nomindgames: Bodecia looks like you hit on a topic that is thought of by others too. I totally understand your commentary. Many men I talk to are not as well off as they once were. Most try to hide the situation afraid women will back off if there isn't much $ to be spent. It doesn't matter to me if I meet someone and we get along and I enjoy his company. We can go to the park, watch rented dvd's, even cut out the coupon for the diners-"Breakfast Special. 2 eggs toast and choice of meat $3,99 with coupon". Those who are still doing very well in this economy, I am glad for them. However any who are snobs could be on the street homeless in 2 weeks (yes it has happened). So if a man will only date me if I fill a criteria of a M.A. am making over 40,000, live in a posh home or apt. and havel traveled the world, for them. They would be the loser not me. I met a man one time who had it all in the "jetset" world". He seemed down to earth. I on the 2 nd date, talked about the shelter where I was volunteering on weekends. He was totally turned off and that totally turned me off. Okay enough said here, know where I stand.
Good topic girl.

Thank you very much, nomindgames! I appreciate your comments, and your post.

You are right; the standards or ideals we used to have a decade ago do not necessarily apply now. Things have changed, and we all do what we can.

Nice to meet you.cheers bouquet

TrueBlue1986: Hello,

I can only appeal to your sense of realism here. It may seem a nice idea to organise the entire World, raise their standards to ours - depose every tyrant, educate every savage.

But, how is this possible?

Can we afford to focus upon them when our own house is in such disarray?

Does history not show us what happens to these attempts at a Global Socialist utopia?

And when I go out canvassing for votes, am I to tell workers in Manchester that they have to wait for jobs until Socialism comes to Timbuktu?
I agree ...but doing nothing will get nothing...wait till something better comes along could be never ...

I understand its a long road ...but you have to start somehow someway sometime

Really, I think this is an insult to people who have taken years of hard work to get a degree.
It really is the inverse snobbery I was talking about earlier. If you study and get a degree you are consodered a weirdo by some stratas of society.

Why is it an insult to value a different type of learning from the one that can be offered in this part of the world?

Why do so many people assume that what is given to someone else must have been taken away from you?

dunno

EagleWoman: You must be mis-informed!! Ask to see ALL the private records of all the schools children in UK and please don't forget to also ask to see the secret private records of the Catholic Church ...

If by then you're not shocked enough yet ... look deeply into how mental health patients AND the elderly are looked after and "helped" to get better (in the UK) ... it's not quite to the standards of making necklaces out of human finger bones because they prefer to dress it up with clever words that sound avant-guarde and oh so "looking forward".

As for cival war ... just hold your breath for a short while and you'll be able to take notes while you watch it happening.

Ok, Eagle. So you would presumably leave your child unattended in England as easily as you would in Rwanda? You don't possibly accept that there's a greater chance - note the word chance - of danger in Rwanda over England?

And if your generation had bothered to concern yourself with your own country - instead of placing the interests of every other nation before your own - maybe we could of avoided the civil war. Thank you very much.

plainlyjune: Yes, i pick my friends, not based on money, education or status in society. I like good people as in good in heart. And i can't tolerate anything illegal, so i guess what they do for a living should be legit no matter how simple or complicated.

So I cant tempt you into being a Moll for the CS Underworld then, june?dunno

thumbs up

different type of learning ...

Valuing learning that isn't academic does not take away from academic learning. Both have their purpose.

Focusing on only one creates imbalance. IMO

daisy333: Interesting question. I think you're right - a lot of people probably do look down on people they perceive are 'less than' for whatever reason. Many people simply feel at ease with those they perceive are like themselves, with similar backgrounds, education levels and financial status.

It's definitely easy to underestimate people - or over-estimate them. I know people who barely finished school who are inexplicably street smart and are incredibly bright. I know people with Ph.D's who are completely inept - just can't relate to people. Most truly wealthy people never act like they have money and those with good manners would never talk about it, that's for sure. People are rarely what they seem at face value, that's for sure.

Hi daisy..bouquet

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking about; a formal education, or lack of it does not necessarily maketh the man.

The old adage about "Lots of intelligence; no common sense" still stands tall.

The thing about degrees also is this: these days you can pretty much get a degree from anywhere - the internet, the University of the Sainted Gordon Ramsey, the College of Crochet..roll eyes

When I was a lass, a degree meant something like English/Literature, History, a language or Maths, or similar. These days you can get a degree in whats on TV that evening, if you look hard enough.

When you say "academic learning" I assume you mean universities. Please remember many of the arts have university degrees, including Art proper, music, dancing, theater etc. And many of our most popular stars have taken this path to become true professionals. So perhaps you don't mean this??????? ??????????grin angel cool
