A few people are interested in getting together for dinner this Friday night in Chinatown.

Can anyone think of a good place for a meeting point then we can head off for dinner?

I'm thinking we meet around 6.30/7.00pm to give people time to get home from work and head into town, plus those of us who are heading in from the airport.

Any input would be appreciated thank you cheers

Me too once, in the late 70s the food, just like food, but they bring a bowl of water and a towel to wash your hands, but it cost $70 plus, in those days.

After standing on the sidelines all this time I've decided I would like to come if that's ok. I haven't been on these forums long and don't post much but would like to meeet some new people.
Regarding meet-up, I wonder if Flinders St stations/Young and Jackson's corner (they are opposite each other)is perhaps the best spot to meet. It's only about 5-10 mins walk to China town.
If 30 people are coming, it might be an idea to book ahead. To do this someone would need to peruse a guide such as this (http://chinatownmelbourne.com.au/downloads/chinatown-melbourne_official-guide-2010.pdf) and pick a place and call them.

Ah you posted that while I was typing Serene. If all are happy with that, it's good.

Hi Obscuritan it would be lovely if you could come wine

Your meeting point suggestion sounds like a good idea especially with the night out being at Y & J's on the Saturday night, thank you.

There will probably only be a handful of us going for dinner so thought we could just wing it and do a casual kind of thing?

I expect maybe 50% of those who signed up to be there on the night.

It would be good if those who have cancelled would unsign so as to give a better picture for those who are going or are thinking about it.

There may be some people off site who will come, friends of members, plus some make a spur of the moment decision on the day.

And it's entirely a personal thing as far as looking for a partner on the night .. we are going to be in a social setting so we aren't limited to CS members either if someone catches your eye wink

Ok if it's just a handful no problem. I thought I'd read numbers around 30 on another thread. Yeah winging it would be good as we can stroll along taking in the sights and zero in on a place that looks good, (and smells good - I know some people use their sense of smell to pick restaurants.)

It does seem like eateries prices are going down these days, I forgot to mention, put a cigarette in your mouth and there was a waiter wating to light it, but dont know if they allowed to these days.
