Muammar Gaddafi "a tyrant and madman," as seen in the Western world , made Libya became the richest sovereign country in Africa and completely prepared to introduce a new currency in oil trade with the Islamic gold dinar-and no interests loans. This would mean that the West will no longer be able to buy oil from African countries with speculative money.

kennn: He is responsible for killing 243 passengers and 16 crew members that died on Pam Am 103. People who had loved ones on that flight are commenting that now they feel closure. That's enough for me.

You can talk about oil or banks all you want, but if you give one little thought to the people who died when a bomb was targeted at one particular plane, you might be just a little glad that this monster is done for.[/quote We are all going to have our thoughts, good or bad, about what is happened in Lybia. It is a changing world and at least now the Libian people have a chance at a better life. There is really no place in todays world for the type of leadership he imposed. No one person(family) should have that much power over another human being.

We can't allow a Libyan leader to have control over his population but we let UN get overruled when a US president wants to attack another country? (Bush vs Iraq)

Bombed flight.. 260 ppl dead
WTC .. 2726
Hiroshima.. 90.000-166.000
Nagasaki 60.000 - 80.000
Iraq conflict 102.417 - 601.027

How many civilians is it reasonable to kill in retaliation?

cleirigh006: I agree with you apart from singling out the IRA. United States had vested interests in Irish nationalism, and the IRA were essentially an establsihment founded out from the oppression of Britain. They have the UDA too

Yeah it wasn't about singling out the IRA.. they're just most known and therefore easiest to use for making a point :)

Ah, see ...America is on the verge of bankruptcy because there are so-called national debt over 14 trillion dollars and is unable to pay for the goods mainly imported from other states. Although they have the technology and raw materials and labor, and constantly fighting the last sixty years all over the world, since it did not achieve any gain. All profits went to private corporations.

The United States have already bankrupted in the early seventies , when they were not able to take the goods to pay in golden dollar. Since then the dollar has become tied to oil, and "American" gold after the Second World War that topped out around the world, especially from the defeated Germany, gradually ended up in the Swiss bank, where it now controlled by the Catholic Church . This facility is the largest owner and informal gold dealer in the world...

You're pretty much "on the money" with your ascertains. President Nixon pretty much screwed all of us when he took the USA off the gold standard so he could afford the Vietnam conflict. I wish you weren't right about the 14+trillion USD debt but were not near bankrupt.

Instead of doing what's right to deal with our economic woes, our fools in Wash D.C. will print more money instead of firing the private Federal Reserve and let the government print their own debt-free money for not having to pay any interest.

I agree with you, B.

I don't think his life is worthy of celebration, but rejoice a death I only understand when it is personal and a way of healing.

For what it's worth, my elder relatives used to mourn a birth and rejoice death. In either case it's all about the living dealing with a situation.

I believe corporations are taxed at 30% rate...if not 30%, then 25%.
Those corporations also paid salaries to employees and paid dividends to stockholders (of which many probably would be their employees).

Just a point of clarification.

While i dont celebrate anyones death, he did need to be removed to end the suffering of the people of Libya.
Unfortunately for Gaddafi, he was the architect of his own demise, forgoing the option of leaving the country peacefully.

I imagine that there will be more suffering in store for the people of Libya as the power vaccum left by Gaddafi gets fought over by various factions each with a stake and a desire not to be left out, but none with the experience and knowledge of how to run a country.

There is no justification over any death, civilian or otherwise, in retaliation. Whether it was caused by the strength of a country or one person. Gadaffi did bring wealth and prosperity to his country. One thing he did not do was share it with his people. With most working for about 2 dollars a day and a 40 percent unemployment rate, you have to agree that there had to be change in Lybia. It was his choice for reform to be peaceful or not, he chose the latter. He paid the ultimate price for it. Now all we can hope for is a peaceful transition and a better life for the Lybian people.

That's interesting.

We fear for the future of a vulnerable newborn and a life passed should be rejoiced for the joy a person brought.

Like I said, I totally understand a relief felt in a person's death if they brought personal misery, but to celebrate a death impersonally is to lower oneself.

Some will have celebrated the death of terrorist victims.

I don't wish to join in.

I am more than that.

Boban1: Im not a wizard for money laundering but I do believe that one pays taxes only for income that he shows on paper besides who invented offshore companies and for what purposes ???

I'm no wizard either, but I think it's safe to assume that there are loopholes in the tax system. I suppose it could be considered money laundering, if it weren't legal.

It could be assumed that when industry/companies go offshore, there can be a variety of reasons; tax breaks, avoidance of regulations, EPA, labor costs. All things being equal, I would imagine US employers would probably prefer to use US citizens.

(My opinion only)
