some time later that it was because his family wanted him to marry a fellow farmer's daughter so they could join the lands, and I had no "dowry".

How's THAT for snobbery?doh laugh

I have no doubt that they will..The majority of farmers in that area are Mennonite and Amish...Old order Amish...no electrical.. no cars'.. no tractors....Good luck to any corporation that tries to buy out an Amish family...laugh

Yes we have the Amish and the Mennonite as well here ....and many have sold the cows for the veggies instead....they make more money ....less over head and are competing with only the local stores....and why by from the stores when you can get better, fresher, and cheaper than the stores...

They have a lot less over head ...their tractors run on hay...and big families to work the farm.... I like the Amish .....good neighbors

I've been lucky in life ... Ive been able to meet so many dif. ppl... from ppl that would struggle everyday wondering if they will have money enough to get some food ... and some others that would trip around the world in the best hotels and drive the best cars ever...

The more u get to know people...from dif. "social" levels... educational... race...religion ...etc etc....the more u realize that we are not that different in the end... in spite of everything ...

That's why You should ...at least try to...never "tag" people according to what they "have"... We all do somehow..."hispanic" "single mom" "poor" "rich" "lazy" But its a good excercise for our soul to "open up" our eyes and see what's beyond posetions...and "class" ...

It doesn't matter to me at all... I choose by heart ...our wallets have nothing to do with it =)

Yes, of course you are right. Unfortunately, it doesnt happen enough in life that people see beyond the job/car/color/religion.

I do not judge a person for their looks, income, job status, type of job, or anything else. People are who they are, and it's not for me to judge. Having said that, I am not as comfortable around rich people as I am around low/medium income people, and I think it's because rich people have a totally different attitude of privilege and power (think Bill Gates vs a homeless person on the streets, or my rich brother and sister-in-law.) Also, since I'm a churchgoing guy, I'm equally comfortable around church folks and non-churced folks alike.

Hi, Hugger.

Well, although I understand what you are saying and agree to a certain degree, I would have to say that the above sentence is slightly not my way of thinking. Bill Gates, for one, came from nothing, as did many of the world's millionaires. There is a British millionaire called Alan Sugar, who is the boss of several huge companies. He started by selling on a market stall in East End London (the then poor part). So, these guys came from nothing, and did well under their own effort. You would have to say that they must, therefore, know what its like to be poor and struggling too.

cheers
